Parking: Not a Huge Car School – You don't really need a car for main campus. I have heard from friends that west campus is a hard parking place.

Academics: Profs Help Push Towards Undergrad Thesis – A few of the professors here at OSU have really helped push me towards furthering my academic career by pursuing an Undergrad Research Thesis. They have helped me enroll as a Mentor for the Peer Assisted Student Support program, I am now the Vice President of the Psychology Club, and I have begun meeting with my Adviser for my Research Thesis. They have supported my journey and have introduced me to other programs that will help set me apart from other students applying to Grad School. My professor has encouraged me to join SURI (Summer Undergrad Research Institute) in Columbus, OH to network with other research students and to form a support group. The curriculum for Psychology is tough, especially with the Quarter to Semester conversion, but the professors are always really helpful to guide the students to where they need to go. The academic advisers are not as helpful, but the professors are always there.

Off-Campus Dining: Pretty Good Food – There a lot of different places off campus that are easily accessible to students. They range in cuisine from fast food to pizza to chinese to indian to steak houses, etc. There are also a lot of places that are willing to deliver to students as well.

Diversity: Lots of Heterosexual White Students – There are a lot of different races and religions represented at OSU but it predominately white. The university tries to make itself seem very diverse but in reality, its not. it seems like a good majority of students are not open to different politcal views, religions, sexual identities, or sexual orientations.

Local Area: Big City – The campus is located just north of Downtown Columbus, with so much to do that is close to campus one would never get bored. There is gallery hop in the short north, wonderful restaurants and restaurant week (3 course meals for $15-25), and local art life and summer festivals. No professionals sports teams except hockey but a minor league baseball team and of course OSU football.

Campus Food: Typical, Lots of Options – The places around campus are good always a dining facility close to classes no matter where you are on campus. After freshman year most people don't buy the dining plan so one is not bad.

Drug Safety: Drinking Is Common – Most people at OSU do partake in drinking the campus is located next to high street where many bars are across the street.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: Lots of Space – Campus is beautiful. There are plenty of places to study or hang out with friends.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: Athletics are amazing at Ohio State. The varsity teams here are some of the best in the nation. Also, we have access to some of the best training facilities and a variety of club and intramural sports.

Greek Life: Coming Back Strong – More people at OSU need to join Greek life-while it is not essential because OSU is such a big school and there is always so much going on, it enhances the experience so much.

Campus Food: Lots of Options! There is everything from burgers to hummus and pita. Sometimes it is hard to find veggie options, but there are a lot available. The fast food place I work at serves Veggie burgers and subs.
Off campus is where the real selection is. High street is full of mediterranean, istanbul, pizza, sandwiches, burgers, subs, mexican, italian, breakfast, indian, cajun, donuts, you name it!
The meal plan will get slightly more expensive with the semester 'Block' plan conversion. So it'll be about $7-10 for one block/swipe.
Food prices overall are $5.50 or more for a meal, sides aren't that expensive at all.

Diversity: I attend an Ohio State regional campus at Mansfield, Oh. Here there are approximately 1600 undergrad students. Majority are white, however, there are several student ran organizations that promotes diversity. These groups consist of minority students and the support for these groups is pretty well received.

Off-Campus Housing: Apartments Are Moderately Priced – Many of the apartments are available for students who do not get into the dorms. Many students stick to the outskirts of the campus. Ohio State University is such a huge campus that the buses make it easy to move around so it's easy to find an affordable apartment.

Technology: Computer Lab Is Always Available – The computer labs are always open at Ohio State University. Many of the students are able to go there at any time and work on assignments and lab work.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: Food Is Good – There are many places to eat at Ohio State University. Eating at the dining halls can be some of the same food, but there are so many different eateries that you can get pizza, wings, noodles and regular McDonalds all within walking distance.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: Diverse Ethnicity – The atmosphere on campus caters to all different types. You can stay in your dorm, go to the library to socialize, go to different campuses to explore the different ideas around the entire area.

Local Area: Columbus Rocks – There is something for everyone in Columbus. Entertainment, restaurants, shopping, not to mention a multitude of options for internships. And the city bus system is free for students so it easy to get around.

Weather: Rain Oh Rain – Cold in the winter, however the sidewalks are always cleared off. Fall and spring is lovely. It is wonderful to just sit/lay out somewhere o campus, and there are plenty of places to do so. When it rains, there tends to be streams all over the place.

Majors: Increasingly Competitive – The admission process was simple and easy; I had no issues with it. I do know that each incoming class continues to be a little better than the next, in terms of grades and test scores, making the process more competitive. However, this is a good thing for the school because it increases the standards. A new admission process is used for the Honors and Scholars program which should be able to select the best candidates.

4 College Freshman

Majors: Wide Variety of Options – I am in the International Studies program and there are so many course options to choose from. The department is continually finding new programs and adding courses that are current with the times and will provide the most help for its students. Most of the professors have had actual experience in the area they are teaching and are able to help students with career options.

Campus Food: Campus dining at OSU is pretty good, and getting better!

Weather: Ohio has bothersome weather patterns. If it's raining when you go to your 0830 class, it will probably be snowing when you head to lunch. The weather changes constantly in Ohio. Residents have to expect extreme heat and humidity in the spring and summer months, and be ready for extreme cold in the winter months.

Scholarships: A Little Slow – OSU is a large and inflexible bureaucracy, and it's financial aid notifications reflect that. I received a small amount of money for my academics and a slightly larger amount from the School of Music in a talent scholarship, but I did not know about these until a few days before I graduated. This was a little frustrating. I have heard that the OSU School of Music has lost a few good DMA students (and potential TA's) due to the slow response times from the OSU financial aid office.

Athletics: Athletics at The Ohio State University are very well attended and well supported. The facilities are state-of-the-art and constantly maintained and added to. The RPAC, the student physical activity facility, is unparalleled by other facilities on other college campuses.

There is a reason the Buckeye Nation is considered to be so devoted; an overwhelming love for OSU is evident in student responses, and in the loyalty of alumni to their alma mater. Each person has his or her own reasons for loving the University, and there are quite a few of them. Some students feel that the academics are top-notch and have found exactly the programs they wanted; others lean toward the athletic success of the Buckeye teams, while some just feel that the friendships and bonds they have made are enough to make their tenure at OSU worthwhile. At any rate, everyone can agree that being a Buckeye creates a special bond between you and nearly 50,000 other students, which you will carry with you for the rest of your life.

Once you get past the sheer size of the University, it will really become a second home. After only a quarter of classes, you won't be able to cross the Oval without seeing someone you know. Ohio State is truly the smallest large university you will find. The people are known for their friendly attitudes, and alumni are scattered across the nation. If you choose to go to OSU, you're choosing a school with a name that's well known, both in the workplace and in the college community. Few students ever regret their time at Ohio State, and most consider their college experience to be among the best offered in the Big Ten and the country.
