4 College Sophomore

Technology: I prefer having my own computer available for classwork and personal use. However, there are computer labs available throughout campus, and it is possible to use labs for projects. It is difficult, of course, during midterm and finals crunches.

4 College Sophomore

Technology: There is always a computer available on campus. There are some computer labs that are open 24 hours a day. The library also has a large amount of available computers. There may be some minor issues with the computers like a defective headphone jack. However it is nothing that will heavily effect your ability to complete work.

5 College Freshman

Technology: Printing is super easy and convenient around campus. Network is very fast and always reliable. Personal computer is a must.

3 College Freshman

Technology: Wish the dorm rooms wi-fi instead of just the lounges but almost everywhere else on campus has it available and it's pretty fast and reliable.

3 College Sophomore

Technology: Technology on campus could be better in the sense of wireless availability, but other than that it is not terrible.

The computer network at NCSU is very convenient for most students. All students may work off of the same network, which is nice, though it can make a computer more susceptible to viruses. Almost every college on campus has at least one main public computer lab. Sometimes these labs are occupied by classes to give students a general introduction to unfamiliar courseware programs like MAPLE. The computers in open labs have many different interfaces, making it easy to use programs such as UNIX, Linux, and MAPLE lab, which is required for all engineering calculus courses. Computer labs are not usually crowded, although many labs located in dormitory lounges tend to crowd a little when a MAPLE math lab is due.

Computer labs offer the option of not buying expensive software that the student may not want to purchase. ResNet is a network service provided to students who live at NCSU; this service allows a student to connect his or her personal computer to NCSU's computer network.
