4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I've already said all I need to say in my other answers, I feel.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Definitely take advantage of the Wasserman Center. It's is a valuable resource that can help you with anything ranging from resumes to internships to full time careers from your freshman year to senior year and beyond.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I lived in Brittany my freshman year. And in my opinion it's the best. Hayden and Founders would probably reign second an third. Definitely thoroughly research all the dorms online and in person if you can to try to make a decision that works best for you (including prices).

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: My friends are in some. They like it. Greek life was never my preference. And although it's not huge at NYU, it's definitely more than you think.

3 College Freshman

Athletics: It's very important to stay healthy. It's a free gym included in your tuition. USE IT. It's beneficial.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Of course NYU is super unique. Everyone knows what is is. And the stereotype behind it, besides it being the most obnoxiously expensive school ever, is that it is a dream. Living in New York as a young adults on your own basically while still in the comfort of being in college is a dream. You meet so many people NYU and non-NYU affiliated and it's great. I, myself, found it easy to get acclimated to the environment of basically it being a part of a city. If I gave any advice I would just say to go ahead and put yourself out there. Say hello to random peers. Go to club meetings that interest you. See shows. And even though there is so much to do, don't think that you have to do it all. There are many times where I just stayed in my dorm and watched Netflix because I felt like it while my friends were out. And there have also been times when I stayed out until 3am with my friends just having fun. And just always remember that you are there to try to jumpstart your life through your education and valuable experience. Pay attention in class and take advantage of all of the programs that NYU has! You aren't paying 70k a year for nothing...

4 College Sophomore

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: We have so many opportunities available to us after we leave NYU, and there is so much activities where we get to mingle with alumni students as well as employers from many backgrounds.

5 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: I always feel safe at my school, although sometimes the security guards are on their phones when I'm walking in the building and I have to get their attention to check my id.

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Unlike most schools, Greek Life isn't very discussed on my campus. I don't know much about it.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I feel like the professors ans staff are very involved with all the students in the program, and I love the fact that they are so attentive with each individual student.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: There so much support within NYU. There is always someone to talk to if a city big as NYC.

4 Recent Alumnus

Overall Experience: If you go to all the class and get to interact with the professor, you will enjoy your selected courses. Also, you will be able to meet more people through your classes.

4 Recent Alumnus

Overall Experience: NYU is one of the top schools in the United States. With all the opportunities the school provides, it is almost guaranteed that you have all the tools to be successful after graduating from NYU.

4 College Junior

Academics: NYU have different schools within itself. The Nursing school is very intense, but you meet so many different students and professors that will help. Each course offer a lot of knowledge, skill, and training to advance your nursing career.

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: The professors are good, but the courses can be very intense and even they can get too busy.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: It is very diverse when it comes to internship and other opportunities at NYU.

5 College Junior

Health & Safety: NYU security is very adequate. None of the students are allowed in the school or on campus without ID. There is even a security guard that search bags to assure there aren't any weapons.

5 College Freshman

Health & Safety: NYU is very serious about keeping its students safe. The school's reality show that is shown to all freshman at the presidential welcome in the beginning of the school year features real life scenarios that students go through. The show constantly reminds students of the Wellness Center's hotline in case they need medical attention - whether that be for birth control, to get a shot, or to see a nutritionist to name a few possibilities - counseling, to learn about relaxation methods such as yoga, to report a sexual assault, and more.

Since NYU is an open campus, students pass by homeless people and drug dealers in Washington Square Park, by residence halls, and in the general area. Due to the increased threats and risks of walking on campus at night either by yourself or with a group, NYU offers Safe Ride vans. Safe rides can be used by students from midnight to 6:30 a.m. I've used safe rides multiple times in the early hours of the day to safely get to a residence hall from the library, or from my friend's dorm to another dorm.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

NYU offers students a taste of the hustle and bustle they will most likely encounter in the real world once they graduate. It is an overpopulated institution, so you have to be ready to fight to gain certain academic opportunities, but cultivating such a habit may serve as indirect training for new graduates when they have to go about securing jobs in their respective fields. Life at NYU demands a certain kind of disposition; thus, it is not for everyone. For students who love NYC and the challenge and experience it offers, it is an exciting and ever-changing community. For those who desire a community-rich college experience, NYU is lacking in that area. However, you can make an amazing experience out of what the school does offer. Whatever your choice, get ready for a mix of demanding academics and wild experiences in the city. Finding a balance between the two is key at this big-city school.

Many students claim that the best part about attending NYU is living in New York City, while other students complain about the school's large tuition. Most often, students are dissatisfied with the lack of a campus or school spirit, and many students believe that the institution is run too much like a business, with the school using millions of dollars to make NYU a global institution instead of supporting its current students. Otherwise, most students appreciate the various benefits of living in the city, such as diverse and exciting nightlife options, a broad range of cuisines, and prestigious and diverse internship opportunities.
