I am currently a freshman at Northwest and have loved it so far. I am involved in Sigma Society, a women's service organization with a strong emphasis on sisterhood. It is similar to a sorority but we aren't affiliated with Greek life. We still participate in Homecoming and other activities that greeks do we just aren't nationally recognized so our dues are a lot cheaper. I am also involved in Dance Company and had so much fun it so far. One thing I've noticed in my time here so far is that as long as you get involved you tend to have a really great experience here. We have over 150 student organizations here so there really is something for everyone, and if you don't find and organization that you like you can even start your own!

As a freshman, I was worried about attending college and not being connected to anyone on campus. NWMSU does a fantastic job at getting students involved - both inside and outside of the classroom. The professors at NWMSU exceeded all of my expectations. They all know my name, my academic achievements in their class, and my personality. It is not difficult to get to know the professors because of their open door policy and office hours where students may enter at any time to discuss the class, or anything else! NWMSU's Residential Life does a fantastic job at making college feel like home, and by including all residents. The Student Activities Center provides students once-in-a-lifetime opportunities by holding concerts and inviting famous speakers to campus.

Northwest Missouri State University is a beautiful campus! The trees, grass, and open air really provide to the calmness of the community. There are many things to do on this campus and many groups to be involved with, including sports, arts, music, religious organizations, sexual identity groups, ethnic groups, and so much more! NWMSU gives each student the opportunity to feel welcome. The athletic centers are clean, simple, and enjoyable. Music is always playing, so if you're a heavy breather like me, it's much less awkward! The Student Union and the Station (both food places and popular hang outs on campus) are well equipped with great food, great drinks, helpful staff, and lounging/studying areas. The library is a fantastic place to study in a calm, studious area. The events on campus as well as the traditions we hold are great! It is fun to know the history of our university through events such as "Walk Out Day," where enough students in the past "walked out" of their classes the day before Homecoming, that administration chose to give that day off to all students! Northwest really is a home away from home.
