4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Everyone is so friendly and always willing to help no matter what type of situation you are in.

2 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: There were only a few things I liked about NMU. The people are very friendly and class room size are small so its easy to get the teachers attention. However, there are some issues I faced. First of all, the weather is a problem. If you're not used to the cold, it can be really difficult. NMU lacks diversity, even though you would find a few number of international students. They are mostly exchange students and if you're lucky you would find at least one person to get along with. The food is terrible so its best to cook by yourself. The place is the middle of nowhere and if you're an outdoorsy person who loves hiking and skiing, this is definitely the place for you. Overall, I wouldn't attend this school if I had the chance to do it all over.

Overall Experience: Northern isn't really anything special. It has great classes and a nice campus but the learning is basic and I felt like I was still in highschool.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I will be entering my freshman year this year. Since I made my decision to attend NMU, they entire experience has been amazing from orientation to working with financial aid staff, my counselor, and meeting professors. I cannot wait to start classes. I am so excited for all I am going to learn will arrending NMU! I know this will be exactly the education I need to become a well prepared thorasic surgeon!

4 College Senior

Overall Experience: It is a small school but that just means that you get more individual attention from the staff and you also get to form a closer group of friends as you'll be taking multiple classes with the same people without even realizing it. The campus is beautiful and the town is a few minutes away on foot. There is plenty of housing and stuff to do when not in class.

Overall Experience: I absolutely love Northern. I have met the greatest people and had the best experiences here. I couldn't imagine going to a different school.

Campus Housing: Some dorms are better than others. Each one has a different personality. There are also some run-down ones and some nice ones, but the run-down ones actually feel more like home to me.

Party Scene: It's not easy to walk into parties like it would be at a bigger school. That said, when you can find them, they're a lot of fun.

Off-Campus Dining: Lots of nice places to eat.

Administration: I know a lot of issues have had issues with parking, and the planning seems poor. Otherwise, NMU seems fairly average in terms of strictness.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Food: I like the dining halls, but both the amount and the quality of the food gets worse towards the end of the semester. The on-campus resturaunts are good, but often expensive.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I don't understand a lot of the finanial information still, but generally the school has been very helpful.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: The closer you want to live to campus the more expensive it is. The farther away from campus the cheaper the house will be.

4 College Sophomore

Party Scene: They are pretty crazy, they are at houses and the bars in town.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: There is a great variety of local restaurants that are around town but there are also chain restaurants so there is so known restaurants.

4 College Sophomore

Administration: They are always there when you need them, just a pone call away.

Scholarships: It was pretty simple I got what I needed. it just took some time until I got it and waiting for it to apply to my bill.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Food: Sometimes the food got repetitive and it might be a good idea to ask students what kind of foods that they would want. Otherwise there were good and bad days for food. You never knew what was going to be there. Need to keep the menu updated online so students know what the dining halls are serving that day.

5 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: You really get to know people when you live in the dorms. It helps you to make friends and to get involved in things that go on around the dorms and on campus. The dorms are nice and you just share a bathroom with 3 other people. Some things that I did not like was that I took my housing survey for a roommate and the roommate I got did not have the same things that I was interested in at all and nothing matched we were the complete opposite, it was not a great fit. The cost was good and it was convenient to get to all my class.

3 College Freshman

Athletics: Not many people go to games. We have the dome which is something other schools don't have. As a college athlete not many people go the games and even know where our field is.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Many of the off campus houses are old homes. If you want a really nice place a apartment would be better

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Mostly local restaurants and pizza joints will give students discounts. The pizza places will give discounts during hockey season.

3 College Freshman

Administration: It depends on what hall you live in and what RA you have.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I got what I needed. Now I just need to get more scholarships.
