Campus Quality: I like to hang out in my dorm's lounges, or in casual lounges in academic buildings. It's fun to hang out in a dining hall, but loud and sometimes smelly.

Overall Experience: I'm really glad I came to NYU, and i'm happy there. Go Bobcats!

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I am very happy at NYU! I've had my ups and downs, but at the end of the day, there's nowhere else I can picture myself.

Overall Experience: Depends on the program, of course, but generally a degree from NYU turns some heads. Particularly true for Stern (business), Tisch (performing arts), Silver (social work), and the medical school.

Local Area: You're in New York City! There is literally any attraction you could possibly want - and if not, you can find public transportation to get you elsewhere.

Guys & Girls: Lots of hipsters, but plenty of non-hipsters too. There are people of all genders, sexualities, and "types" - if you're looking for someone, you'll find someone! I am still with my high school boyfriend, so I didn't date while at NYU, but my friends say that the field is there for people who want to play it.

Health & Safety: Safety by NYU buildings is pretty good. But I mean, we're in New York City... you have to use common sense. Do that and you're fine.

Athletics: Literally nobody cares about NYU athletics except for the athletes. But the facilities at Palladium are good!

Party Scene: Parties are pretty much everywhere - clubs, bars, people's dorms/apartments, frat/sorority houses, whatever. It's easy to find some place to go out on any night of the week, especially if you're 21+ or have a fake. But there's a good number of 18+ places too.

Administration: Haven't had many experiences with administration, but I think they're pretty much like any school.

Campus Food: Campus food is pretty great! Lots of options and almost all of it is really good. On the downside, you'll be tempted to eat so much junk and then worry about the freshman 15.

Scholarships: The process for getting financial aid isn't hard at all - you basically wait to hear back from the office. Problem is, they don't give most people as much aid as they need.

Campus Housing: I lived in Rubin and loved it! I had 2 different rooms in the building because of roommate issues. The staff was really helpful, especially Scott and the RAs. It's super close to campus, less than a 5 minute walk to Weinstein or Silver. Only problem: The building is old and needs constant maintenance. I got stuck in an elevator once - probably the lowlight of my time living there.

Scholarships: the process of financial aid at NYU is some what complicated. in order to get financial aid, you must be committed to hard work.

Off-Campus Dining: Its New York. I mean theres everything you could possibly want, the only downfall is that its expensive.

3 College Freshman

Administration: I think having visitors come in should be easier. I should have a guest stay for as long as I want them to.

4 College Freshman

Campus Food: I think overall campus food is pretty good. There are always multiple options and there is something for everyone.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

NYU offers students a taste of the hustle and bustle they will most likely encounter in the real world once they graduate. It is an overpopulated institution, so you have to be ready to fight to gain certain academic opportunities, but cultivating such a habit may serve as indirect training for new graduates when they have to go about securing jobs in their respective fields. Life at NYU demands a certain kind of disposition; thus, it is not for everyone. For students who love NYC and the challenge and experience it offers, it is an exciting and ever-changing community. For those who desire a community-rich college experience, NYU is lacking in that area. However, you can make an amazing experience out of what the school does offer. Whatever your choice, get ready for a mix of demanding academics and wild experiences in the city. Finding a balance between the two is key at this big-city school.

Many students claim that the best part about attending NYU is living in New York City, while other students complain about the school's large tuition. Most often, students are dissatisfied with the lack of a campus or school spirit, and many students believe that the institution is run too much like a business, with the school using millions of dollars to make NYU a global institution instead of supporting its current students. Otherwise, most students appreciate the various benefits of living in the city, such as diverse and exciting nightlife options, a broad range of cuisines, and prestigious and diverse internship opportunities.
