Administration: The campus police are generally very helpful and they are there to help you above anything else. Although I've heard a few students complain about one particular officer. if you are stupid with your alcohol/drug use obviously you are going to get busted, but if you are discreet (put it in a cup etc) then they're not going to do much. Although who knows how much that is going to change after the events towards the end of last semester, graduation 'PCP' hardy existed and apparently there were cops everywhere... I can't confirm this though, I didn't really leave my dorm. The police were very helpful in dealing with one legal issue I had on campus.

Administration: The school is pretty lenient when it comes to drug and alcohol policy, which is good, but there is a currently a task force that is reviewing the drug and alcohol policy due to recent events. Things should be somewhat different next year, if not drastically different (which i doubt).

Administration: Policies are very lax and many people experiment with substances.

Administration: It's honestly okay. I wish the students could do hard drugs out in the open, and that we didn't need to file event request forms just to throw a party in a public area, but it honestly could be worse.

Administration: They seem to be pretty reasonable - they will answer your calls promptly and they just try to make everyone safe. You never really see them around the dorms so they're pretty lenient, they do patroll around campus, just for safety.

New College operates under the assumption of possessing intelligent and responsible community members. There is quite a bit of social and individual self-policing involved. However, the "New College bubble" is not hermetically sealed, even though it might seem so at times. Students are encouraged to report suspicious outsiders. There are no student curfews and very few regulations enforced in the dorms other than a "no pet" rule and fire codes. Many students report feeling safe and secure on campus because of the trust they have in their fellow students. When an outsider defaces New College property or harasses a student, the campus will unite in outrage.

New College of Florida’s mission is one that trusts the individual, and it is a student-centered campus. The administration takes grievances seriously when proposed by the student government. Rules are created in the most direct democratic fashion possible for an institution of higher education. The campus provides a very safe environment. Few incidents occur, the most common being bike theft. As long as this trend continues, the student body will retain power over the affairs of its education and lifestyle. This freedom is rare and nearly impossible to obtain at other schools.
