4 College Freshman

Local Area: There is always something going on in the city, and there is everything you could ever think of wanting in the area around.

3 College Freshman

Academics: The workload can be very intense at times, but there is always help when needed. The registration process makes it so difficult to get elective classes that you want.

Campus Housing: Some of the housing options are very small, but there are some that are an amazing size and are very beautiful.

Weather: You get all four seasons, very cold in the winter. Streets are a mess when it snows.

Administration: I like that NYU really enforces attendance for academic classes. I know that if you miss two classes, you're subject to fail which really puts a pressure and encourages students to make it to their classes.

Scholarships: I was dealing with a few financial aid issues because I received my financial aid package quite late. Figuring out how much I received and how much I still owed became a hassle, especially because one person told me I owed one amount and someone else told me I owed more! I also do not like that they only have one option for a payment plan, instead of having a few, more flexible payment plans for their students.

Weather: The only way I am affected my weather is when I am commuting to school, especially during winter storms. It has been one of the coldest winters here in New York so subway delays and packed trains aren't exactly ideal. But, I manage.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: I personally haven't seen any drug or alcohol issues. I've seen bars and restaurants with bars, but I assume they take the proper steps to ensure someone is of age before serving them alcohol.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

NYU offers students a taste of the hustle and bustle they will most likely encounter in the real world once they graduate. It is an overpopulated institution, so you have to be ready to fight to gain certain academic opportunities, but cultivating such a habit may serve as indirect training for new graduates when they have to go about securing jobs in their respective fields. Life at NYU demands a certain kind of disposition; thus, it is not for everyone. For students who love NYC and the challenge and experience it offers, it is an exciting and ever-changing community. For those who desire a community-rich college experience, NYU is lacking in that area. However, you can make an amazing experience out of what the school does offer. Whatever your choice, get ready for a mix of demanding academics and wild experiences in the city. Finding a balance between the two is key at this big-city school.

Many students claim that the best part about attending NYU is living in New York City, while other students complain about the school's large tuition. Most often, students are dissatisfied with the lack of a campus or school spirit, and many students believe that the institution is run too much like a business, with the school using millions of dollars to make NYU a global institution instead of supporting its current students. Otherwise, most students appreciate the various benefits of living in the city, such as diverse and exciting nightlife options, a broad range of cuisines, and prestigious and diverse internship opportunities.
