Drug Safety: Beer Before Bud – Most people choose to drink beer over smoke. I've never heard or seen anyone come to class high before, but some do come to early classes a little buzzed from the night before. Alcohol is very easy to obtain if you're underage, as is weed. The University, from what I know, is typically pretty relaxed with those sorts of violations; however, even simple possession of illegal substances is taken seriously. And most people won't pressure you into drinking or doing drugs.

Party Scene: Abundance, With Little Diversity – There are a fair amount of clubs in Raleigh, but a lot of them are owned and promoted by the same people or have the same sorts of themes (like "College night Thursdays"). The majority of clubs are geared towards college students, though some clubs take aim at young professionals, African Americans, or the gay community.

Bars aren't big with students because most students who drink will do it with friends at their apartments/houses/dorms. Few people like to pay prices at bars when they could easily buy their own alcohol instead.

Transportation is excellent, though. The Wolfline has a bus service that runs on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights from campus to downtown at regular intervals until last call. Cabs and a couple other services also exist for transportation.

Off-Campus Dining: Inexpensive and Unhealthy – An unusually high amount of fast food is within walking distance of NCSU, including Arby's, Subway, Burger King, McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell, Bojangles, Zaxby's, and more. However, several local eateries, especially non-chain restaurants, offer student discounts and specials. Healthy food isn't terribly hard to find, and inexpensive healthy food isn't impossible to find, either. Mediterranean and Asian restaurants seem to be the healthiest and moderately spread around campus, whereas American food and bars seem to be the most prominent in the area.

Weather: I've been walking in very cold conditions for around here for the past couple of months. It really does get old after a while, but they are pretty good about canceling class if it snows or gets icy. It has been really cold this winter but the buses are warm and you can cut through buildings and warm up.

Campus Food: Get Unlimited Plan! Getting the unlimited plan is the best thing you can do for yourself. The dining hall rotation gets old, but the system here for using equivalency makes it easy to pick up a few snacks in some of the restaurants on campus. The new Atrium has pretty limited options, but the quality is decent.

Health & Safety: Campus Police – University police works hard to make sure you are safe. I have found their staff to be friendly and helpful. I feel totally safe walking alone in well-lit and heavily-traveled areas at night and there is a safety escort if you need it. Keep your things locked up and use good judgement and you will be fine.

Scholarships: If you need help fill out a FASA form coming into NC State. Every year they will offer you some sort of loan for those in need.

2 College Junior

Parking: If you live on campus, buy an RE or RW permit if possible because those are the best parking spots. If you park without a permit in one of the parking decks you will get a warning first and then you will get a $50 ticket. They are always checking so if you park in a deck for more than 3 hours you are most likely going to get a ticket. There is always construction at NC State will limits available parking. I would recommend if you live off campus to take the Wolfline into campus because the buses are extremely reliable at State.

4 College Junior

Academics: Biological Sciences- Concentration Human Biology – Being a biological science major encompasses a difficult curriculum full or chemistry, physic, biology, and human anatomy and physiology classes. It is a field that prepares you for any health care related career. This degree is under the CALS department at NC State which offers numerous opportunities for jobs, internships, and research. Research is huge at NC State and the advisors and professors are always willing to help you find more research opportunities.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: Financial aid is entirely decided upon a need and grade basis. Other than making good grades there is little you can do to recieve financial aid from this school.

3 College Freshman

Administration: The campus is all talk and no action. They seem to care about drugs and alcohol, however people are rarely busted.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Lower Class Man Life. The dorms are average here at North Carolina State University. However, the life her isn't so great. There isn't to much to get out and do apart from the gym and food. There needs to be more social events. The beginning of the semester was just fine, but the campus seems to be lacking of life throughout the rest of the year.

4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: Engineering and Vet – NCSU is well known for its engineering and vet program. Though any degree from NCSU is a good one. The frats on campus are pretty decent and there is always something going on. Never a dull moment here.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: University Towers Scandle – I dont know how popular drugs are around the school, but I do know that many students got kicked out of University Towers dorm for smoking pot. Drinking, however, is very popular

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I live in the Tucker FYC dorm and I really enjoy it. The rooms are big enough for my roomate and I to share and not too cramped. All the dorms are close to central campus and is only a short walk from any class or dining option.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I did receive financial aid help. The best tip is to get the fasfa done as soon as possible.

4 College Freshman

Weather: Our school is only delayed &/or closes early for bad winter weather. Our school rarely closes for bad winter weather.

4 College Freshman

Parking: I have a car on campus, mostly for driving off campus to home & work. I park right at my dorm, which is great, & I can always find a parking spot. The cost for a yearly parking pass was very reasonable.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Pretty Good! State has many oppurtunites for experiences and clubs, however they are mostly at night.

2 College Freshman

Scholarships: To get my financial aid for NC State University, I fill out a FAFSA and used those awards towards my college education. I still had to take out some loans and my mom had to pay the rest. I did not receive all of the money that I was hoping on getting.

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: There are many activities that students can get involved with at night. There are many bars and clubs in downtown Raleigh. Students without cars are able to take campus transportation downtown and oly have to walk a block or two to your destination. There are also on campus and off campus parties that students are able to attend.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: There are many options for off-campus housing here at NC State University. The have an apartment complex called college inn that is the closest to campus. They have security guards that walk the halls nightly to insure safety and they have a parking garage for the residents. There are many other apartment complexes near campus that I am not that damiliar with, but I have heard nothing but good comments about them. The only bad thing I've heard about living off campus id that you would have to have your own transportation unless there is public transportation nearby or a shuttle that will take you to campus from your apartment.

Scholarships: While you will receive money if you need it, it is no where close to what your tuition bill comes out to be.

3 Recent Alumnus

Campus Food: While the dining halls don't always offer the tastiest meals, there is always something to eat.
Lots of students like going to eat at the Student Center or various other places to eat all over campus.

5 Recent Alumnus

Local Area: NC State is located in the heart of Raleigh and is surrounded by numerous attractions that exhibit the Wolfpack spirit.
From dining on Hillsborough St which runs next to campus, to shopping and eating in Cameron Village, a few minutes from campus, there is always something going on.
Football is a huge deal at the school and you should definitely go to the games! Make sure you support the Pack and boo against our rival school, the UNC Tarheels.

Overall, the students' experience with NCSU is that it provides them with a rich learning environment. Students learn to balance play and work. Some come to NC State because of family tradition, to get away from the cold, or because of the College of Engineering-but whatever the reason is for the individual, positive feedback always finds its way out. Professors at the University will go above and beyond their call of duty. You make lifelong friends, and you have a huge list of organizations to partake in. Whether you're involved in a college sport, student government, or the Agribusiness Club, you will find your niche here among the thousands of students. Some professors will take you under their wing, and you will learn enormous amounts of information from them. These professors will also become lifelong connections who will probably end up writing letters of recommendation for you when it is time for you to find a job.

NC State wants its students to succeed not only in academics, but in life, too. Here you learn important lifelong skills that are essential to your survival in the real world. Classes can be rigorous and stressful, but students find a way to overcome hardships and get through. Professors will push you to do your best, but at the same time, they understand what it was like to be a student. NC State will help you become an expert in your subject of choice, and with the large number of students, you will come out of college ready to work in some of the most diverse settings.
