Campus Quality: A Fit for a Certain Type – Nyu is perfect for the people that enjoy the unexpected. Parties are hard to count on, so you have to make your own fun, but then again, you're in New York City. Lost of fun events, concerts, shows, indie movie theaters, and then the occasional rooftop apartment party that seems to make living anywhere but ny not worth it.

Diversity: New York Is a Melting Pot – The diversity of the student body is not bad, but definitely dominated by whites, asians, and indians. The real diversity comes from living in the city, unbound by the "NYU" type. All types of religions and many non religious people.

Overall Experience: Great College Experience: Priceless? I love NYU. There are great professors, a plethora of opportunities for study and research, and tons of great things to do on campus. And how can you beat New York City? On one street you can find a Halal food cart, a Vietnamese restaurant, a scarf store, and a museum. There is a price you pay.
Its a school for rich kids... besides the hefty tuition, New York is expensive. Unless you are rich and don't need loans, don't even bother trying. NYU is a stickler about any kind of financial aid, and they do not work well with the government about securing loans for students. There is also a lot of red tape, I've spent many a day going between departments trying to get answers and it is nearly impossible.
If you are willing to pay the price its a great place.

Campus Quality: Not in New York City – They are good for what the space can hold. There are two athletic centers and comprehensive gyms. The pools are okay, but for the amount of students that attend NYU it doesn't seem like enough. Good effort but not perfect.
There is one main library, Bobst, but it is a great place, lots of great options, media, books, study spaces. Its a huge imposing building that makes studying less so. There are some other smaller libraries that are underrated but really beautiful, mostly at the grad centers.

Health & Safety: Good Security – always feel safe, they let everyone know what is going on. no lack of information

Transportation: I frequently commute using the train. It's pretty practical to use it in NYC. NYU also provides special bus services that are free to Students, but have limited routs.

3 College Senior

Greek Life: I'm not part of any, but I have friends who are part of the NYU greek life. Greek life in NYU is not very big, but very active. There are not Greek life housing due to the fact that the Greek life isn't as big.

Health & Safety: For the most part NYU is a safe place, there are security guards in every school. They are pretty strict about showing Id cards before entering the building, and If you call security they are quick to come or respond.

Campus Quality: Diversity at Its Finest – NYU is extremely diverse and they are super supportive of diversity as well. They have great events which show this. An upcoming event is Ally week - which is not just allies of the lgbtq community, but multi-cultural students as well.

Greek Life: There is a huge Greek life at NYU. Although I am not too familiar with it, they are housed in the same dorm I live in. There are penthouse options, and there is a points ranking system that determines which sororities or fraternities get to live in the penthouses each year. The groups host many activities in the dorms. I do not interact with them, though. They do not seem to cause much trouble on campus.

Campus Quality: All the facilities on campus are pretty great. We have two gyms which are very clean. The library is humongous. There are always activities happening on campus, in fact, too many to choose from!

Campus Quality: Diversity, Strong Academics, and More. NYU Stern's Finance Program is one of the strongest in the nation and many top firms come to this school to recruit students. We are centered in the vibrant city of New York with many night activities and a variety of cuisines for students to eat at. NYU is one of the most diverse schools in the United States accepting students of multiple backgrounds and those from other countries as well.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: It's Pretty Good – The NYU environment demands students to compete with one another. Many classes are stimulating and have engaged students who are willing to learn. Many professors demand students to actively ask questions and take participation into consideration of their grades. Many students would much rather prefer working independently than in a group unless requested of them.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Food: Pretty Good in General – The Campus Dining has pretty good food. There are a variety of places to get food, but sometimes, the dining halls are pretty far from each other. Other than that, you get different foods from different dining halls all the time. The food is a little pricy though if you do not have a meal plan. Many of my friends do not use up all their swipes.

5 College Freshman

Diversity: I swear to you there is every race at NYU. When they say they are diverse they're not lying, but most races stick together. An NYU Korean and an NYU Jewish kid have never met. This isn't the case 100% of the time though. I have White--all types, Asian (all types of Asians--so many Asians!), Black, Spanish--like Costa Rican, Mexican, Brazilian, Middle Eastern, Armenian. So much more.

Off-Campus Housing: Make sure you have roommates. Apartments in NYC are very expensive. I would just stay on campus.

Campus Housing: Living on Campus – All freshmen dorms are very close to campus. There are dining halls within Hayden, Third North, and Rubin. All are wonderful to live in. Brittany is being renovated (it was the worst). Hayden and Rubin are my favorites. 5 minute walk to Washington Sq. Park. The social atmosphere is what you make of it. Plus there is all of NYC surrounding you. Everything is pretty costly, it's New York. Excellent convenience for all Freshmen dorms and most Upperclassmen. All of the upperclassmen dorms are great! The housing process is pretty easy. Just pay attention to deadlines and get your health papers in!

Campus Quality: Best athletic centers, they have everything! There are 2 main ones and 1 more secretive one--all very good. Plenty of student centers for commuters or just kids on campus looking for a place to go. A lot of computers available. The biggest library in the nation. It's awesome. Ample campus activities. Basically, there is everything you could ever need.

Diversity: Open Sexual Orientation – Here in New York there are various sexual orientations and all are accepted so it is best to be open minded.

Campus Quality: The NYU Kimmel Center is located at the heart of Greenwich Village and is a great place to use computers and attend student club meetings and events

Administration: High Security – New York is surrounded by security guards and police officers so it does feel safe although it can be a little bit difficult when trying to go into a building or event.

Overall Experience: Diverse and Social Campus – New York University is great for social life, especially in a diverse crowd which is why a lot of students choose NYU over other schools, especially IVY league ones.

4 Recent Alumnus

Technology: Wifi Extensive Availability – New York University has reliable wifi connection for NYU students that can be used at any of its campuses and even in the surrounded outdoor parks at times. It is however to rely on the campus wifi connection. Then there is always a nearby Mcdonalds offering free wifi connection as an alternative.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

NYU offers students a taste of the hustle and bustle they will most likely encounter in the real world once they graduate. It is an overpopulated institution, so you have to be ready to fight to gain certain academic opportunities, but cultivating such a habit may serve as indirect training for new graduates when they have to go about securing jobs in their respective fields. Life at NYU demands a certain kind of disposition; thus, it is not for everyone. For students who love NYC and the challenge and experience it offers, it is an exciting and ever-changing community. For those who desire a community-rich college experience, NYU is lacking in that area. However, you can make an amazing experience out of what the school does offer. Whatever your choice, get ready for a mix of demanding academics and wild experiences in the city. Finding a balance between the two is key at this big-city school.

Many students claim that the best part about attending NYU is living in New York City, while other students complain about the school's large tuition. Most often, students are dissatisfied with the lack of a campus or school spirit, and many students believe that the institution is run too much like a business, with the school using millions of dollars to make NYU a global institution instead of supporting its current students. Otherwise, most students appreciate the various benefits of living in the city, such as diverse and exciting nightlife options, a broad range of cuisines, and prestigious and diverse internship opportunities.
