Off-Campus Dining: A Variety of Eats – The best part of NYC's restaurant scene is the range of different restaurants. When it comes to type of food there is a plethora of choices ranging from familiar to exotic. There's the standard burgers and pizza, but also things like Thai or Greek. Price? If you're on a budget you could choose to spend as little as $1 on a slice of pizza. If you feel like splurging you can get a $10 cupcake from Crumbs. Your taste buds will never get bored.

Technology: Computer Labs Review – Most of the computer labs at NYU work fairly well. They're all Mac-equipped and have multiple printers. You can also bring your laptop and connect to the network to print as well. Just be prepared to wait for a computer or to use a printer around midterms and finals; the labs get crowded quickly.

Scholarships: The Process Was Okay – The university responded well and offered generous aid

Academics: Great Diversity and Knowledgeable Professors – I am in the liberal studies department and will transition into the psychology department end of sophomore year and so far so good. My profs have been absolute masters of their subjects and provide very good feedback and encouragement in my studies and classrooms.

Off-Campus Dining: NYC Is Food Heaven – You can find great places to eat no matter what your budget or tastes in New York. Around NYU there are a lot of really great places to eat but, don't be afraid to venture outside your comfort zone. I like to look up restaurants on Bing or google and then just have an adventure and go find it and enjoy a new culinary experience. What's also great is if your ever shopping in the Chelsea Market make sure you stop to eat at some of the amazing eateries there. There is a really good gelato shop and bakery there that I love to indulge myself in.

Diversity: Huge International University – There are people from all around the world at my school which is really amazing to experience. In my first year alone I met and became friends with people from 8 different countries. There are a lot of white people as well, but that's a given just about anywhere nowadays. Overall, really great diversity here.

Campus Housing: All Dorms Are Okay at Best – All the dorms at NYU aren't as nice as students think that they should be considering that it is a very expensive private university and yet the furniture in the dorm rooms are hand-me-downs are very used. However, the plus side is that the locations are good and the buildings themselves have a lot of amenities.

Weather: Extremely Hot, Extremely Cold – I've lived in the North east all my life but you don't know suffering until you have to live in a dorm the first few weeks of school when it's so humid and hot with NO A/C. Although the winter wasn't so bad it was still very cold. So definitely bring the appropriate clothing for each season.

Guys & Girls: Look Around – It's hard to find someone on campus, but if you integrate yourself into the city you are bound to find someone! The 60/40 ratio is sad but true... even my computer science class was all girls except two guys.. and one was gay.

Local Area: Something for Everyone – Nyc is quite literally the place for anyone and everyone. There are restaurants serving cuisine of everything culture, museums with pieces ranging from famous paintings and sculptures from the renaissance to modern installations. Comedy clubs, karaoke, exhibits, parks, fairs and festivals are at every corner. Shopping is unbelievable and if you're smart and alert, you'll be safe if the city that never sleeps.

Parking: IT's NYC - a Car Isn't Needed! There is so much stress in college . . . don't add hours of parking hunts and tickets to your drama.

Off-Campus Housing: It's NYC Housing – Plan early. Choose whether to live like a college student as a professional or live like a professional as a college student. Money will be spent eaither way; prioritize.

Diversity: Tall, short, skinny, fat, hipster, bro, gay, straight, man, woman, anything. You are going to find it at NYU. New York in and of itself is a melting pot and NYU is just a condensed version. It is really impressive how great the diversity of NYU is. There are people of all shapes, sizes, colors, and orientations and you never have trouble meeting someone who is not from your heritage.

Off-Campus Dining: If you can't find it in NYC, it doesn't exist. New York has anything from 100% vegan, to amaing pizza, to finest of fine dining. You will never be lacking if you are searching for a place to eat. If you want cheap, you will find it. If you want a date, there are a million perfect places. My food guru is Yelp!. They give reviews, prices, hours, and sometimes discounts. The world is your oyster on Manhattan!

Overall Experience: Debt and the City – Living in NYC and attending NYU have been amazing. The city has such an energy that makes you want to live life to the fullest. There is always something to do, people to see, places to go. Sure, socially, NYU is difficult because when you go out, you are going out to clubs and bars rather than to big frat parties with other students. That can either be a pro or a con though. It just depends on what you want from your college experience. The one blaring, prominent downside of NYU is the cost. When I graduate, I will be facing a debt of over $150,000 which is frightfully daunting. My recommendation is when you are deciding on NYU, do not forget the cost and make sure you can either pay for it, or that the debt is something you are willing to deal with.

Transportation: Available Within a Few Blocks Nearly Anywhere – There is always transportation available. Thanks to the campus transportation shuttle, you can be picked up late and night and dropped off at your residence. During the day, trains, public transportation buses, as well as NYU buses are all running consistently. For commuters, a 5-20 minute walk to classes is guaranteed after exiting any station unless running

Local Area: A Charming Attractive Neighborhood – Washington Square Park is one of the special oases in the city. With beautiful nature, and an abundance of talented artists. The area is very NYU-friendly. Other than students walking around to classes and tourists, the area and its people are quite reserved.

Transportation: NYU has free shuttle buses that are very excellent and almost always on time. they leave you in front of the fairest dorms and there is one that goes up to the langone medical center.

Majors: Lab Research – as a biology major i have a paid internship in one of nyu genomics labs. best job yet!!

Majors: It Takes Time – The film major at NYU can be intimidating, but stick with it. Once you get over your fears, you actually begin to enjoy yourself.

Drug Safety: Drinking Is Popular in NYC – With bars, clubs, and pubs abound, students have a lot of choices as far as drinking goes. NYU does crack down on underage drinking at the Freshman Residence Halls, upperclassmen (anyone not a freshman) are allowed greater leeway into drinking on campus and in the dorms. Drugs are also used as well, although alcohol is the most common type used.

Guys & Girls: Girls Are Everywhere – With NYC as your "campus," students at NYU aren't only limited to the dating scene at the school, but essentially have people from all walks of life and all ethnicities at their doorstep. The girls at NYU range from everything you can possibly think of. Great school with some great people. I love it here!

Overall Experience: NYU has a variety of activities for students whether it be sport tae kwon do to the chess club. Opportunities for research are definitely present. Food is also great. Living in the city is an amazing experience in and of itself, but with NYU's tuition being one of the highest in the country, you may find yourself second guessing your decision to attend NYU at times.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

NYU offers students a taste of the hustle and bustle they will most likely encounter in the real world once they graduate. It is an overpopulated institution, so you have to be ready to fight to gain certain academic opportunities, but cultivating such a habit may serve as indirect training for new graduates when they have to go about securing jobs in their respective fields. Life at NYU demands a certain kind of disposition; thus, it is not for everyone. For students who love NYC and the challenge and experience it offers, it is an exciting and ever-changing community. For those who desire a community-rich college experience, NYU is lacking in that area. However, you can make an amazing experience out of what the school does offer. Whatever your choice, get ready for a mix of demanding academics and wild experiences in the city. Finding a balance between the two is key at this big-city school.

Many students claim that the best part about attending NYU is living in New York City, while other students complain about the school's large tuition. Most often, students are dissatisfied with the lack of a campus or school spirit, and many students believe that the institution is run too much like a business, with the school using millions of dollars to make NYU a global institution instead of supporting its current students. Otherwise, most students appreciate the various benefits of living in the city, such as diverse and exciting nightlife options, a broad range of cuisines, and prestigious and diverse internship opportunities.
