3 College Freshman

Party Scene: There are some parties I hear about but not enough to where I would call it a party campus

Campus Food: The food is sometimes really good, but most of the time it is flavorless or its the same food served multiple times a week. They also use leftover dinner items for lunch the next day which is pretty gross. I like vics sometimes, but the employees are pretty rude and don't seem to care about your business. Overall, it could be worse, but it is not bad enough for me to stop buying a meal plan.

Campus Housing: I like being close to classes and the cafeteria. The Cafeteria is open almost everyday, even on holidays, which is nice. The rooms could be smaller, more rundown, and generally worse than they are. I want to continue living on campus if I can help it. My only complaint is that it is very expensive, especially considering the lack of wifi. This is the reason why I need this scholarship. The only thing I am currently paying for is my housing.

Off-Campus Dining: There is Hana's, fast-food, Chili's, and a few other slightly higher in cost restaurants. I prefer to just eat in my dorm.

College Sophomore

Administration: I haven't had much to do with administration, and we just got a new President so things are still in the process of shifting slightly.

Scholarships: You get your money, but it might take a bit of work and hassling to get it. Make sure that if you need to make additional loans during the semester, you document it in blood that you will get it and it won't be added to the next semester.

College Sophomore

Party Scene: I am not a night scene person, so I honestly can not rate this.

Campus Food: Food on campus is normally edible, occasionally good, and less commonly unbearable. There is a small variety, but not much of one. Being a vegetarian on campus can be difficult as there are very few options available. The worse part is the price. Even with Demon Dollars, food seems a little expensive.

Campus Housing: Living on campus is alright, not good or bad. The dorms are decent and within walking distance from even the furthest on campus class, not to mention Smoothie King and Brookshire's. University Columns is good for people who A)like having their own room and B) like to cook on occasion. The storage in the kitchen is lacking a bit, but overall it's not bad. Leasing is likely the worse part of living on campus whether it is University Columns or University Place. It is difficult to get everyone in the office on the same page so there is some incorrect information given that makes leasing a very difficult problem. I almost couldn't get a dorm due to this problem. However, maintenance is quick and dorms are okay, especially considering they are dorms.

Party Scene: The bars and club are fairly close and can be walked to from campus.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: Some places that are close are cheaper but don't have alot of amenities while the places down the road are a but higher but include kitchenettes, furniture, and needed amenities.

3 College Junior

Party Scene: The main parties are fraternity/sorority based. There are also parties at The Body, the student club off campus.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: Dining off-campus is the best. There are many restaurants around town, from chain restaurants to local eateries that give you that home-y, southern feel. Most of the restaurants are well within normal pricing, and many offer student discounts.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: I lived on campus for two semesters. Most students are required to live on campus for 3 years, unless they reside with family or get approved for off-campus housing. There are many apartments around campus, as well as houses available for rent.

Administration: NSU has a strict 'no alcohol' policy. Except for football tailgating, the campus is dry. I believe it helps because students have to go out of their way to have any alcohol.

Local Area: Life in Natchitoches is the best. Being the oldest town in the Louisiana Purchase, Natchitoches is filled with and amazing history and rich culture. There's always a festival on the Cane River, and at Christmastime, the entire town is lit up for the famous City of Lights fireworks show.

Health & Safety: On campus security is decent. However, the cops spend more time writing parking tickets than anything.

Campus Housing: Living on campus is merely okay. The apartments on campus are extremely overpriced, so scholarships are pretty much a must if you plan to live in them.

Athletics: Athletics are everything at NSU. From basketball to the major football game against Stephen F. Austin, sports are a major event. Even if you aren't in sports, the school gets everyone involved.

Campus Housing: Northwestern has a main campus, which is in Natchitoches, LA. I attend nursing school in Shreveport and we do not get the perks of campus meal plans or housing.

4 College Junior

Guys & Girls: I attend nursing school therefore, there are many more girls than guys on campus. Once you have made it into clinical, purple scrubs are all you see and there is no such thing as a social life...you eat, breath, and barely sleep all things nursing.

Before you come to NSU, the first thing you should do is figure out how to pronounce "Natchitoches," the name of the city in which the University is located (for the record, it's "Nack-i-tish"). After that, enjoy all that the University has to offer, including good academics, stellar school spirit, and a historic atmosphere in the oldest permanent settlement in the Louisiana Purchase. Some of the other assets of the school include its diversity, active Greek life, and activities both on and off campus.

If you are looking for a campus with rampant public transportation, then NSU might not be the school for you. The best way to get around would be by car or by foot. Also, the campus is a dry campus, which means it's alcohol-free. Other complaints from students include the cafeteria food, building hours, and the fact that it's mostly a commuter campus (with around 80 percent of undergrads living off campus).
