3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: This is my first semester living in off-campus housing and it's not bad. Some of my roommates act like they don't know how to clean, but it is a friendly environment.

Off-Campus Dining: It's not amazing but there are many options and provide great deals and food at a reasonable price.

3 College Freshman

Administration: They reinforce certain rules. It's like they ignore what they want to ignore.

2 College Freshman

Scholarships: I can barely find scholarships or ways to earn them around campus. I have to pull loans every semester.

College Freshman

Party Scene: Basically, I'm not a big party person. I don't go to parties, but I go to activities like Life Groups.

4 College Freshman

Campus Food: It just depends on who is behind the food. Other than that, the food is awesome. I wouldn't eat it everyday, but it's fine. The only place I refuse to go to is the POD (provisions on demand). They sold me expired carrots.

Campus Housing: It's okay. It's not as wonderful as I thought it would be, but I can't complain.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: There's not a ton of variety but there's enough options to satisfy. The area is also growing when it comes to healthier options but there is still much to be desired. However, local dining and fast food sometimes does offer discounts to students.

Local Area: The area is friendly and beautiful. People can always find something to do either in the area or by taking a quick trip up to Nashville.

Academics: The academics here are great as long as you let them be great. If students do not take advantage of studying opportunities then things will be harder but the teachers are generally helpful as long as the student is trying. Workload can be rough but that depends on student time-management skills as well. The library has great hours with people willing to help students as well though.

Health & Safety: It's safe and comfortable during the daytime but it does get rough in the outer parking areas at nighttime. There's times where students are being notified of assault or robbery three times a week or not at all. I wouldn't walk by myself at night in the low traffic areas of campus.

3 College Junior

Greek Life: I don't know much about Greek life except that most of the girls in sororities look alike. They're very cliquey.

4 College Junior

Majors: It's a philosophy program. You kinda just show up and do it.

4 College Junior

Majors: My program is poorly funded but has some of the smartest minds in the field.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: MTSU is very much a state university in every sense of the word...Jack of all trades, master of none. There are high quality academics at this institution but they are pitifully-funded.

2 College Junior

Campus Housing: It's really probably in your best interest to explore off-campus options.

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: MTSU is a state university in every sense of the word. Jack of all trades...and master of none.

3 College Junior

Campus Food: There are plenty of options. Trouble is, most of them suck.

3 College Junior

Guys & Girls: I don't really care so...yeah, there's that I guess.

5 College Junior

Academics: Despite being a small program, some of the best teachers in the world are at MTSU

4 College Junior

Academics: As with all things, MTSU has some really popular programs, which unfortunately, due to the power structure, causes some of the more solid academically-oriented fields to be lamentably underfunded.

4 College Junior

Diversity: In general, MTSU is a sort of oasis of tolerance compared to the surrounding areas.

4 College Junior

Campus Quality: MTSU's campus is fairly good, all things considered.

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: For certain things, MTSU is great. Otherwise, it is, on the whole, a mediocre state university, with all the negatives associated therewith.

2 College Junior

Administration: The structure of this school is less a democracy and more an bureaucratic dictatorship in many ways.

Not everyone is keen on the town of Murfreesboro, but almost everyone loves MTSU—it's a safe and rewarding environment. One key to a stress-free experience here is to plan ahead so you're not running late for class all the time. Stress can be tough, and a few stitches in time can help you avoid a lot of headaches. Once students graduate, many seem to leave with a bigger impression of the people who helped them learn, rather than the actual material they studied. Lots of students also comment that they have made great friends at MTSU and are grateful for the experience and opportunities. There is something for everyone in Murfreesboro, and if you make an effort to look around the corner, you may find the solution to a problem you didn't even know you had. The outdoor environment around MTSU is personally rewarding. There are local parks everywhere and major state parks as close as a 30-minute drive in any direction. Anyone who chooses to become active in outdoor pursuits will not be let down. Between the inspiring Tennessee landscape and the technical and logistical assistance from MTSU, an outdoor enthusiast can enjoy wonderful experiences here.

Remember: If you ever need help while you're here, all you have to do is ask. The faculty and staff at MTSU want nothing more than to see you succeed. Your success reflects upon them and enforces their purpose in teaching. Your teachers can also be your best networking tool when it comes time to look for a job or internship, so when you find professors you like, take other classes with them, and really get to know them—you can go far.
