3 College Freshman

Technology: Again, since I am at NYU's campus in London, our resources are fewer than at the main campus in New York.

3 College Freshman

Weather: In London, it usually rains, but since the spring is coming, the weather has been progressively growing nicer.

Local Area: I am at NYU's campus in London and London is the best place to live.

3 College Freshman

Majors: The best thing about NYU is how connected it is with the city of New York. I'm less worried here about future employment than I would be at any other university.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: They really do try to keep the drugs down but students still find a way.

5 College Freshman

Diversity: It could be argued that NYU is the most diverse university in America.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Overall, aside from a few students self destructive qualities, the campus feels relatively safe.

2 College Freshman

Scholarships: At NYU, only need-based scholarships are available.

Majors: Liberal Studies Program isn't a very fitting program for me. Too much reading and writing and ancient history for an intended econ/business major.

Majors: A lot of different programs, especially Gallatin. However, most people in Stern just go for Finance, but there's no doubt that there's a variety of majors.

Local Area: It's New York City; there's not much else to say. So many things to do.

Greek Life: Greek life isn't that big at NYU. It does provide some good connections if you join the right ones.

Diversity: People from all over the world, NYU is pretty diverse, and as a result, the school itself is very liberal, but most Republicans are shot at pretty hard.

Campus Housing: Campus housing has its pros and cons. It's expensive and some dorms are crowded. It's also quite a hassle to register for the good dorms and it's a very risky process.

Health & Safety: Security is pretty tight around dorms, but they're there with good reason. However, some guards don't have very good personalities, making it troublesome to have guests. All campus buildings also have guards, but it's a necessity in such a crowded city.

5 College Freshman

Party Scene: It's New York City; there's so many bars and clubs. If you're underage, there's plenty more to do sober. You just have to find what you like.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Drug use is pretty prevalent. Marijuana and alcohol are among the most common. If it doesn't suit you, just find the right people, there's plenty who don't partake in these activities.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: It's New York City; there's no end to the possibilities.

4 College Freshman

Administration: A great school for the open-minded and the extrovert. If you apply yourself to have a social life, you will meet some great people. This school is not a school for the shut-ins; it will be miserable if you stay in your dorm the whole time instead of trying to go out and meet people. I got rid of my comfort zones and had one of the best experiences of my life. However, alcohol use and RAs are not a good mix, and they can be quite annoying if you're underage.

Off-Campus Housing: The area where central campus is located is generally very expensive so often having an apartment will require living with at least one roommate anyway. It also is a bit of extra planning to find a good location that's reasonably priced.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: The village, especially MacDougal Street has tons of options that are both conveniently located and open late. Many restaurants offer student discounts too, which sweetens the deal.

Transportation: The NYU bus that runs around campus is pretty convenient but the public transportation can run a bit pricey.

Off-Campus Dining: There is no way that you wouldn't be able to find the type of food you are looking for. It may be expensive (it is NYC after all) but you can't complain about the lack of choice available.

Athletics: NYU is not an athletic school. We have varsity athletics that do fairly well, but it is not really news.

Administration: There are VERY strict rules on campus. It's very strict regarding any alcohol or drug use and any guests (even if they just want to help bring something up to your room for you) HAS to be signed in and out by the resident. And if they don't have very specific ID, forget about it.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

NYU offers students a taste of the hustle and bustle they will most likely encounter in the real world once they graduate. It is an overpopulated institution, so you have to be ready to fight to gain certain academic opportunities, but cultivating such a habit may serve as indirect training for new graduates when they have to go about securing jobs in their respective fields. Life at NYU demands a certain kind of disposition; thus, it is not for everyone. For students who love NYC and the challenge and experience it offers, it is an exciting and ever-changing community. For those who desire a community-rich college experience, NYU is lacking in that area. However, you can make an amazing experience out of what the school does offer. Whatever your choice, get ready for a mix of demanding academics and wild experiences in the city. Finding a balance between the two is key at this big-city school.

Many students claim that the best part about attending NYU is living in New York City, while other students complain about the school's large tuition. Most often, students are dissatisfied with the lack of a campus or school spirit, and many students believe that the institution is run too much like a business, with the school using millions of dollars to make NYU a global institution instead of supporting its current students. Otherwise, most students appreciate the various benefits of living in the city, such as diverse and exciting nightlife options, a broad range of cuisines, and prestigious and diverse internship opportunities.
