Local Area: Endless Fun – There is an incredible amount of things to do in NYC it's not even describable. Never a dull moment. Make sure you have some cash though!

Off-Campus Housing: Make sure you have roommates. Apartments in NYC are very expensive. I would just stay on campus.

Campus Housing: Living on Campus – All freshmen dorms are very close to campus. There are dining halls within Hayden, Third North, and Rubin. All are wonderful to live in. Brittany is being renovated (it was the worst). Hayden and Rubin are my favorites. 5 minute walk to Washington Sq. Park. The social atmosphere is what you make of it. Plus there is all of NYC surrounding you. Everything is pretty costly, it's New York. Excellent convenience for all Freshmen dorms and most Upperclassmen. All of the upperclassmen dorms are great! The housing process is pretty easy. Just pay attention to deadlines and get your health papers in!

Campus Quality: Best athletic centers, they have everything! There are 2 main ones and 1 more secretive one--all very good. Plenty of student centers for commuters or just kids on campus looking for a place to go. A lot of computers available. The biggest library in the nation. It's awesome. Ample campus activities. Basically, there is everything you could ever need.

Diversity: Open Sexual Orientation – Here in New York there are various sexual orientations and all are accepted so it is best to be open minded.

Campus Quality: The NYU Kimmel Center is located at the heart of Greenwich Village and is a great place to use computers and attend student club meetings and events

Administration: High Security – New York is surrounded by security guards and police officers so it does feel safe although it can be a little bit difficult when trying to go into a building or event.

Overall Experience: Diverse and Social Campus – New York University is great for social life, especially in a diverse crowd which is why a lot of students choose NYU over other schools, especially IVY league ones.

Technology: Wifi Extensive Availability – New York University has reliable wifi connection for NYU students that can be used at any of its campuses and even in the surrounded outdoor parks at times. It is however to rely on the campus wifi connection. Then there is always a nearby Mcdonalds offering free wifi connection as an alternative.

Weather: New York especially now has noticed a mixture of temperatures, some can be one day hot and one day very cold, although in the spring time it is getting warmer.

Drug Safety: New York Scene – New york is surrounded by drug and alcohol scene so it is good to know where you go around New York University and who you hang out with.

Campus Food: Food Stands and Dining Options – There are so many food options around New York University here from restaurants to food stands depending on your budget.

Off-Campus Housing: New York is very expensive to live in, especially New York University so that is why it is best to find an apartment to share with roommates in the New York City area or in another New York borough like Queens or Brooklyn as an alternative. New York University has an extensive off-campus housing database and another option would be to look on craigslist, where I found affordable shared apartments.

Majors: Access to Internships – NYU has the very distinct advantage of proximity and connections to companies and positions across every sector. As an undergraduate, I was able to intern on Wall Street and as a graduate student, I am looking forward to opportunities at the United Nations or another NGO.

Local Area: You're living in Manhattan, what else is there to say? Bustling city with an amazing night life. Go out and explore!

Academics: Rigorous but Fruitful – Because NYU is still rising in national rankings and attempting to make a bigger name for itself, academics are emphasized and rigorous. A positive note, however, is that the university's location helps bring in very talented, experienced individuals as professors, such as the Ex Foreign Minister of Mexico, a CNN anchor, Swizz Beats, and James Franco.

Administration: Not Bad – Although an RA will get you in trouble, they don't go out of their way to catch you drinking or smoking. Usually they only act when a compliant is filed by another student, when the noise is excessive, or when the hallway reeks of weed.

The punishments aren't horrible. The first offensive is just a verbal warning, followed by housing probation (like a written warning), which is followed by a drug or alcohol safety class. It takes about 3 times to be written up to jeopardize your housing rights. However, these rights can be severe, including your ability to study abroad.

Just don't be stupid and you won't get caught.

Off-Campus Housing: Apartment Hunting Can Be Daunting... but It's Worth It! Living in New York City is expensive. Although NYU has some fantastic on-campus housing, the rates are a little overpriced for the area as well as the size of the room. The vast majority of upperclassmen move off of campus, usually by their junior year. Finding an apartment in the crazy city can be one of the scariest things ever--- it can be hard to avoid rental scams, relator fees, etc. However, apartments are everywhere, and they are often cheaper than on-campus housing.

Majors: Broadway Baby! I have not had an internship while in college, but I know that it is a crucial component of my major in the future. As a Production and Design major in NYU Tisch School of The Art's Drama Department, there are many opportunities to get theatre internships and what better place for theatre than NYC? Many upperclassmen in my major have had fantastic internships both on Broadway and off, its the perfect place to be for theatre.

Party Scene: The City That Never Sleeps – It isnt difficult to find something to do in New York at night, while most clubs and bars are 21 and up, there are still many fun places for those under 21 to go. If a bar or club isnt your scene, there are tons of other things to do like see a Broadway show, or go to a concert. The possibilities in New York are endless, you will always find something enjoyable to do.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

NYU offers students a taste of the hustle and bustle they will most likely encounter in the real world once they graduate. It is an overpopulated institution, so you have to be ready to fight to gain certain academic opportunities, but cultivating such a habit may serve as indirect training for new graduates when they have to go about securing jobs in their respective fields. Life at NYU demands a certain kind of disposition; thus, it is not for everyone. For students who love NYC and the challenge and experience it offers, it is an exciting and ever-changing community. For those who desire a community-rich college experience, NYU is lacking in that area. However, you can make an amazing experience out of what the school does offer. Whatever your choice, get ready for a mix of demanding academics and wild experiences in the city. Finding a balance between the two is key at this big-city school.

Many students claim that the best part about attending NYU is living in New York City, while other students complain about the school's large tuition. Most often, students are dissatisfied with the lack of a campus or school spirit, and many students believe that the institution is run too much like a business, with the school using millions of dollars to make NYU a global institution instead of supporting its current students. Otherwise, most students appreciate the various benefits of living in the city, such as diverse and exciting nightlife options, a broad range of cuisines, and prestigious and diverse internship opportunities.
