Campus Housing: I'm in a low-cost triple, so it's small. Great variety in rooms as the dorm is a fairly old building originally built as a hotel.

Greek Life: I am not involved in Greek life, most students aren't.

Off-Campus Housing: It's NYC so rents are pretty high. You get what you pay for, in terms of the NYC market.

Campus Housing: Hayden is the best option because it is very close to classes, both uptown and downtown, and to the subway stops. For a spacious apartment in New York City, it is a great value.

Diversity: Everyone is very accepting of the many types of people at NYU. There are many international students that contribute to the campus diversity.

Party Scene: All the clubs in the city are accessible for students.

Campus Housing: The Campus Housing is fine. I feel lucky to just to have a space to be in the Manhattan and to be in this neighborhood, so any complaints I could have about the housing (which would apply to just about any dorm, anywhere), are nixed by my gratefulness for the proximity of the dorms to campus.

Local Area: The East Village and Greenwich Village are what I consider to be the best neighborhoods in the best city in America. As an artist, the atmosphere is perfect and always full of diverse, creative, driven people and businesses.

Drug Safety: Since we are students who chose to go to school in NYC, most students, as I can tell, are more driven than the typical college student who parties all the time. That being said, I am one of those students who has professional life on the brain, not parties, so I am somewhat closed off from that "world."

Technology: If I did not have a laptop, I could not attend this school, but that being said, there are a good deal of options for those who don't want to have their own printer or don't want to travel with their laptops each day.

Off-Campus Housing: Finding an apartment in NYC is a very difficult thing to do so most students take advantage of the dorms. But for some, the added freedom and more "adult" lifestyle can be enough of a draw to apartment hunt- the struggle for apartments just comes with moving to this city.

Health & Safety: Considering that we are students in a city full of people from all over the world with different jobs and day-to-day activity, I feel very safe at my school. The public safety officers are readily available for those who may need them.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: Though the financial aid process is tricky, I am one of the very very few people at NYU with a good deal of scholarship money. I lucked out and received some merit based money from my artistic talents, in addition to my need based money.

Off-Campus Dining: The restaurants near NYU campus are all very diverse and high quality. Prices can be high, but that's to be expected in NYC. I do wish that eateries in the Village would offer more discounts for NYU students.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

NYU offers students a taste of the hustle and bustle they will most likely encounter in the real world once they graduate. It is an overpopulated institution, so you have to be ready to fight to gain certain academic opportunities, but cultivating such a habit may serve as indirect training for new graduates when they have to go about securing jobs in their respective fields. Life at NYU demands a certain kind of disposition; thus, it is not for everyone. For students who love NYC and the challenge and experience it offers, it is an exciting and ever-changing community. For those who desire a community-rich college experience, NYU is lacking in that area. However, you can make an amazing experience out of what the school does offer. Whatever your choice, get ready for a mix of demanding academics and wild experiences in the city. Finding a balance between the two is key at this big-city school.

Many students claim that the best part about attending NYU is living in New York City, while other students complain about the school's large tuition. Most often, students are dissatisfied with the lack of a campus or school spirit, and many students believe that the institution is run too much like a business, with the school using millions of dollars to make NYU a global institution instead of supporting its current students. Otherwise, most students appreciate the various benefits of living in the city, such as diverse and exciting nightlife options, a broad range of cuisines, and prestigious and diverse internship opportunities.
