Off-Campus Dining: There are so many restaurants, cafes, and chain restaurants to eat at. Most of them are very close by, but they are expensive, unless you know what places have discounts. So many different choices and different cultural cuisines.

Health & Safety: There is always people and security around. You can't enter the buildings unless you have an ID. There are people there to answer questions if you are lost and don't know where your classes are.

Majors: So many options are available to the students at NYU. Wasserman center makes it really easy to search internships and edit your resume. It might be difficult finding the time if you are studying a difficult major. It also might be frustrating not having a paying internship, but NYU does offer internship grants which you can apply for.

Off-Campus Dining: New York City hands down has some of the best cuisine. McDougal street is great for on campus restaurants.

Off-Campus Housing: Difficult for sure, but that is New York City real-estate. Apartments come on and off the market all the time so there is always availability. Quality and price are what you have to hunt for, but most people find the perfect place!

Health & Safety: For being in the center of New York City I would have to say NYU does a good job making me feel safe. There are 24 safe ride busses to and from NYU buildings as well as 24/7 security in the dorms.

Campus Housing: Although the lottery is stressful, the location of NYU dorms is amazing....you may never have a 5th ave address ever again in your entire life. Shoutout to Rubin Hall!

Scholarships: NYU gives to those who REALLY need the money, however most middle class families are left to pay the entire bill :(

Athletics: Most people at NYU barely even know we have athletic teams. I myself am a junior and have never been to an NYU athletic event. The bookstore sells T-shirts that say "NYU Football" as a joke....because we don't have a football team. However most of us don't care about sports and didn't come here for them. We came here for the CITY!

Local Area: Well, it's NYC, so of course there's tons of options for festivals and fun stuff (including NYU discounted or free activities), no matter what floats your boat.

Campus Housing: I like the size of the rooms, drawer space, proximity to classes(if you're in Brooklyn, otherwise yeah right because the "campus" is so spread out).

Scholarships: Hah, if you think you'll get an awesome financial aid deal that results in you paying a fairly small amount.

Health & Safety: The school tries to keep students safe, which can be hard in NYC. One great option if you're out late at night is the safe ride vans, a free service that takes students from any NYU building to another NYU building (Manhattan to Brooklyn, too!)

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

NYU offers students a taste of the hustle and bustle they will most likely encounter in the real world once they graduate. It is an overpopulated institution, so you have to be ready to fight to gain certain academic opportunities, but cultivating such a habit may serve as indirect training for new graduates when they have to go about securing jobs in their respective fields. Life at NYU demands a certain kind of disposition; thus, it is not for everyone. For students who love NYC and the challenge and experience it offers, it is an exciting and ever-changing community. For those who desire a community-rich college experience, NYU is lacking in that area. However, you can make an amazing experience out of what the school does offer. Whatever your choice, get ready for a mix of demanding academics and wild experiences in the city. Finding a balance between the two is key at this big-city school.

Many students claim that the best part about attending NYU is living in New York City, while other students complain about the school's large tuition. Most often, students are dissatisfied with the lack of a campus or school spirit, and many students believe that the institution is run too much like a business, with the school using millions of dollars to make NYU a global institution instead of supporting its current students. Otherwise, most students appreciate the various benefits of living in the city, such as diverse and exciting nightlife options, a broad range of cuisines, and prestigious and diverse internship opportunities.
