Health & Safety: We do have some crime on campus (especially because the campus is located in a major city). One of the most prevalent crimes is stealing personal property (i.e. laptops). We do have security measures, such as a "Safety Escort" system, where you can have a police officer walk you back to your residence hall at night (between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.). We also have a WolfAlert system, where students and staff receive an e-mail and/or a text message about any serious emergency that is happening on or near campus.

Overall Experience: So far, I've had a great experience with my courses and professors. My professors are engaging and are passionate about the subjects that they teach. They make large classes seem smaller, which is great. I like how my intro to bio class was smaller than normal, due to it being the "Step-Up" version of the class ("Step-Up" classes are part of the new "Think and Do" initiative at NC State - it allows for more creative/critical thinking, group discussions, etc). I have only had some issues with one TA, but luckily everything was resolved.

Overall Experience: I don't know that much about the student career prospects at NCSU, since I'm just a freshman. However, I do know that we have a fantastic engineering program (aka engineering degrees are considered very valuable). I do know that we are supposed to have a great Career Center, although I have not taken advantage of it quite yet. So far, we have had multiple career fairs, too. My school definitely cares about the success of its students!

Campus Housing: I love my residence hall (Wood Hall)! It's a great option if you want to be close to Talley Student Union, the gym, etc. I enjoy the fact that I have suite-mates and a suite bathroom (not a hall bathroom). Living in Building B of Wood Hall is super convenient too (it's where the laundry room is located).

Greek Life: I don't know a lot about the Greek life on campus, but I do know that we have multiple frats and sororities. Some people do join, although most people that I know aren't interested.

Athletics: The student attendance is very high for the men's football games and the men's basketball games, but not as high for other games (i.e. women's soccer).

Overall Experience: At first, I kind of doubted attending NC State because I felt left out. But after the first couple months I started to love it more and more. The professors are so helpful and passionate about what they teach, which makes the classes way more interesting. Overall, all of the staff is kind especially at the dining halls too. I've made lots of great friends too.

Overall Experience: The people here are amazing and diverse. NC State has so many international and forward-thinking students, and with so many different cultures represented on campus, every day is a learning experience. My best friend in college is an international student, and she never fails to shock me with her different life views and experiences. In addition, one might think that NC State puts such a heavy emphasis on science and engineering that it chokes out art, but this is not so. Even as an engineering student, I have been lucky to enjoy lots of time in the University theatre and the crafts center. One of the best things about my school is that I don't have to choose between two things I love, engineering and art, because here I can do both.

Overall Experience: I was really excited to go here but now, my second year here, I realize that I should have looked into the university a little bit more. Let me start out by saying that when you go here, you are receiving a top notch education and classes here are no joke. However, that is about all this place seems to offer. Let me start by saying if you want to be involved in Greek Life, you should probably start looking at different colleges now. The moment you join Greek Life at NC State, you lose any kind of privacy. I've had to make all my social media accounts private because the school and IFC create fake accounts to follow me and NCSU police constantly patrol Greek Court. It's very clear that the school doesn't like Greek Life and the only reason they wont get rid of it is because they know they would lose applicants if they took away Greek Life. So instead, they just control it to the point where it may as well not exist. As a result, any kind of gathering or party is almost always shut down and the police here will look for almost any reason to ticket you.

Now if you are someone who just wants a good education and plans to play video games all the way through college, look no further. But if you are someone that likes to get out and just let loose on the weekends and meet people left and right, that isn't the atmosphere here.

Extremely stressful classes, not a lot of opportunities to meet people, and a serious lack of things to do on the weekend. Together, it makes an atmosphere that really just isn't healthy. Students need an outlet to relieve stress on the weekends and outside of home football games, it doesn't exist.

If I could do it over again, I would probably look past North Carolina State University. Unless you attend here with a large group a friends going with you, you will probably regret not looking at other colleges more seriously.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, the students' experience with NCSU is that it provides them with a rich learning environment. Students learn to balance play and work. Some come to NC State because of family tradition, to get away from the cold, or because of the College of Engineering-but whatever the reason is for the individual, positive feedback always finds its way out. Professors at the University will go above and beyond their call of duty. You make lifelong friends, and you have a huge list of organizations to partake in. Whether you're involved in a college sport, student government, or the Agribusiness Club, you will find your niche here among the thousands of students. Some professors will take you under their wing, and you will learn enormous amounts of information from them. These professors will also become lifelong connections who will probably end up writing letters of recommendation for you when it is time for you to find a job.

NC State wants its students to succeed not only in academics, but in life, too. Here you learn important lifelong skills that are essential to your survival in the real world. Classes can be rigorous and stressful, but students find a way to overcome hardships and get through. Professors will push you to do your best, but at the same time, they understand what it was like to be a student. NC State will help you become an expert in your subject of choice, and with the large number of students, you will come out of college ready to work in some of the most diverse settings.
