Off-Campus Dining: In New York City the number of off campus dining options are infinite. The types of food and the cost varies. New York City has everything there is to offer. There are several places around the NYU area that offer discounts for students and even allow students to pay with their NYU Campus Cash.

Health & Safety: I think that the measures taken by NYU to keep students safe and healthy at NYU are outstanding. The NYU ID card is basically your ticket around campus: it allows you entry to all NYU buildings, and unless you do not live in campus housing, an NYU ID lets you in to all of the dorms. The NYU safety officiers are very nice, but they do have a job, so do not expect to get away with leaving your ID at home. New York in general has a lot of police because of the size of the city, so as a student I have always felt very safe walking around, or in my own dorm building. There is a really great shuttle service that NYU offers as well. Say you are walking around, it's late, and you are getting a bit lost. Well, just call NYU's safety shuttle service, and an officer will come get you in a van and take you back to your dorm. NYU really does a wonderful job at ensuring students' safety.

Campus Food: NYU offers a really wonderful array of dining options. There are always vegetarian and vegan options. One dining hall even has a special seating section strictly for Kosher students. I also think that most of the food served is healthy and students can make good choices about what to eat. The dining halls also open early and close late, so there is a lot of choice given to students about when to eat too. I will say that depending on what or how much you eat, the value that NYU gives their meals is a bit pricey. I would suggest a flex meal plan if you are unsure about how much you will be eating at the dining hall, and are looking to save money.

Weather: Coming from the west coast, and a state that gets a lot of rain, I would say that when it rains in NYC, it really rains. However NYC is very seasonal, so there is a lot of wonderful sunshine, some snow, and some overcast days. But I really love the weather here because of how often it is sunny. Even in the winter, walking around campus is great with the chill of the air reminding you that winter is still the chilly season we all know and love, while the sun offers a nice, and cheery contrast.

Guys & Girls: NYU students are just as diverse as the city itself. There are students from all around the globe, so as one might imagine there is a lot to explore in terms of social connections. However, everyone is very friendly, and because the school is fairly large, everyone is looking for more and more friends to share a great time with. The stylish flair of the city certainly attracts some, but the excitement and thrill of New York City is reflected in both the guys and girls here.

Academics: There is a lot of liberal bias. If you are a are conservative at all in any way, then you should plan on keeping it a secret or your grade will probably suffer. With that said, the academics are great depending on the teacher. Most teachers genuinely want you to learn and do well at NYU. I mean, it is NYU, isn't it? I would be concerned if the academics weren't great.

Party Scene: You have to have a fake id. If you do not have a fake id then say hello netflix and every night will be a night in for you. Once your get burnt out from the clubs after freshman year, then you will find tons of awesome bars and more of your friends will have apartments you can have kickbacks at.

Guys & Girls: It is mostly jewish guys/girls and asian guys/girls. if you are in to that then that's great! but if you aren't looking for that then you may want to look off campus for someone to date. Because of the exceptionally large number of girls, guys figure out really quick that they can hook up with pretty much whoever they want due to how desperate girls become due to the lack of guys, so most guys are only down to hook up.

Off-Campus Dining: It's New York City. So many restaurants around school. You can get any type of food that you want and it will not break your budget. However, if you do want to go somewhere nice there are so many places that are a quick train ride away.

Technology: Computers are available ALL over campus and are very new mac computers.

Weather: New York City experiences all types of weather. Summers get very hot and humid, falls are chilly, winters are bitter cold, and springs are temperate. You need a good rain jacket since walking is the main method of transportation.

Scholarships: I received no financial aid but I did receive loans. The office was reluctant to give us any consideration and were not easy to deal with.

Transportation: Most students walk/take the subway. Do not bring a car as parking is and always will be a hassle. First-year students will rarely be outside walking distance of classes, which are spaced at fifteen minute intervals anyway. NYU has its own shuttle service and also offers pickup/transport to students after hours.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Peer pressure exists especially when dorming, where "rules" on no drugs/drinking are set up but nine times out of nine are absolutely not enforced. If you say no, rest assured you'll be the minority, but these people do exist and generally suffer little more than bemusement (sometimes even grudging respect) from the majority. Adderall and marijuana usage spikes during finals/midterms.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: Common consensus on campus is that we are the school with the most diversity in the states, whether judging by ethnicity, sexual orientation, major (stern vs. tisch vs. poly...) or economic background. It goes without saying, however, that we are a pretty much liberal-inclined school.

Off-Campus Housing: Real estate in Manhattan is very hard to come by, even if you have the loans to cover living expenses - you most likely won't meet the qualifications for renting unless you have a very qualified co-signer (with good credit and making big bucks in annual salary)

5 College Senior

Campus Quality: The variety of programs and facilities at NYU make it a great place to learn about your academic and career interests, but more importantly about yourself as an individual.

Campus Quality: Student life on campus truly reflects the diversity and vitality of the university.

4 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Always a social scene but since it is a very academic based school, kids either go too crazy or are very uptight at parties. Very different looking students since we go in NYC and no judging of other's appearances. Variety of interests not just parties on the weekends and everyone travels between boroughs for different activities. Relationships aren't easy to get into for long term but it is possible.

Off-Campus Dining: Always a variety but always very costly. Some student discounts apply so that is a plus.

2 College Freshman

Weather: It makes it very difficult to get to classes because we walk everywhere and it makes the buildings congested with students trying to flee bad weather.

1 College Sophomore

Parking: There is no campus, there is no parking. The parking in the garages is EXPENSIVE.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: The academic program is amazing top notch education. What social scene? The facilities are great, modern and clean. I think that the campus life is also great, I live at home but there is a sense of community between the dormers. The opportunities are endless here were at the heart of the world.

5 College Junior

Diversity: There is a ton of diversity at NYU- it's a massive school with people of all races and religions here, from all over the world. We have a ton of international students and students of every sexual orientation. As someone who likes to surround themselves with as many interesting, diverse people as possible, I am definitely happy with the variety of people here. And even if you prefer to stay within a certain group then it is pretty easy to do so as well.

5 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: It's NYC- there are a million different restaurants of a million different kinds. I'm a health nut and a vegetarian, but never have any trouble finding a place to eat- and when my carnivore friends and I go out to dinner we never have trouble finding a place. There is something for everyone in NYC.

NYU offers students a taste of the hustle and bustle they will most likely encounter in the real world once they graduate. It is an overpopulated institution, so you have to be ready to fight to gain certain academic opportunities, but cultivating such a habit may serve as indirect training for new graduates when they have to go about securing jobs in their respective fields. Life at NYU demands a certain kind of disposition; thus, it is not for everyone. For students who love NYC and the challenge and experience it offers, it is an exciting and ever-changing community. For those who desire a community-rich college experience, NYU is lacking in that area. However, you can make an amazing experience out of what the school does offer. Whatever your choice, get ready for a mix of demanding academics and wild experiences in the city. Finding a balance between the two is key at this big-city school.

Many students claim that the best part about attending NYU is living in New York City, while other students complain about the school's large tuition. Most often, students are dissatisfied with the lack of a campus or school spirit, and many students believe that the institution is run too much like a business, with the school using millions of dollars to make NYU a global institution instead of supporting its current students. Otherwise, most students appreciate the various benefits of living in the city, such as diverse and exciting nightlife options, a broad range of cuisines, and prestigious and diverse internship opportunities.
