Party Scene: The weekends here are the best. Lots of parties and the bar scene is lots of fun. Drink specials every night of the week.

5 College Freshman

Party Scene: Parties have a great impact on your student experience. Most bigger parties are hosted by frats but theres an occasional party held by an independent house or team.

Party Scene: If you want to party on almost any given night of the week, you can party. If you can't find a party the bars are open every night, and every night of the week a different drink special or something to entice you to come out on a Wednesday night when you have a class at 8:30 the next morning.

5 College Sophomore

Party Scene: Parties first semester are always great, huge and open because the frats don't rush until second semester, and they need to make the freshman want to join their frat. Once second semester comes around, it gets a little bit harder to find parties if you're a boy, but for the most part its never that hard to find a party on the weekend if you know the right people.

Miami is known for its nightlife and is called a "party school" by many. And, in many cases, this is an accurate portrayal. If students wanted to, they could go out every single night of the week and have something to do and somewhere to go. There are more than a dozen bars in uptown that provide a different scene for each type of student. There are also frequent house parties and fraternity parties hosted at nearby off-campus homes. In the spring when the weather gets nice, day drinking on Saturdays is very common.

In general, students typically go out Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights; however, there are enough nice uptown restaurants if you’re looking for a more low-key and relaxing night out.

Organization Parties
Fraternities and sororities often rent the upper levels of uptown bars and clubs to host mixers, crush parties, and other activities. Other student organizations also rent rooms in bars to host parties. Sometimes, academic clubs hold meetings at cool locations, like Buffalo Wild Wings or Mac & Joe's.
Did You Know?
  • Green Beer Day is a local tradition celebrated every year on the Thursday before Spring Break. Bars and clubs open at 5 a.m., and students begin drinking green beer at the crack of dawn, continuing well into the night. True, there are St. Patrick's Day celebrations everywhere, but Oxford takes this one seriously. The event has been going on since at least the early 1950s-though no one's exactly sure when it started-and it's evolved into a really organized and widespread event.

Skipper's Pub and Top Deck

Skipper's caters to a primarily student crowd-it boasts a large patio and great cheese fries. Top Deck, which takes up the second floor of Skipper's, is often rented out to frats or sororities. Drinks aren't the cheapest in town, but Skipper's is usually packed nonetheless.

Steinkeller German Eatery & Pub

Between the Bavarian food, the imported beer, and the impressive decor, Steinkeller genuinely feels like a German pub. It offers German food and traditional bar food (hamburgers and such), but everything tends to be a little more expensive here. If you're looking for good or rare beer, Steinkeller's the place to check out, but if you're looking for a cheap domestic, you're better off somewhere else.

15 E. High St.

Oxford

(513) 524-2437

Brodie's Bar

Formerly Hole in the Wall, a bar with pool tables and live music

13 W. High St.

Oxford

(513) 523-0018

Brick Street Bar

A popular bar and restaurant, Brick Street is also Oxford's primary music venue (it's occasionally a piano bar, too). There's typically no cover, but more popular groups will probably command higher ticket prices. The bar itself is a former movie theater, which only adds to the ambiance. Brick Street is the largest bar in Oxford, and it's a popular hangout for Miami students and Oxford residents.

45 East Bar & Grill

East Bar is your traditional, run-of-the-mill sports bar, with good wing and drink specials on certain nights.

45 E. High St.

Oxford

(513) 523-3737

Mac & Joe's

Mac & Joe's borders on being a dive but really isn't. Another primarily student-oriented bar, Mac & Joe's is one of Oxford's most popular places-the bartenders and staff are always friendly.

CJ's

Even though this is a dive bar, there are good drinks and fun people.

Buffalo Wild Wings

A national chain, BWW offers good wings at rather expensive prices. They do offer alluring specials on weekdays, though.

What to Do if You're Not 21What's This?

Many clubs in Cincinnati are 18-and-over, so students can go there. If you aren't the drinking type, Miami hosts special student activities every Friday night as part of a program called Miami After Dark. These activities include movies, arcade games, concerts, ice cream buffets, comedy shows, and many other forms of alcohol-free entertainment.
