Health & Safety: There are many places on campus where you can push a button if you feel unsafe and public safety will come. Public safety is always seen patrolling around and usually responds very fast to calls and issues. The only problem is the sexual assaults that happen on campus that are NEVER talked about. It's a huge problem and is a huge reason why I do not have FULL respect for Northern. So many people are victimized and assaulted, but usually it happens by students on sports teams or who play a "large part" in Northern's activities, so they get off the hook. Assaults are overlooked every day and that is an issue that needs to be taken care of.

Overall Experience: All of the professors in any class you take are generally very interested and passionate about the topic they are teaching. Specifically in the criminal justice department, every single professor has been in the field of criminal justice so it is easy for them to relate the topics in the classroom to the real world. They give real life examples and tell stories that make an impact on the students learning. The facilities are new and clean and well kept up. Class sizes vary, but usually when it comes to classes in your major, anything past an intro class has 25 to 30 people so the teachers remember your name and take the time to get to know students individually.

Overall Experience: The value of a Criminal Justice degree at Northern is high because it is one of the known majors at this school. Internships are easy to acquire if you do your part to get good grades and GET INVOLVED. The career center is helpful from what I have heard, and offers workshops and career fairs often to improve skills and knowledge of careers.

Campus Housing: The only negative thing to be said about campus housing is the expense (like any other college). Living in a 12x12 room with another person is not worth paying $1,000 a month for, but it is not just Northern that is this expensive. Most colleges are insanely expensive to live in the dorms. The good things definitely outweigh the bad though. It costs nothing to do laundry. Each building is only 3 stories, so not tons of stairs to climb. The newer dorms have elevators and nice lobbies. RA's really care about their residents and strongly encourage them to get involved and not sit in their rooms. The deskies are wonderful and there are convenient times. Meeting new people is not a hard thing to do. Security is up to date. Wifi is usually fine.

Greek Life: I do not know many people involved in Greek life on campus. There are not many people involved in it. We are a small campus, with a small number of people to be involved in the first place. People who are in Greek life seem to have a lot more drama in their life, and a lot less free time.

Athletics: Hockey is the largest/most cared for varsity sport at Northern. Friday and Saturdays consist of getting ready for the Hockey games at 7 each night. There are many football players, always wearing their sweats or backpacks around campus. Many people you walk by on the way to class have some kind of athletic Northern apparel on. Swim and Dive is a large part of Northern's campus too, although less people are fans of it, many student participate in it, and they are wonderful. Intramural sports are highly encouraged, with signs and posters all over campus telling students to sign up. The Physical Educational Instructional Facility is a place that welcomes athletes and non-athletes of all kinds.

Overall Experience: Some classes are being cut and its hard to get into ones that are not cut as a sophomore. Other than the classes being cut, Northern does pretty well at helping students do what they need to do to be successful. The staff is down to Earth, relatable, friendly, and willing to help. Sometimes I question Northern's budgeting decisions. We have some of the cheapest tuition in the state, but I know that NMU is still skating around some situations so they do not have to spend in other areas. In my opinion, the students are the number one priority when it comes to funding, but sometimes this school does not make me feel like I am the priority. The campus is beautiful. The buildings are clean and up to date. The dorms are nice and the food services are pretty good.

Health & Safety: Everyone looks out for each other for the most part.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: NMU is a great place to be happy and achieve your dreams. I love how outdoorsy and down to earth everyone is. From studying in the library to camping out with your dorm mates in the woods.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: You can go to the Hedgcock building to get all the information you need on careers and internships.

5 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: It was a great experience and great way to make friends.

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: We only have a few. We are not big in the greek life area.

Athletics: Everyone comes together to cheer on their favorite teams here at NMU!

Overall Experience: I love how friendly everyone is here at NMU. i also love how all the out door activites there are to do here.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I live in Halverson, on the second floor. I don't like that there is no elevator in either of the four resident halls connected to the marketplace. There should be an elevator to make moving in and out easier at the beginning and end of the year. The laundry room in Fantasia is horrible. The washers ruin clothes. The dryers are always broken. The furniture in Halverson is poor. The bathrooms need to be re-modeled and cleaned. The cabinets are rusting and it looks disgusting. I liked Van Antwerp, Hunt, Magers, and Meyland better. The looked like nice rooms, almost like a hotel. Better lighting and space.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: I've never been in a frat or sorority so I wouldn't know

3 College Freshman

Athletics: I have not worked out at the PEIF but I heard that it is not a fun place. There are not enough equipment for people to use.

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: It's far from home so I get homesick. The people are nice. The Payne/Halverson and Gant/Spalding halls should be re-done. It does not look like someplace that kids would want to live in. The food is not that great, needs better variety and appealing food. Snow is not really plowed on walkways and parking lots. There should be a bus service that takes kids to Walmart, Target, the PEIF or the mall.

5 College Junior

Academics: Academics at NMU are pretty awesome. Even if a class is hard and overwhelming, professors are usually pretty eager to help. There is also free tutoring for the entire campus and a writing center that helps any student with any writing assignment. Northern has a pretty fair curriculum too. Their academic probation, suspensions, etc. are pretty fair and the NMU will guide you to getting back on track with your grades.

3 College Junior

Party Scene: There are bars for students to go to and there is a party scene at Northern. Northern's parties are not as wild as other universities in Michigan, but can be just as fun
