1 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Rarely are students allowed to get off campus housing and if they are it's a nightmare of a process. It's not worth it. Just get an apartment in Dort or Goldstein and stay there.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: You have to be approve to live off campus and the process is frustrating. You are on your own from there, but many people make it work and like it.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: I've never lived off-campus, but I've been to other people's places and they seem to be alright. The general consensus among students is that living off-campus is superior because the cost is significantly lower than living on campus, and it allows students to be free from the shackles of the Housing Office.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: It's difficult to get off-campus housing, but I've heard it's worth it.

5 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: Houses are passed down from generation to generation. Some well known ones are: Jungle House, Bayshore House, Pup Haus, Maps House, and Flop House

Most Novo Collegians choose to live on campus. For those who would like to escape the tightly-knit community, some options are available. The most luxurious of these options are the houses on Bay Shore Road that have been historically rented out to students by owners. Bay Shore Road is a gorgeous, upscale street that cuts through New College. Located on it is the Ringling Museum of Art and numerous residences that appear on the National Register of Historic Places. This neighborhood features homes that are typically a mere block or two away from the bay and have backyards replete with charm. Living off campus in one of these houses is almost like living on campus, due to how close they are.

Unfortunately, these options aren’t always available, and they require multiple students collaborating to share rent. When this is the case, apartments in Bradenton are sought after for their low prices and proximity to campus. Commuters often report alienation from campus events, but some prefer the anonymity and privacy. With the exception of some local houses, large student gatherings tend to take place in Palm Court. Accordingly, the choice to leave campus is often the choice to leave the New College social pipeline.
