3 College Sophomore

Administration: Usually administration here is fairly lenient on most policies, however two policies in particular they are very strict with. Guests visiting the residence halls, and on-campus parties and drinking. These two topics they seem to go a little bit overboard with being strict and enforcing policy.

3 College Freshman

Administration: I believe that Oakland has a very sound administration, except for the fact that the parking and problems in the parking lots (i.e. theft of items in cars).

4 College Junior

Administration: OU is supposed to be a drug and alcohol free campus. My friends who live on campus said they can have a lot of visitation in the dorms and from what I've heard it seems pretty lenient. You WILL be punished and receive a 0.0 in a class if you are caught cheating/plagiarizing/whatever. OU is great about new organizations and providing funding for the orgs. We have our own Quidditch team!! And a lot of clubs hold movie nights and midterm/final exam review sessions with free food and pop! The only demonstration I am not fond of on campus is the "Genocide" demonstration where an external group travels to different universities throughout Michigan with a huge sign filled with pictures of abortion and comparing it to genocide. Apparently a different university refused to let them on campus and they got sued by the group. The group won. So no wonder OU lets them on campus.

4 College Freshman

Administration: I think it's great that they allow protests even if they're ones that I don't agree with.

4 College Freshman

Administration: So far, I've had a great experience. It's mostly an "it's up to you how this turns out" type of thing - though obviously disrespect is not taken well.

At Oakland University, students have few restrictions. The restrictions that are imposed are meant to protect the students' safety. Drugs, underage drinking, and fighting are not tolerated. Nightwatch is imposed after 8 p.m. This means that the doors are automatically locked; you may only enter through the main entrance, and you must present your ID to the Nightwatch personnel. RAs are on each floor of every dorm to help you with any problems you may have, and to enforce the rules and restrictions of the dorms. How much is enforced depends on the RA, though.

After 10:30 p.m., quiet hours are imposed on the dorms during the week. This means no loud music or parties, mainly to help students with early classes get enough sleep and therefore get better grades. Attendance policies have also been put into effect in most classes. Some professors will give you a certain amount of absences that will be overlooked and not affect your grade. Overall, students are left alone to do what they want, as long as it does not break any of Oakland's rules.
