Transportation: The Subway and Walking – NYC public transportation is amazing. And all the walking you do is great, too, as it keeps you moving and allows you to be out on the stimulating street.

Local Area: The Best! Being in college in New York City offers the widest array of possibility. I can't imagine having studied anywhere else. Anything you're interested in is happening in the city.

Campus Food: Food Everywhere – There are more than ten dining halls on campus, with Kosher and Vegan options, and the occasional themed meal. Many local vendors also accept "Campus Cash," making it easy to get food anywhere.

Campus Quality: The Campus on the Park – There is a wonderful, centrally located Library that looks out onto Washington Square Park and has endless resources. There is a sports center on one side of campus and another gym in a dorm on the opposite side. Most of the main academic buildings are centered around Washington Square Park, as are most resource centers. It's very convenient to get to any places that need to be gotten to!

Overall Experience: NYU is a school that caters to the students. Whatever you want to do, you can do it here. NYU is your leader and New York City is your playground. I have had some amazing experiences here, from famous celebrities in class lecturing to witnessing Occupy Wall Street in front of my classroom. You are truly limitless here.

Party Scene: New York City – NYU is the best place if you want real nightlife. You're in NYC and you can literally do WHATEVER you want. bars, clubs, raves, concerts, Hookah, lounges, etc. If you want it, its here.

Athletics: School Spirit – NYU is NOT a typical college. The campus is spread throughout downtown NYC. There is definitely a feeling of pride for attending NYU, but it is more for the individual. School spirit comes from a group of friends triumphing on a midterm or from having Steve Forbes speak in a lecture, not from sports games or campus events.

Guys & Girls: Take Your Pick – I played sports at a DI undergrad school. NYU is not a school devoted to athletics or frats, therefore, one is lacking in the "jock" and "frat" types and sorority women. If you look hard enough, you can find something befitting for all wants. What is truly attractive is that attending NYU is not just a continuation of high school groups, cliques, and structuring. So, for many, academia and personal growth flourish. And the city is at your finger tips, so access to others who are not students proves easy and interesting.

Diversity: NYU in located in NYC, but that being said, if one just huddles in The Village they are surrounded by one demographic. If they venture out of Williamsburg and the Village, they will experience just about every kind of diversity possible except rural or agricultural.

5 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: Athletic Centers – The options are endless. There is Chelsea Piers, Crunch, the on campus gym, dance classes/studios, workouts in Central Park, sailing on the river, intramural team sports - it is just awesome.

5 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: It's NYC! Probably the best off-campus food since NYU is located in downtown NYC. Foodies should definitely take advantage of Restaurant Week for a taste of upscale dining. St. Mark's is always a great street nearby for almost any type of food.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Mostly Weed – Lots of people smoke, but more often people want to go out in the city, and that means drinking

5 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Too Many to Count – Seriously, so many places, so many kinds of food, open late, student prices. Of course NYC can get pricey, but there's something for anyone from street food to fine dining

Technology: Plenty of Labs – For all the students at NYU, it's easy to find a computer if you know where the labs are. They have them in quite a few buildings around campus and in most of the dorms. Also, there's express printing in some of them to help move people through who only need computers for that purpose.

Academics: Unfortunately, I feel what often gets lost in these reviews is the thing we come to school for in the first place. While having the "college" experience is nice for some, it's highly overrated and, as a graduate student, I feel I can approach this forum with a slightly different perspective. I learned early during my undergraduate career that there is much more to higher education than drinking games, Greek life, and meticulously kept quads.

At NYU, if you're lucky enough to get in, your classes are likely to be led by instructors who are leaders in their respective fields. Many of them publish articles regularly, write books, and have a media presence. Whether you are at Stern, Steinhardt, Silver, Tisch, etc, this school has, hands down, some of the best academics in the world. You will be in a class of your peers and man of the people you go to school with are going to go on to do great things. The list of notable NYU alums is an impressive one.

You will have access to Bobst library, one of the largest university libraries in the country and an intimidating piece of architecture. At twelve stories, you can get lost in this fortress looking for books or trying to find a nice quiet place to study. The resources are endless here and if you need to get some research done, Bobst is an ideal place to begin.

Outside of Bobst, NYU's online resources are equally as impressive. Students have access to thousands of premier professional and research journals, full of up to date articles as well as many from years gone by.

