Academics: Pre-Vet/Animal Science Major – The teachers are more than willing to help you, and there are certain fun classes however sometimes the work load can be overbearing and stressful due to all the sciences.

Campus Quality: The Ohio State University is a very special place filled with diversity and tremendous learning opportunities. I have simply loved all of my professors, who are extremely well qualified. The atmosphere is relaxed and enjoyable.

Weather: If it is very cold it makes getting around on campus alot harder, but bearable.

Greek Life: The Greek influence is felt in a relatively small way on OSU campus. Those members are friendly and fit in well with the general student population,

Party Scene: High St – Take a walk down high st any night in the summer and you'll find a party easy...or any of the side streets as well. Easy to get into the party scene and forget school work. But I wouldn't recommend doing so.

Campus Food: Many Options to Choose from – From McDonald's to cheap Chinese, there is always something within walking distance. Adriadico's pizza is AH-mazing and who wouldn't want a burrito the size of your head from La Bomba's after a hard day of classes and studying.

Campus Quality: So Many Options, So Little Time! Academically, Ohio State offers many major and minor options to choose from, including a fantastic exploration program which sets undecided students up to work closely with advisors to explore all majors and decide which would be best for them! Ohio State also has multiple libraries that are open very late on weekdays and some 24/7. They also offer free tutors and learning centers available to all students whenever they need.
Students also have access to a health clinic on campus and have 10 free sessions with a university psychologist if ever needed. There is an excellent campus bus system that can take students anywhere on campus and anywhere in Columbus. There is a never a bored moment for a student who understands the bus system and can get to any club, party, museum and restaurant in Columbus. Students can also be highly involved with campus group or spend their time at the on campus recreational facilities working out, playing intramural sports, or joining a group fitness class!
The most exciting and unique thing about Ohio State comes in autumn quarter: football! Yes, most schools have football, but at Ohio State football games spread an amazing sense of joy and pride throughout the entire campus. On game days, the entire campus is flooded with our school colors from students, alumni, and just plain old fans who come from all over to experience the amazing thrill of being at an Ohio State football game!

Weather: Ohio weather can never make up it's mind. One minute the sun will be out, the next it is hailing! On rainy days a rain coat, rain boots & umbrella are needed but wind can be so strong your umbrella may prove useless! In winter quarter, it was sunny and warm for the first two weeks then we got slammed with icy snow! Snow and wind are the worst, but luckily classes and dining areas are close so it is not too unbearable!

Campus Food: Many Excellent Options – The meal plans and dining options at Ohio State are fantastic. Our meal plans consist of swipes. We have a card with our chosen amount of swipes and extra money that allow it to be used as a debit card as well. One swipe can get you a meal at any of the dining facilities, which include cafe style, buffet style, restaurant and fast food style. All of the food is freshly prepared and have many healthy options. Every dining area offers different options. The options can get old sometimes, however, if you are stuck on one side of campus and the weather is too bad to walk to the other side for different options. There are also grocery store type places that swipes can be used to buy groceries, like drinks, fruit, bread, cereal, etc. Overall, the dining options at Ohio State are very satisfying.

Campus Housing: Very Hit or Miss – There are a lot of different dorms and they are divided into North, South, and West campus. South campus seems to be where most of the activity is happening due to the number of dorms there are on south and it's proximity to restaurants, bars, parties, etc. North campus is a little more quite and farther from the center of activity but the dorms there are just a good. The consensus for the west campus towers is a unenthusiastic shrug. They are a 15 minute walk to the good dining halls on south and even farther from High street. I lived in Mack hall on south an absolutely loved it, its closest to all the good south campus dining halls and its pretty small so you definitely get to know the people in your building well. It's quieter than say Smith or Steeb but people the students there seems a lot more friendly that south campus dorms like Baker east and west or Canfield.

Campus Quality: Tuition Money at Work – In recent years the school has been pouring a ton of money into its facilities. Everything feels like it was build in the last ten years. The RPAC is easily the most impressive gym you'll find. Same can be said about the Thompson Library.

