Campus Resources: I like the library, the staff is very friendly and helpful. I hope we will have more campus activities in this spring semester and clubs should have more activities as well.

Online Courses: I have taken over 10 courses online at my current school. Each experience has been different. I wish there was a forum for (only) students to discuss their experiences with teachers online. It would save a lot of time, and also prevent mishaps in certain courses.

Career Services: I have yet to experience anything in this field at the moment. But, it's ironic that I have received more help from others' advisers and not the one I was assigned.

Campus Resources: My school has their annual events, just as any other school does. But, I think because it is a community college no one feels the need to present more activities, and/or interactions between students.

Tuition & Financial Aid: If a student chooses to take online courses, versus on-campus, there should be a discount in tuition per credit-hour. Online courses at this school are almost equivalent to self-teaching. There are no interactive sessions (such as web camera class sessions/interactions), and everything feels so impersonal. Students are teaching themselves at least 85% of the semester when taking online courses. There are also a few "associate professors" who do not have a professional sense about their jobs. I have witnessed teachers using incorrect grammar, and even saying inappropriate things to a student they may have become frustrated with.

Student Body: I believe there are some great teachers, and also intelligent students. But, the school seems a little detached from their student's needs at times, and are sometimes unwilling to assist in the manner that an individual may need.

Online Courses: I didn't take online courses

Academic Flexibility: I love all my ESL classes because I am second language in this country.

Academic Flexibility: I feel like classes offer great academic flexibility because if you cannot take a class during the day due to scheduling problems, you can take classes at night if your schedule allows it. The transferring credits were tricky in that not all my credits I thought would transfer ended up transferring.

Student Body: I think there is some ethnic, economic, political, religious, and sexual diversity. Despite the diversity of the student body, there can be challenges that face gender and a particular race.

4 College Senior

Online Courses: I think the professor and students have a one-on-one relationship which helps bring a professional and personal impact on the relationship. The professors overall genuinely care about the other students. The workload can be manageable depending on how you schedule your classes.

Career Services: I thought the career center really prepared you for what it will be like in the real world and helps you put your foot in the door to increase job prospects.

Overall Experience: All are fair enough for what the school is.

Student Body: The campus is very diverse in regards to students and staff, but the students don't seem to be so intelligent. Always asking the same questions or asking something that the teacher previously clearly explained as they are puzzled by it (i.e. a homework assignment or a change in the syllabus).

3 College Senior

Tuition & Financial Aid: The tuition seems to be fairly priced in comparison to other comparable schools in the area, but I don't feel as if I'm being stimulated much in the classroom - it's as if I'm better off teaching myself from the book and not wasting my time going to class to listen to the professor (This doesn't apply for all courses - only a few).

3 College Senior

Campus Resources: I'm certain there's not an athletic center, but all other categories seem to be sufficient.

4 College Senior

Academic Flexibility: all of my professors seem to be very flexible, but I've had no experience with transferring credits.

College Senior

Career Services: I attend a community college, so many it's most common that people are only attending for associated degrees or attending for prerequisite courses, then transferring to larger more noteworthy schools.

3 College Senior

Academic Flexibility: I'm in the RN program. The classes are not flexible. You're expected to work your life around there schedule.

Tuition & Financial Aid: Cannot receive student loans after reaching 90 credit hours. This is very inconvenient.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

It is important to note that every student's college experience will differ from others in some fashion. However, Nashville State has worked with the Tennessee Board of Regents in creating the Tennessee Transfer Path. This project was to ensure that every student who graduates with an associate degree from NSCC will find the transfer process to state schools fairly easy, as all classes taken at NSCC should transfer to other Tennessee Board of Regents schools. In this respect, all NSCC students transfering to a TBR school will find that their experience in earning tranferable credits was quite similar. Nashville State professors try to prepare students for the next journey in academia to the best of their ability, and students report that their overall experience was very positive. However, advisers at this institution should inform future graduate students who wish  to transfer to a larger university that they should research and visit larger colleges to reduce the culture shock that comes with transfer process.

Students graduating from Nashville State Community College will find that what they miss the most will be the intellectual conversations and experiences they shared with their peers and professors. The personal environment that is nurtered at NSCC will have a lasting impact on students who tranfer to larger university settings. Alumni often stay in touch with professors who had the greatest impact on them and who were willing to go above and beyond the call of duty to help. The overall experience at this institution should be very positive for those students who wish to work hard and participate in academia.
