2 College Freshman

Transportation: It is possible to get off of campus, but unless you have a car, it's not easy. There are school run shuttles to the airport for breaks, but they're typically pretty inconvenient with when they're run. The same goes for shuttles to the snow bowl. To go anywhere else requires booking a car service (expensive), or having a car. There are zipcars on campus (I think), but they're pretty much unused (really not sure why).

Transportation: Either nonexistent or horribly run.

2 College Senior

Transportation: Transportation to and from the airport is extremely costly, and Burlington is hard to get to without your own car.

Transportation: The local transit system has three stops on or near campus and all the buses have bike racks. All are free.

Transportation: We're Isolated – During the day, people mostly just walk everywhere possible, including into town because it isn't far at all. The problem mainly arises when people need to get away from Middlebury. Buses run to Burlington, but the schedules can be finicky and it's kind of a pain. It's definitely easiest to have a car. At night, getting around campus is really easy because the college runs a free shuttle until 2am. Midd rides are the best.

Although the lack of public transit is frustrating at times, most students don’t find it a real hindrance. The town of Middlebury is very small, so it is easy to walk to pretty much anywhere in town. Aside from walking, some students choose to use the public shuttle buses, but most end up borrowing a friend's car or renting a Zipcar.

For long-distance transportation, getting a ride home or to the airport with a friend who has a car is your best bet. The shuttle to Burlington, Middlebury Transit, or another local taxi or airport shuttle company are your next-best options. During school breaks, Middlebury College has buses that transport students to and from NYC or Boston. They are pretty convenient but can be a bit pricey. Overall, Middlebury just isn’t a transport-savvy place, but it doesn’t really have to be. Students are used to walking and helping each other out to compensate for the dearth of public transit.
