Majors: I'm at NCSU and I love the microbiology program here. The directors are very friendly and helpful and are really willing to help you where ever you need it.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: There have been many wolf alert recently due to robberies and crimes however the school sends out timely notices.

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: Always something to do downtown.
Not all college students due to the many young professionals that work in Raleigh.

Parking: Finding a parking spot can be like looking for a needle in a haystack at some points, especially on weekends when anyone can park anywhere, but there are those moments where there are tons of open spots to park in. Because there are buses running all through campus, and off campus at night, there isn't a big need for a car on campus.

Off-Campus Dining: There are plenty of off-campus dining options on both Western and Hillsborough Street, on both sides of campus. Almost every place delivers late, for those nights you are up studying late and get a craving for something. Prices are all reasonable for the amount of food you get and there are some student discounts.

Campus Food: The best places to eat would be Talley or the Attrium because the dining halls don't have the most appealing food choices and their options become repetitive. Dining dollars are great because they help when your meal goes over the equivalence amount.

4 College Freshman

Transportation: Wolfline buses are free, safe and convenient. There are plenty of routes, and they run very regularly, just not on the weekends during the day, which can be slightly inconvenient. City buses, for which students can order a free pass, also come on campus, but I do not have personal experience with those.

Weather: Raleigh is known for its mild weather. We do not have the snows that the mountains have, so classes are rarely cancelled. If the weather is rainy or really cold, we can always take the university buses to classes and the city buses elsewhere. Even if I decide to walk to class in the snow, it is not difficult because the campus grounds are so flat.

Campus Quality: I am in the engineering program at NC State. I am fortunate that this program offers tutors through the engineering department which makes it easy to get that extra help. The school is continuously updating facilities like the current space age renovations to the student center. Also, I am from a small hometown with limited opportunities, so being in the capital city of North Carolina is amazing! There is always something cultural or fun to do here! My parents did not allow me to bring my car to school for my freshman year, but, not to worry, schools buses take me all over campus and city buses are available for anywhere else.

Technology: The computers labs, although nice at NC State University, are extremely crowded, particularly around midterm and finals. All of the computers have wireless access. The only downfall is you have to pay to print.

4 College Senior

Local Area: The local atmosphere is my much better than at where my alma mater for undergrad was. There are several nearby colleges and universities in the Triangle area. In addition, there are so many options as far as shopping and events are concerned.

4 College Senior

Health & Safety: The Office of Public Safety does an excellent job of keeping the campus secure and notifying students when malicious activities occur. Most schools keep such activities under wraps without alerting students.

5 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: Off-campus dining options are amazing near my school. There are so many options no matter what type of food you are in the mood for. There is a Zaxby's, Chipotle, Pita Pit (very healthy), Chile Bomba, Planet Smoothie (great smoothies and they offer daily NCSU discounts), FreshBerry Frozen Yogurt Cafe, etc.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: we have groups of every kind. A Ton of Indian, and asian groups, gay/bisexual clubs, religious clubs, pretty much anything your into there is a group that meets and discusses it.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: The best advice i can give you is to stay on central campus your first year, its best for freshmen, you will be a round a ton of other freshmen all wanting to do the same thing...Meet people. If you choose to stay on campus any years after that I would suggest a dorm like North, Wood, or Avent Ferry, which are on the outskirts of the campus and are much more private with bigger rooms also.

Campus Quality: The campus is great, a lot of brick though. Dont plan on driving thru campus to see what its like because most of the halls where classes are held are easier seen by walking around campus and through our brick yard.

5 College Sophomore

Party Scene: Night life is good. You have the frat parties for the young and the bars for the old.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: Professors are very easy to contact and are quick with emails

5 College Sophomore

Academics: Academics at NC State are on the rise. The new dean in town is cleaning things up and making this school harder every year. No longer is NCSU the easy to pass farm school, but has now become a progressive engineering, business, textile, and design school.

4 College Freshman

Local Area: There are a variety of restaurants, shops, malls, places to hang out, movies. There is never a halt in the activities you can participate in.

2 College Freshman

Parking: Getting a permit is a hassle, parking is a nightmare

4 College Freshman

Majors: My program is great. Lots of opportunities, my email inbox gets about 4 or 5 different chances for some internship or event every week.

4 College Freshman

Majors: What's great about being in the CHASS program is we have more choices for electives and cooler classes that will get rid of your general ed requirements. Instead of taking something like chemistry or biology, I took introduction to companion animals to get rid of my science requirement. Also, you can get rid of your requirements in any order as long as they are completed by graduation. Other programs have certain classes that you have to take certain years which limits their free choices.

3 College Freshman

Majors: Outlines for your major and plans for courses are pretty easy to understand. There is also a lot of professors who want to help you get jobs as soon as possible which is nice. For admissions, I would make sure you have a strong background in the humanities on your transcript.

3 College Freshman

Majors: Some majors at NCSU are good and nationally re known, while others are not as good and considered below average. The engineering at State has and will always be excellent while the biology program will continue to lag behind UNCCH's.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, the students' experience with NCSU is that it provides them with a rich learning environment. Students learn to balance play and work. Some come to NC State because of family tradition, to get away from the cold, or because of the College of Engineering-but whatever the reason is for the individual, positive feedback always finds its way out. Professors at the University will go above and beyond their call of duty. You make lifelong friends, and you have a huge list of organizations to partake in. Whether you're involved in a college sport, student government, or the Agribusiness Club, you will find your niche here among the thousands of students. Some professors will take you under their wing, and you will learn enormous amounts of information from them. These professors will also become lifelong connections who will probably end up writing letters of recommendation for you when it is time for you to find a job.

NC State wants its students to succeed not only in academics, but in life, too. Here you learn important lifelong skills that are essential to your survival in the real world. Classes can be rigorous and stressful, but students find a way to overcome hardships and get through. Professors will push you to do your best, but at the same time, they understand what it was like to be a student. NC State will help you become an expert in your subject of choice, and with the large number of students, you will come out of college ready to work in some of the most diverse settings.
