1 College Junior

Athletics: I go to school at Tisch Asia in Singapore, and there are no exercise facilities or sports teams of any kind.

1 College Sophomore

Scholarships: NYU is the worst in the country for financial aid. There are a limited amount of scholarships and a lot of money goes toward useless or unnecessary projects.

4 College Sophomore

Technology: The computers lab have modern computers and enough computers for everyone to use. Printers sometimes do not work, but when they do, they are fast and efficient.

5 College Junior

Majors: The process of being accepted into NYU was rather easy for me. I attended a student open house and was encouraged to write an essay explaining why I wanted to attend the university. I took various enter acne exams, which included math and writing efficiency exams. Once I got in, I enrolled in my first courses with the guidance of a student advisor and it's been smooth sailing ever since.

Party Scene: The nightlife around NYU is more centered around live bands for students who like to drink and are over the age of 21. However, house parties are always a great option for younger students who want more if a social and intellectual hang out experience.

Health & Safety: The campuses are well monitored by security patrol and video surveillance . The facilities are always clean and free of hazardous elements.

5 College Senior

Drug Safety: The school makes drug policy and prevention very prevalent especially in Residence Hall life.

Majors: I love the nutrition program at NYU. It's what I came here for. It still interests and fascinates me with the more I learn. Domingo, the head advisor, is amazing!

Campus Quality: We have some really great facilities at NYU. Some of them hold so much history to them. For example, the Silver Building was where the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire once took place. It's sort of eerie to walk down the lesser populated hallways in there, but I love it.

Parking: This is New York City. There is often no parking at all, unless you pay to park in a parking garage for some outrageous price. With all of the public transportation that's offered, there's no need for a car here.

2 College Junior

Athletics: We aren't really known for sports at NYU, although the boosters try their best to encourage students to go to the games. On the other hand, the athletic facilities are nice. Palladium Athletic Facility has an olympic-sized swimming pool and a rock wall, as well as new cardio and weight room equipment. Coles lacks air conditioning, but it's really big, and they offer a lot of recreation classes.

4 College Junior

Campus Quality: There are plenty of places to hand out on campus between classes if you don't want to be stuck in Bobst, the library. We have various dining halls, a Starbucks and an Argo Tea on campus, multiple computer labs, Washington Square Park, and the rest of New York City surrounding us. As far as NYU-sponsored events go, NYU does its best to get its students involved in events such as Flurry, IRHC's Elegance, Strawberry Fest, and more. The best part about being at NYU though, is being in NYC. That'll guarantee you to never have a dull moment.

Health & Safety: I feel safe on campus. There are security guards around the perimeter, several at one door sometimes. There are also residential areas around the campus that students and faculty reside in. Besides that there's another college a couple blocks away.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: There are several places at NYU you can study at. The dental school has the most up to date material and supplies for students to use. Besides the dental school, students have access to the medical division and other amenities located around the city.

Campus Quality: The school has a strong academic program and faculty that go out of their way to help students in every aspect to understand the curriculum. They provide outreach programs and volunteer services to students for experience

4 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: There are upcoming professionals at the school, and everyone is working hard toward their goals. There are the same amount of males to females at the school. The school is very diverse.

4 College Senior

Technology: I found a pretty cool deal that students could take advantage of when buying new computers this year. For all the business majors, I would recommend Dell computers over Apple because the Apple version of Microsoft office doesn't cut it for your classes. Keyboard shortcuts are completely strange. You want to get used to regular excel for your internships.

Basically, go to Dell.com/NYU and if you buy a comp over $700 you get a free $200 gift card back (You can buy an xbox like I did). You MIGHT need this MemberID at check out: US126277928, so be prepared with it.

Off-Campus Housing: There's plenty of places through out the city, only expect high prices. Most dorms are cheaper or comparable.

5 College Student

Local Area: There's something to do 24/7, and with the diversity of the city every block is a different world.

Off-Campus Dining: It's New York, there's everything you could possible want, and plenty of it is available for delivery and late at night.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: Cold in Winter. Hot in summer. Spring and Fall can get some absolutely perfect days.

5 College Sophomore

Scholarships: All financial Aid is done through FASFA so as long as you fill it out they will award as needed. Individual schools are great at communicating scholarship options

Transportation: Public transportation is extremely reliable for the most part, but definitely pricey. Cabs are cheap and easy to locate when needed.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

NYU offers students a taste of the hustle and bustle they will most likely encounter in the real world once they graduate. It is an overpopulated institution, so you have to be ready to fight to gain certain academic opportunities, but cultivating such a habit may serve as indirect training for new graduates when they have to go about securing jobs in their respective fields. Life at NYU demands a certain kind of disposition; thus, it is not for everyone. For students who love NYC and the challenge and experience it offers, it is an exciting and ever-changing community. For those who desire a community-rich college experience, NYU is lacking in that area. However, you can make an amazing experience out of what the school does offer. Whatever your choice, get ready for a mix of demanding academics and wild experiences in the city. Finding a balance between the two is key at this big-city school.

Many students claim that the best part about attending NYU is living in New York City, while other students complain about the school's large tuition. Most often, students are dissatisfied with the lack of a campus or school spirit, and many students believe that the institution is run too much like a business, with the school using millions of dollars to make NYU a global institution instead of supporting its current students. Otherwise, most students appreciate the various benefits of living in the city, such as diverse and exciting nightlife options, a broad range of cuisines, and prestigious and diverse internship opportunities.