Weather: I'm going into Atmospheric Science so for the most part I enjoy the weather. It snows in the winter(not as bad as Cleveland) but the first ten days I was here it rained 7/10 days.

Transportation: There is a bus system that goes around the campus and the fee is included in your tuition and there's a local bus system (RTA) which you can also access for free which goes around Columbus.

Off-Campus Dining: The major street by the campus is high street which has a multitude of places to eat. There are places that serve pizza, chicken, sandwiches, breakfast, basically what ever you want to eat they have.

5 College Freshman

Athletics: GO BUCKS! If you can't find school spirit at this school then you won't find it anywhere. Sports at this school are huge and tickets for students are very affordable.

Off-Campus Housing: Housing Is Difficult – Don't even bother looking for off campus housing if it's past December. There's plenty of housing close to campus if you can get to it a year ahead.

Transportation: CABS Busses – The CABS (Campus Area Bus Service) is a very effective mode of travel both on campus campus and off.

1 College Freshman

Parking: Parking is awful. No spots within a 25 minute walk.

4 College Student

Transportation: Excellent Bus System – Constant stream of COTA buses running through campus, and students get a free pass to ride them whenever they need to.

3 College Student

Drug Safety: Better Than Some Places, but It Is Still College – A lot of alcohol use, though not much more than most other colleges, as far as I can tell. Very few hard-core drugs, though you do sometimes see the lighter stuff.

4 College Student

Technology: Prett Good Overall – Crowded at times, but most people have their own, so it's not a major problem.

3 College Sophomore

Transportation: I think the transportation is convenient and cost efficient. I have my car on campus but I have to park it 7 miles away. There is a COTA bus that stops there so I can get to my car and back to the dorm quite easily.

3 College Sophomore

Administration: I really haven't been there long enough to know about their strictness policies. My dorm, roommates, a friends are all pretty decent people.

3 College Sophomore

Transportation: I have to cross from the west side to main campus for one class every day. Buses are great, but they are normally crowded when the weather is bad and I have to wait for the next one. Sometimes this takes 30mins just waiting for a bus, which takes away from studying or may cause me to be late for my next class. As a result, I find myself walking the 12-15 mins instead of waiting (sometimes twice that) for a bus. I suggest placing more CABS signs up at bus stops so students know how long that wait is. I like those signs, and would like to see working ones at every bus stop.

Scholarships: Don't Underestimate Any Scholarship! I ended up getting a full ride to The Ohio State University. Don't ever let any scholarship slip through the cracks. Apply to as many as you can, even if it is being presented through a group you are not affiliated with. There are a lot of minority scholarships out there that are actually not only for minorities, they're also for those who are just exposed to other cultures and can provide a sense of diversity to the university. DEADLINES are enforced. Be sure to get your scholarships done on time and earlier if possible. It's a huge university, tons of people are applying for the same scholarship, if done on a rolling basis your chances get slimmer the later you turn it in. (SOME SCHOLARSHIPS ARE LIKE THIS!) Also, scour the OSU website for scholarships. There are TONS out there that sometimes only one or two students apply for just because it's not being advertised as publicly.

There is a reason the Buckeye Nation is considered to be so devoted; an overwhelming love for OSU is evident in student responses, and in the loyalty of alumni to their alma mater. Each person has his or her own reasons for loving the University, and there are quite a few of them. Some students feel that the academics are top-notch and have found exactly the programs they wanted; others lean toward the athletic success of the Buckeye teams, while some just feel that the friendships and bonds they have made are enough to make their tenure at OSU worthwhile. At any rate, everyone can agree that being a Buckeye creates a special bond between you and nearly 50,000 other students, which you will carry with you for the rest of your life.

Once you get past the sheer size of the University, it will really become a second home. After only a quarter of classes, you won't be able to cross the Oval without seeing someone you know. Ohio State is truly the smallest large university you will find. The people are known for their friendly attitudes, and alumni are scattered across the nation. If you choose to go to OSU, you're choosing a school with a name that's well known, both in the workplace and in the college community. Few students ever regret their time at Ohio State, and most consider their college experience to be among the best offered in the Big Ten and the country.