Needless to say, I am happy with my decision to go to NYU. There were other options on the table when I made my choice and I'm certain I made the right one for the right reasons. For me, it was all about the education I would get here. Well worth the price-tag and some of the other minor obstacles one would face at any other large academic institution.

Diversity: Very Diverse – Just walking down University Place, you see that students at NYU come from very different backgrounds. I've encountered people of all colors, religions, and socioeconomic backgrounds. You really do get exposed to a lot of people outside one's original community.

4 College Freshman

Campus Food: Dining Halls Are Better Than I Thought – Although cafeteria food in general has its limits, NYU is pretty good at maintaining variety. The meal plan is a bit pricey, but it all depends on which dining hall you go to and at what time/day. Some dining halls make you get a set portion for your meal plan, but other dining halls are buffet style. All dining halls allow take-out because they know we are busy college students. All dining halls have vegetarian options, too. Many different cuisines can be found in all of them, such as Asian, Spanish, Italian, and American.

5 College Freshman

Campus Quality: A City Is Always Busy – NYU's campus is pretty nice when it comes to clubs and activities. Going to the fall club fest shows you that there are 100, maybe even 200 different clubs at this university. New York is a diverse city, so there are clubs on religion, frats, hobbies, sports, almost anything you could ever want! The Kimmel Center is a great place to hang out and most of the club activities occur there. There is also a nice gym a few blocks away from the main class building area. The Bobst library is also fantastic for studying, in almost any way imaginable. (Solitary studying, quiet studying, semi-loud studying, group studying, etc.) I also consider it the hyperbolic time chamber because I somehow get work done ten times faster in there. All in all, NYU's facilities are A+.

4 College Freshman

Academics: Biology Is Rough Here – NYU has great professors with great backgrounds and knowledge, but the curriculum is tough. It's a lot of work to take, especially if you're a freshman taking both biology and chemistry right away. But the heavy workload really helps you learn a lot in a short amount of time. Also, the instructors are usually looking for interns. And it's easy to find a job as a teaching assistant in the later years. Summer classes might be recommended, as it is hard to focus on all four classes and the city life sometimes.

2 College Junior

Greek Life: There is the option of Greek life at NYU, but most people don't go that route. There's so much more to the City than a sorority or fraternity that most people don't bother with it.

2 College Junior

Athletics: NYU has sports, but they don't invest in their teams like other schools. They are there for people who are interested, but aren't really a part of NYU life.

Campus Quality: There are many things on campus for student use, like 2 gym centers, multiple computer laps, a large library, and student centers where kids can study. To get into any NYU building you need a campus ID. Most of the campus surrounds Washington Square Park, and it's beautiful to just sit there between classes sometimes. But the downside? There's no REAL NYU campus, just a lot of buildings that are close to one another.

3 Recent Alumnus

Scholarships: Not Very Good – Their financial aid was alright, however the cost of the school is very high. The process of getting aide is also extremely impersonal.

Diversity: Though it is difficult for international student to get financial aide, there are still tons of them. There are also tons of different sexual orientations. NYU students are fashionable and not afraid to express themselves. I learned a lot about a lot of different kinds of people while I was there.

Technology: Their is wireless in almost all the dorms that is reliable. All of the buildings also have reliable wireless. There are tons of printing and computer labs, though they sometimes get busy with lines. Most of the computers at nyu (95%) are Macs.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

NYU offers students a taste of the hustle and bustle they will most likely encounter in the real world once they graduate. It is an overpopulated institution, so you have to be ready to fight to gain certain academic opportunities, but cultivating such a habit may serve as indirect training for new graduates when they have to go about securing jobs in their respective fields. Life at NYU demands a certain kind of disposition; thus, it is not for everyone. For students who love NYC and the challenge and experience it offers, it is an exciting and ever-changing community. For those who desire a community-rich college experience, NYU is lacking in that area. However, you can make an amazing experience out of what the school does offer. Whatever your choice, get ready for a mix of demanding academics and wild experiences in the city. Finding a balance between the two is key at this big-city school.

Many students claim that the best part about attending NYU is living in New York City, while other students complain about the school's large tuition. Most often, students are dissatisfied with the lack of a campus or school spirit, and many students believe that the institution is run too much like a business, with the school using millions of dollars to make NYU a global institution instead of supporting its current students. Otherwise, most students appreciate the various benefits of living in the city, such as diverse and exciting nightlife options, a broad range of cuisines, and prestigious and diverse internship opportunities.
