Parking: Cars are useless in New York City. There is no space to park.

Party Scene: Nightlife at NYU is very enjoyable and memorable. Students go out to outside clubs and have fun. But for those who drink, it is always good to drink responsibly to avoid trouble out there. Most clubs are tolerant to those who are 21 and over. Transportation back to the campus is convenient during reasonable hours.

Local Area: New York city is a very attractive city. It has many celebrities who are in the music industry, and this creates bliss to music lovers and those who wish to become musicians. Shopping is enjoyable mostly to the rich, because the cost of living in New York is very high. People in the New York communities value students because New York University is a very reputable university worldwide.

Scholarships: The financial aid process is very stressful. It is difficult for international students to get financial aid. International students are not eligible for federal financial aid. I am yet to receive a considerable amount of financial aid.

Here are the tips to get financial aid:
- demonstrate the need for financial need
- excel in academic studies
- excel in sports activities

Majors: There is a lot of help and support if you are pre-health.

Weather: It's NYC...I personally don't mind the different weather.

Technology: There are definitely enough computer labs and the printing service is great.

Off-Campus Housing: Manhattan apartments are small and pricey, but you can't beat the location; everything is easy access. NYU has an off-campus housing listing, but other websites are often more useful.

Parking: There is no need for a car to access New York City. However, since I commute to school, whenever I have gone to campus, there has always been a spot available within a few blocks of the school.

Guys & Girls: Ha good luck girls. If you're gay you'll probably have an awesome time here, same for straight guys. Unfortunately the closer you get to campus the uglier males become. It's New York City so in theory if you work hard enough you could probably find something. Girls are mostly pretty though, so have fun competing with that.

Greek Life: Greek life is basically non-existent at NYU. There are a few frats and sororities, but you can't have houses because we live in the city. They generally throw parties at bars or clubs and sometimes, apartments.

Transportation: All of the buildings on main campus are within walking distance of each other, so you don't need public transportation unless you're leaving the village. However, if you are, you have an array of options, such as the subway, bus, and taxis. The only reason I wouldn't give transportation an A+ is the price. It costs $2.25 per subway ride.

Guys & Girls: Typical students are typical hipsters. There are more girls than guys and many of the guys are gay so I think the ratio should be adjusted to more like 80-20 than 60-40. If you are into artsy, studious, musical type guys (not so much the all-American, athletic, outgoing type) and wavy haired, ipod-clad girls in short laced boots then NYU is the place for you.

Academics: The academics at NYU are pretty strong across the board. You can find professors in all subjects who practice what they teach and pass on the knowledge well.

2 College Freshman

Campus Quality: NYU has a campus located in the heart of the city and many of the buildings reflect the city-style. The buildings that have not been recently updated are in serious need of updating. The gym closest to Washington square has no air conditioning and the residence halls need to be redone.

Campus Quality: NYU has some really nice buildings that are brand new but the older ones are REALLY old. Coles gym doesn't have air conditioning at all and the buildings that haven't been updated need it.

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: Just fill out the FAFSA on time, never had a problem receiving financial aid.

Greek Life: Greek life exposes you to new experiences but it's not really too big of a deal if you join one or not.

3 College Junior

Administration: I feel protected but if one really wanted to break any such rules... there is no real way to stop one from doing so.

5 Recent Alumnus

Party Scene: There's always something to do, beware if you really want to focus on your academics.

2 Recent Alumnus

Greek Life: Good number of groups to choose from, not a big presence on a campus though. The Greeks pretty much hang out with only the Greeks.

5 Recent Alumnus

Local Area: Studying in New York City will be one of the greatest experiences you will ever have.

Technology: Some computer labs have ANY software you might need. Depends on what you look for.

Off-Campus Dining: New York City restaurants are available to you any time. The food around the area is alright.

2 College Freshman

Scholarships: I was one of the few that received financial aid, but it was few and far between. No matter how much aid you get, it probably won't help that much, though. Especially when tuition is upwards if $60,000.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

NYU offers students a taste of the hustle and bustle they will most likely encounter in the real world once they graduate. It is an overpopulated institution, so you have to be ready to fight to gain certain academic opportunities, but cultivating such a habit may serve as indirect training for new graduates when they have to go about securing jobs in their respective fields. Life at NYU demands a certain kind of disposition; thus, it is not for everyone. For students who love NYC and the challenge and experience it offers, it is an exciting and ever-changing community. For those who desire a community-rich college experience, NYU is lacking in that area. However, you can make an amazing experience out of what the school does offer. Whatever your choice, get ready for a mix of demanding academics and wild experiences in the city. Finding a balance between the two is key at this big-city school.

Many students claim that the best part about attending NYU is living in New York City, while other students complain about the school's large tuition. Most often, students are dissatisfied with the lack of a campus or school spirit, and many students believe that the institution is run too much like a business, with the school using millions of dollars to make NYU a global institution instead of supporting its current students. Otherwise, most students appreciate the various benefits of living in the city, such as diverse and exciting nightlife options, a broad range of cuisines, and prestigious and diverse internship opportunities.
