Off-Campus Housing: The school recommends that students live on campus all 4 years. This isn't a problem as most Seniors and Juniors get singles. There aren't many apartment options for moving off campus, and most students choose to enjoy the wonderful dorms for all 4 years.

Technology: There are many computer labs with printers in the libraries on campus, as well as a handful of desktop computers and a printer located in each dorm. I would not recommend bringing a printer on campus as each student receives money to use printers in the library. You can also print for free in the printers in the dorms (provided that you use your own paper).

Administration: Staff members, various Academic Deans and CA's try to enact fair policies regarding academics and dorm life.

Academics: The workload at Mount Holyoke can be intense if you don't know how to manage your time. My friends who attend state colleges and less exclusive liberal arts colleges brag about being "able to only spend around 2-3 hours on homework per night". Needless to say, this is not something to expect at MHC. Women who attend Mount Holyoke know what they are getting themselves into, and expect to be pushed and challenged academically.

Health & Safety: The campus is very safe, and students typically feel completely comfortable walking alone at night. It is rare that personal electronics/bikes get stolen, but in these instances campus police is more than happy to assist.

Scholarships: I'm mainly here because of the amazing financial aid package I was given.

Diversity: Diversity is probably one of the main things that Mount Holyoke does incredibly well at (except for political diversity). There are a few Republicans, but they are not very vocal.

Diversity: Its diverse, but does have its own problems that are blown up and amplified by the sensitivity and political correctness of the student body. If you are racist, homophobic or intolerant, do not come here, people will not find it "funny" or be afraid to confront you.

If you are a republican however, do not come here because no one at this school is.

Economic diversity is a little worse, but still ok.

Athletics: We have a lot of athletics, nothing very high tier, but some good ones. Sporting events pull groups of people who go to see their friends attend, and since this is a small campus, that is a fair crowd.

Transportation: The PVTA runs often and its free for 5 college students!!!! Its best to have your own car, but there are many ways to get around.

Weather: Winter is truly truly horrible and you have to be prepared. The spring and the summer are gorgeous, and this campus comes alive during those times, but the weather is dismal in the winter.

Administration: Stay quiet, and you can do what you want. Make your choices loud and obvious and you will be shut down. Students who do not like noise or smelling weed do not hesitate to narc, and often call campus police directly instead of talking to a CA.

Off-Campus Housing: There are some apartments off campus available to seniors.

Party Scene: Its not that its not fun sometimes, because it is, but its just a little lame. Dorm parties are fairly dull and uniform and are usually either very very gay or are for straight girls to pregame before they go off campus looking for men.

Parties thrown in the campus center almost universally suck, but parties thrown in Chapin auditorium can be somewhat fun. Drag Ball is a good, quirky, queer time and certainly embraces an amazing piece of MHC's unique culture, and the parties thrown by MCHASA have amazing music, a more "party" feel and attract lots of guys.

Just know a couple of things about this place. A: the party scene on campus is predominantly queer, if that doesn't jive with you and you want to meet men, be ready to go off campus. B: Expect no true ragers on this campus. You can find them at other schools, but the few that have happened here have been outliers, rather than the norm.

Health & Safety: I feel very comfortable walking alone on campus due to the safety precautions set by the Campus Police.

5 College Freshman

Campus Housing: The rooms are very large and each student gets a very large closet to themselves.

Diversity: Each individual hails from a completely different economic and social background that contributes to the diversity on campus.

Majors: The History Department is incredible and the professors are so knowledgeable about their subjects.

Majors: There are internships available everywhere. However, transportation is the only issue I've found.

Scholarships: They were willing to match my scholarship that I had from another accredited university!

Drug Safety: There is a very refined atmosphere here at Mount Holyoke and very few people subject themselves to these influences.

Athletics: The women here are very supportive of oneanother and the facilities are free and very, very clean.

Transportation: The PVTA system is free and easily accessible, however, the school is relatively isolated from the other towns.

Administration: The guest policy for guests could be a little more lenient, but otherwise it is a fair policy.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

It seems that students come to Mount Holyoke for the academics and stay for the community. Women who come here either quickly discover that they hate it and transfer out, or fall in love with the school and become unable to imagine going anywhere else. The overall sense students have about the College is that it’s more than just a school, and it’s more than a place to study for four years, get your diploma, and be set free—MHC becomes a second home. Its close-knit environment allows students to explore their own boundaries in safety, perhaps try on a few lifestyle changes, and maybe even find a few that stick. You will undoubtedly be exposed to new influences during your time here, as you would at almost any college, but here, you won’t be afraid to call some of those new influences your friends—especially the ones who scared you at first.

Part of what’s so wonderful and unique about this school is the sense that students are really cared about as individuals. Sure, it’s an institution, and sure, there are the occasional oversights where the Registrar forgets to record a grade or some such thing, but most faculty and staff are exceedingly helpful and willing to assist you with whatever difficulty you may be facing, whether it’s a decision to apply to grad school now or later or a mistake in your transcript. The atmosphere of care is contagious—new students quickly catch it from older students, and so the tradition lives on. Things are changing for this institution, as it strives to keep up with modern times and struggles with budget cuts resulting from a bad economy, but it still remains the school generations of women have known and loved, and alumnae still keep coming back to visit and reminisce.
