Academic Flexibility: Professors are willing to help out if you don't understand what's going on. They aren't going to let you slack off, but they will be understanding of personal problems if they get in the way of schoolwork. Although I have learning disabilities, I have had no problems at Oakton. Professors have been very understanding and willing to help me, knowing that I do my best and work hard. I've been able to choose courses that challenge me to improve and to learn how I learn, without overwhelming me. There is enough flexibility for students to find a path that both is achievable for them and challenges them to meet their potential.

Online Courses: Online courses won't teach you as much. If you have the discipline to keep up with the work, they are a good way to fit required courses into your schedule. I would recommend in person classes for areas that apply to your major or that you are more interested in learning more about though.

Overall Experience: Oakton is a community college, so a major value of the degree is in transferring your credits elsewhere and saving money. An associate degree on its own isn't going to give you too much of an edge, but Oakton has a good reputation and is a very solid start.

Overall Experience: Overall, the courses are very informative. Most professors are great teachers and very helpful. There is a wide variety of courses, including several foreign languages. Most classes are lectures. Class sizes are pretty small for college -- the most students I've had in a class has been about 30, and in some of the less-taken classes there can be fewer than 10.

Overall Experience: Before Oakton Community College , I was a lost soul counting down the days, hours, and seconds until I graduated my high school. Oakton helped cure my damaged self esteem from the choral teacher and other teachers at my high school. I was encouraged to follow my dreams , and take chances in order to achieve my dreams. Many members of the faculty that I worked for and with are my life long friends. Oakton is a place for growth and a place to reinvent yourself. Oakton has many scholarships and opportunities to get involved. The students here are diverse and are very accepting. It is going to be hard for me to leave this place , because of all the positive things Oakton has to offer.

Overall Experience: so far all of my teachers have givien me a good quality education from teaching the class giving clear information to helping us with anything we needed to help pass the class. for example my english 1060 teacher last semester he helped are whole class with anything we needed like essays we all had and would help us were so we would get nothing but the best

Overall Experience: me beginning the new step to the world of college is great i have met tons of people that have impacted my college experience in a positive way and i'm learning a lot and growing more and more everyday

Academic Flexibility: I found the classes to be flexible. I usually was able to find classes that fit my schedule, as long as I wasn't picking them out last minute. I don't think there are too many weekend classes, I took mostly weekday classes. Signing up for science classes can be a hassle because they fill up quickly. I had to wake up early in the morning on the first day we could pick out classes just so that I can reserve a spot in a class that I wanted.

Online Courses: I have taken a few online classes and have enjoyed them. The online classes that I have taken have been electives that I took for fun. If I was taking a more important class that I needed (such as English) I would prefer to do that in person. The workload was reasonable and registration was easy. I barely talked to my professors but we did have a few online discussions. I thought it was user-friendly technology, but an older person who doesn't have as much experience online may struggle.

Overall Experience: This school is a community college so it is valuable to students because it saves them money. I don't think getting a degree from here is very valuable if you're trying to find a job right after graduating. Almost all students plan to transfer to another college or university after to further their education. We have a good career center, but it can use improvements. My counselor is on campus only a few times a week making it hard to see her sometimes. I haven't heard of any internship opportunities.

Overall Experience: The teachers that I have had have been qualified and very knowledgeable. Class sizes are usually full with around 25 students. This can make it hard to get one-on-one time with the teacher. I think your experience with them depends on how much effort you put into your work and whether you go see them if you need help. Most classes are lectured, which I don't mind.

Academic Experience: One of the main reasons I decided to go to Oakton was because I was undecided about my major. I have changed it at least three times. One of the benefits of Oakton was that I was able to take a different variety of classes in order to decide on what I wanted to do without having to pay too much. I was also able to take classes that I was interested in.

Overall Experience: I've enjoyed my experience at Oakton Community College (Des Plaines campus). Most professors that I have had have been friendly and care about their students. Teachers go the extra mile to make sure their students are successful as long as you're willing to work hard. My favorite part about this school is that the they surprises us with treats throughout the semester. In the past, we've had deep fried oreos, snow cones, coffee, and customized key chains for free. The school also provides many useful resources such as free tutoring and career counseling/advice. If I could do it all over again I would because I received a great education for a good price.
