3 College Senior

Campus Housing: Social life is okay, but it could be a lot better than what it is. People do not like to step out of their comfort zones and meet different people.

1 Recent Alumnus

Campus Housing: They try to FORCE you to live on campus. In this way, the college treats the students like little children, which many are, actually.

2 College Senior

Campus Housing: The only bad part about newberry is that it is small. the more expensive houses have a lot of room but the average ones are small and tight. The social atmosphere is fun and exciting to live near friends

2 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: The freshman dorms are in dire need of renovations. They are very old and very tiny. In the freshman dorms there is not even a sink in your room. You have to go down the hall for everything, even to rinse out a cereal bowl, wash your face, etc. The beds and the furniture are also very old. Doesn't seem like the sophomore dorms are much better. I realize that it is an older college and I love the history at Newberry but a little renovations could go a long way.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: The campus housing is not some of the best dorms. Most colleges now have apartment style dorms or suit style dorms. Of course, this is what every student wants to live in. Unfourtantely, Newberry College only has two dorms this style. We have the Oakland Mills apartments that have recently just been assigned to seniors 21 and over and some juniors. The other dorm, Walker dorm, is a suit style dorm that is available to seniors and juniors. So, it is not fair for sophmores and freshman that want this style of dorm because it is not avalible to them. Those two dorms are the newest dorms. The other dorms at Newberry are very old and has lots of problems including air condition problems and bug problems. I think this college needs updated dorms that acquire what students want and are happy to live in. The atmosphere of the dorms are great. On my hall we have a study group that goes into the lobby and studies twice a week together. The cost is average but not average for what we are paying to live in. The housing process is very stressful. As a upcoming senior I was not able to get the mills or walker (which is assigned to seniors and juniors) because by the time it was time for me to sign up for housing, they were all full up. The process is not fair and should be changed to make it easier and fair to everyone.
