One might be surprised by how much of a breeze parking is on campus. It’s so little of a hassle that some students take advantage of it and spot-hop from different parts of the campus. Freshmen register for decals early in the semester, and students may pick one up at any point in the year. Every year the design is retooled, and new ones are distributed. The two parking offenses taken most seriously are parking in a fire lane, for obvious reasons, and parking in a handicapped zone, which will get you a hefty $100 fine.

There are rarely any strictures on parking within the dorm areas. Ezelle, Galloway, New South, and Greek Row share a lot. Goodman basically has apartment parking, which is huddled and difficult to use. On the north side, it might be easy for young students to resolve themselves to parking close to the gate—there is little contact with the other reckless freshman drivers there, little conflict over spots, and a lot of saved sweat over finding a spot.

Getting a Parking Permit
All students, faculty, and staff are entitled to decals. The one problem that you might have is that security, who provide and regulate the parking, will occasionally require that you cannot go from one side of campus to the other if your decal only applies to one of them. For instance, a freshman might not be able to park on the upperclassmen side for a party. Or an upperclassman might not be able to park on the north side to take the short walk to a sports game.

Any ticket can be appealed before an SBA council. If you do appeal it, you will be asked to meet the council, discuss the issue, and possibly be relieved of your responsibility to deal with the ticket.
