4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: During Orientation Week at Tech, both current students and faculty alike help ease the transition into college in the small town of Houghton where many are used to larger suburban areas. Already, without taking one class, I have met with my chemistry adviser twice and a humanities adviser once and it was clear that their door would always be open to me. The outdoor environment and the interaction between professors and students are what drove me to love Tech. The professors will do as much as they can in order to make the students realize their potential and the difference they can make in the community.

Overall Experience: Michigan Tech has challenged me greatly to improve myself and to work hard at my grades. In High School I never needed to develop good study habits since classes were easy for me. Just in my first year, I was challenged by exams at college level and taught myself how to study. What I truly love about MTU is the number of places I can go to get help or support if I am struggling to keep up. Most of the staff and fellow students are very friendly and are glad to help other students out. Also the number of organizations up here is staggering. It is easy to get into a group of like-minded people and share interests.

Overall Experience: I think that is awesome that there are so many driven individuals are my school.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Tech has proven to be a fantastic school that really does set up its students to succeed in the real world. They make living up in Houghton an enjoyable experience. The professors, while tough, do really know what they're talking about and give you access to whatever resources you need to do well.

Overall Experience: since I will be transferring to Michigan Tech in Sept I really don't have any experience yet.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: I absolutely love Michigan Tech. Its a big school with lots of opportunities with small class sizes so there is lots of one on one time with teachers and advisors. It is a very challenging and serious environment so a student should be ready to handle the workload before applying to this school. I love the hands on, research, and project oriented learning this school has to offer. However, the administration isn't the best and a student has to be very self motivated to get any forms/financial aid/classes taken care of. Its a beautiful area as well!

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Great for students serious about their education

3 College Senior

Overall Experience: MTU has winter carnival which is great. But overall the professors have been terrible and difficult to deal with.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: MTU is a smaller, niche school. Typically people that go here are there for Engineering or different sciences. The campus is compact, making it easy to cross from one side to another. I love the colder weather, but the several hundred inches of annual snowfall is a bit much. I love this school, it's like a home away from home because it seems like everyone knows everyone and it feels like you can name quite a few people via first name only.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: The academics and research oppertunities are great, minus terrible grad student teachers, disgusting prison food (literally), and terrible debt.

Off-Campus Housing: Got to find the best places early and be careful on the utilities.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: There are plenty of dining options.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Food: There is a lot of variety, but they have to cook or get better quality food and not worry about quantity.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: The housing and the price of the food is really high.

3 College Senior

Administration: Work with students, not against.

4 College Senior

Scholarships: Had to submit extra information each year I did a FAFSA. I felt like I was being audited.

4 College Senior

Campus Food: Good value, more locations closer to Walker please.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: There are plenty of old mining houses available but they fill up quickly so you have to act fast.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Its nice if you have a car.

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: Have not personally sought out parties, but I hear they are pretty good.

3 College Freshman

Administration: They are alright at enforcing the rules.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: They have a decent amount of scholarships, you just have to be persistent and don't be afraid to call more than once to try and get any extra aid you can.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: The food is alright, sometimes they have good meals. The cafe and library can make up for some of the food options.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Good environment and buildings have good maintenance staff

2 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: If you don't have a car, you will probably only go off campus to eat very few times. The stuff downtown is within walking distance, but it's somewhat expensive. There are some chain restaurants by Walmart but you have to get there first and it gets repetitive going to Applebee's all the time for half off apps.
