3 College Freshman

Technology: There is a lot of technology here for sure. Most people just use their own laptops though.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: There are diverse people at NC State. It's a very large university

Off-Campus Dining: There is a lot of food on Hillsboro and Western. Having downtown Raleigh a short bus ride away is pretty fantastic for dining.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Everything is grungy and feels dirty. Very bland campus

3 College Freshman

Local Area: Raleigh is awesome! Everything immediately around campus is a little sketchy

2 College Freshman

Athletics: Lots of support for mediocre teams. Pretty mediocre school overall

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Usually can smell the weed on at least a couple people per class

2 College Freshman

Academics: The professors are just here to research, and the students are just here to get degrees

Health & Safety: There is a small amount of crime reported-about one WolfAlert every month, but I still do not feel very secure on campus

3 College Junior

Scholarships: Applying for aid was not that hard but as tuition charges are going up, its getting hard to receive any additional aid.

3 College Junior

Academics: The professors tend to make classes much harder than need be.

4 College Junior

Local Area: Campus is in the middle of a very nice part of Raleigh so we get all the benefits of the higher middle class.

Administration: I don't really know how strict campus policies are because I've never been in trouble.

Off-Campus Dining: Its mostly just fast food and chain restaurants. While there are many hidden gems you have to be able to reach them by car.

3 College Junior

Academics: Most professors truly aren't there for you and make their classes way harder than they need to be.

4 College Junior

Majors: It took me 3 years to figure out the major that was right for me so I definitely would've started over. My career goal is to become a sports agent. NC State doesn't do a very good job of helping first year students find the right major for them.

3 College Junior

Majors: I am currently still trying to get into my program but once I make the GPA requirement I should have no problem getting in.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: There are so many apartment complexes to choose from. Getting a house is a bit more of a struggle.

2 College Junior

Weather: The rain makes it impossible to walk around campus without slipping.

4 College Freshman

Local Area: There are always things happening on campus and it seems lively.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I feel safe on campus because the campus Police are active and they are willing to help out.

4 College Freshman

Academics: There are a lot of opportunities to get an internship and the workload is not that much. You can still enjoy life.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Any building is nice but each has its flaws. Big rooms = far from classes

Scholarships: I turned in my FAFSA and the university helped a lot.

5 College Freshman

Local Area: Raleigh is great for the adventurous. It has so much to offer in experiences.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, the students' experience with NCSU is that it provides them with a rich learning environment. Students learn to balance play and work. Some come to NC State because of family tradition, to get away from the cold, or because of the College of Engineering-but whatever the reason is for the individual, positive feedback always finds its way out. Professors at the University will go above and beyond their call of duty. You make lifelong friends, and you have a huge list of organizations to partake in. Whether you're involved in a college sport, student government, or the Agribusiness Club, you will find your niche here among the thousands of students. Some professors will take you under their wing, and you will learn enormous amounts of information from them. These professors will also become lifelong connections who will probably end up writing letters of recommendation for you when it is time for you to find a job.

NC State wants its students to succeed not only in academics, but in life, too. Here you learn important lifelong skills that are essential to your survival in the real world. Classes can be rigorous and stressful, but students find a way to overcome hardships and get through. Professors will push you to do your best, but at the same time, they understand what it was like to be a student. NC State will help you become an expert in your subject of choice, and with the large number of students, you will come out of college ready to work in some of the most diverse settings.
