Athletics: Go Demons! Sports are a large part of student life, but studies are even larger.

Off-Campus Housing: It's better to live off campus because it's usually cheaper than on campus, but finding an opening can be difficult.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: For a small town, Natchitoches has an okay variety of restaurants.

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: There's usually always a great party going on.

3 College Freshman

Administration: They are super strict on some things, but pretty lenient on others.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I got what I needed, but it took a lot of effort to get it.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: I mean, the food might not be the best, ut they try to accomodate everyone by giving us options.

Off-Campus Housing: I do not live off-campus. Students under the age of 21 are not permitted to live off campus unless they meet certain requirements set by the school. I have a few friends that do live off campus and their apartments are right outside of the campus gates. They look like pretty small rooms. I do not know much more about housing outside of campus.

Off-Campus Dining: The off-campus dining has a varriety of options. There's the usual fast food locations, McDonalds, Burger King, and Dairy Queen to name a few. There are also cute and very popular small town dining places that are a must to visit. There's the famous Lasyone's and Magee's that are known for their Natchitoches meat pies. There's Nicky's known for their great Mexican cuisine. There's also Mama's Papa's restaurant that are fun to eat at in Historic Natchitoches, known for their grill and their oysters.

Party Scene: I have heard from many people that there are many parties that are thrown by the Greek fraternities and Sororities. I do not party or have I been invited, so I don't really know about that.

Administration: The administration is pretty strict, but it all depends on who you interact with. Some teachers are very strict with attendance and some are very lax. All of my teachers have taken attendance before every class. The only time teachers did not take attendance was when they would cancel classes.

There are restrictions on allowing visitors on campus over night, but allowing people into your dorm is pretty easy. Many students bring friends over and only need to inform the school of visitors if they plan to stay past 11pm and then you need all dormmates to agree and sign saying that they are okay with the visitor staying.

Scholarships: My financial aid experience was scary for me. I had most of my school paid for, but with a week until I was supposed to move into the dorms, I didn't have enough money. I took out a student loan, and almost instantly, I was awarded another scholarship! I was so scared that I would have this student loan that I didn't need follow me. Thankfully, I was able to cancel the loan, and my school this year was paid for completely, with a good amount of excess to help me get through the semesters!

Campus Food: I mostly eat at Iberville, so I've seen the ins and outs of it. Iberville can be good if you go on the right night. There is always an option of salads, soups, hamburgers, pizza, and subway style sandwiches. There is always a "Classics" section that usually has homemade style meals to serve daily. The food there can be very good, but towards the end of the year, the options seem to be very small and make students sad.

Campus Housing: It's really great being able to walk to any class on campus within 20 minutes. The walls are pretty thin so having a dancer live above you for nine months can be pretty loud. The rooms are cute, but all the beige really gets boring. It's nice having a washer and dryer on every floor, but one stacked on the other can be hard on people who have a hard time reaching high places. Overall, campus housing is cool.

Party Scene: There are some parties I hear about but not enough to where I would call it a party campus

Campus Food: The food is sometimes really good, but most of the time it is flavorless or its the same food served multiple times a week. They also use leftover dinner items for lunch the next day which is pretty gross. I like vics sometimes, but the employees are pretty rude and don't seem to care about your business. Overall, it could be worse, but it is not bad enough for me to stop buying a meal plan.

Campus Housing: I like being close to classes and the cafeteria. The Cafeteria is open almost everyday, even on holidays, which is nice. The rooms could be smaller, more rundown, and generally worse than they are. I want to continue living on campus if I can help it. My only complaint is that it is very expensive, especially considering the lack of wifi. This is the reason why I need this scholarship. The only thing I am currently paying for is my housing.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: There is Hana's, fast-food, Chili's, and a few other slightly higher in cost restaurants. I prefer to just eat in my dorm.

College Sophomore

Administration: I haven't had much to do with administration, and we just got a new President so things are still in the process of shifting slightly.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: You get your money, but it might take a bit of work and hassling to get it. Make sure that if you need to make additional loans during the semester, you document it in blood that you will get it and it won't be added to the next semester.

College Sophomore

Party Scene: I am not a night scene person, so I honestly can not rate this.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Food: Food on campus is normally edible, occasionally good, and less commonly unbearable. There is a small variety, but not much of one. Being a vegetarian on campus can be difficult as there are very few options available. The worse part is the price. Even with Demon Dollars, food seems a little expensive.

Campus Housing: Living on campus is alright, not good or bad. The dorms are decent and within walking distance from even the furthest on campus class, not to mention Smoothie King and Brookshire's. University Columns is good for people who A)like having their own room and B) like to cook on occasion. The storage in the kitchen is lacking a bit, but overall it's not bad. Leasing is likely the worse part of living on campus whether it is University Columns or University Place. It is difficult to get everyone in the office on the same page so there is some incorrect information given that makes leasing a very difficult problem. I almost couldn't get a dorm due to this problem. However, maintenance is quick and dorms are okay, especially considering they are dorms.

Scholarships: Easy to get financial aid.

Before you come to NSU, the first thing you should do is figure out how to pronounce "Natchitoches," the name of the city in which the University is located (for the record, it's "Nack-i-tish"). After that, enjoy all that the University has to offer, including good academics, stellar school spirit, and a historic atmosphere in the oldest permanent settlement in the Louisiana Purchase. Some of the other assets of the school include its diversity, active Greek life, and activities both on and off campus.

If you are looking for a campus with rampant public transportation, then NSU might not be the school for you. The best way to get around would be by car or by foot. Also, the campus is a dry campus, which means it's alcohol-free. Other complaints from students include the cafeteria food, building hours, and the fact that it's mostly a commuter campus (with around 80 percent of undergrads living off campus).
