Overall Experience: Since starting my first semester there, I have enjoyed all of my classes and speaking to some of the students that seem mature and involved with there education. Going to this cummunity college has helped my transition to college to progress smoothly because of their small classes and helpful faulty members. I've learned that you can get much more out of education even outside of the classroom if you apply yourself the material/conceptsand to practical use, learn effective study strategies proven to work, and so forth. It's also critical to receive all the help you can get regarding your academics and any other issues since North Shore does a great job with that. The environment of the small classes here along with professors that can give you individual attention help you to thrive intellectually and grow as a student. Also getting involved with what this school has to offer has allowed me to meet other great students with similar qualities and interests I share, and to just hang out and enjoy my time there. The more invested you are in your education and the more you get involved with what is offered here, the more fulfilling your college learning experience at North Shore can be.

Overall Experience: I came to North Shore Community College after failing to succeed at two regular universities. After all the stigma I had heard about community colleges I was pleasantly surprised to find that NSCC exceeded my expectations on multiple accounts. First of all, the campus. The campus is beautiful. The buildings are always clean, well-light, and welcoming. The cafeteria food has a lot of variety and everything I have tried has been pretty good and a very reasonable price. The library is one my favorite places on campus because of all the resources they offer as well as the "quiet zone" in the back which is a very useful place to get work done. The only thing I would change about the campus is the parking, or lack there of, which can sometimes be a nuisance. Secondly, the professors and staff. Every professor I have at North Shore has been wonderful. I have a learning disability and all of my instructors have been accepting, flexible, and helpful with my accommodations and always willing to help me out and answer questions. The staff I have worked with about my accommodations as well as picking my schedule and talking possible future majors have been very nice and helpful. In conclusion, what you get out of community college is what you put into it. If you choose to take your courses seriously and try your hardest to get help when you need it, I think anyone could do well here!

Overall Experience: If I could do it all again, I would most likely have sought private vocational training rather than pursuing a degree at this institution. The administration and paperwork process is unnecessarily tedious, I never had an instance where I did not require overrides for schedule choices within my major. These processes usually took 15 to 20 minutes to complete and quite honestly should not have required me to personally go into the offices in the first place. It also did not help that the office staff treated me like I was incompetent until they themselves found that they needed to do some "special override". While much of the administration has been cleared up by local government intervention, many of the office staff will still prove to be an issue for new students, returning students and alumni alike.

The education is substandard. While there are professors who DO care about their students, the curriculum is out of date which in the end short changes the students. Within my own program I found myself in the 2013/2014 year working out of books and equipment over 10 years old. While most students will agree, new editions of textbooks every year is a bit much, in progressive programs such as medicine and technology having the cutting edge info is vital. My degree was technology based, in the hardware class I brought in parts and cables from home because there were no examples in the lab of current computer hardware. The fundamental "advanced" class on networking had students working with Microsoft Server 2003. The current version is 2012, in it's second revision with a new version on the way. The disaster recovery course had us running out of a book from 2002. Likewise, our networking security book was pre-2010. I ended up getting an education that would have been top notch in 2004, not 2014.

After attending NSCC, I would have been better off not attending it in the first place.

Overall Experience: The class sizes are reasonable. There won't ever be a class that you sign up for that will not allow you time in class to ask questions. The classes move together and students are very patient when it comes to someone not understanding the material.
