Majors: The psychology program is perfect. The classes are fun and interesting. The workload is very manageable and the professors are very helpful and easy to talk to if you have questions.

Majors: I love my major. It is so interesting and the teachers are great!

Majors: While I've never had an internship, I know that I'll need one to complete my minor. There are many resources to help you find one.

Party Scene: The nightlife at Miami is always a lot of fun. There many bars and clubs that are 18 and up as well as 21 and up for those who don’t want to be so crowded by teens. There are always those nights when maybe you want to do something but not drink which is why Miami has an abundant amount of restaurants on the same strip. There are a lot of enjoyable places to attend.

Weather: The campus is very big so when it is cold it is hard to walk to school. The local weather defiantly has a negative effect on my campus experience. When the weather gets nice this spring it is very pretty and nice to walk on the campus.

Academics: I am currently a student at Miami University and I am majoring in nursing. The nursing program can feel unmanageable and difficult at times but I am getting through it with the help of my professors. Many of the professors at Miami come from the field in which they are taught which in turn helps students have a better learning experience and hands on opportunities. There are many unique aspects of the program, one being competiveness of the program. The workload is tremendous but also helpful and useful in everyday life. The curriculum is based on the Miami plan which sometime can be a waste of time. There are many opportunities given at my Miami one just needs to seek them.

Weather: Its cold in the winter but spring comes quickly and its beautiful here in the spring.

Parking: A lot of people have cars so parking is tight. There are parking garages though and a lot of small parking lots.

Campus Food: The dining options on campus are diverse and excellent, and cheap especially at the buffets and with your meal plan. The buffets cover all the food groups, with fresh fruit and salad available. The markets also carry a wide variety of common things you can find in any grocery store, as well as others not so common. The food is great!!

Drug Safety: I've never seen drugs being used, but I also make a point of not being around that crowd anyways. I also don't drink. Yes, you can fit in even if you don't drink until you're 21.

Guys & Girls: While a lot of people are rich/wear preppy clothes, not everyone is like that. My family is in NO way rich, and I wear jeans and a t-shirt most days, and I have fit in just fine and don't feel out of place. I love Miami and am totally happy here.

Campus Food: Personally, I think the dining on campus is excellent. There are so many different options of food that Miami offers. We have a Italian-like restaurant on campus that takes meal plan, there are also salad bars and you can chose fruits, vegetables, nuts, cheeses and dressings on your salad. We also have stir-fry, and mexican choices on campus that all take your meal plans. There are also markets that sell snacks and microwaveable meals that take meal plan money.

Campus Quality: Miami campus life is involved. There are so many student organizations that you can get involved in and fulfill your interests. We also have a variety of dining halls that offer many choices to the students. Currently our Student Union is under construction, but it will be amazing when finished.

Campus Quality: I love the faculty here at Miami. People told me that your professors will always be there to help and I didn't believe them. But they are, if you have a question teachers have office hours and can be flexible around your time. Miami also has tutoring and writing centers which are free and very helpful. Miami also has a variety of organizations that you can get involved in.

Drug Safety: I would say that I rarely hear about any drug activity that goes on here at Miami, it isn't that big. If people are doing drugs they might just be smoking, drinking is more popular among campus.

3 College Senior

Parking: If you plan on staying on campus there is not a whole lot of need for a car on campus because it's easy to access everything by bike or walking. However, it can be expense to buy a pass and the lots are usually far from campus. There is a bus system to help, however. Parking services are very strict and you will almost always get a ticket if you park illegally.

Guys & Girls: There are definitely quality guys and girls at Miami. Every graduate is going to make a difference in the world but not particularly during college. They usually like to party a lot and look good. The guys aren't yet boyfriend material but there are lot of other students here that really care about where they are going and what they are doing. They are typically not supportive of the athletic teams at Miami.

Guys & Girls: Miami is a place for attractive people. The girls are absolutely gorgeous and the guys are pretty muscular. Miami has an awesome Rec where most students go to stay in shape. People also dress nice, especially for going Uptown where the night life is very lively. Greek life is also the majority at Miami.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: There are tons of really good restaurants Uptown. Which always have amazing deals going on and some even except Mulla which is an account where you can put money on your student I.D. card. Skippers has a special called the Monday burger where you can get a burger, waffle, fries and a drink for $5.30. Also Will's pizza has a deal during the late night where a slice of pizza is only a $1.50.

Parking: Permits cost quite a lot of money per semester, but as you progress you get better permits giving you more available parking spaces. Do not try and park without a permit or paying for a meter, they will find you. Oxford is a small town, which makes it hard to illegally park. On the plus side though, the need for a car on campus is relatively small, you can get from any one side of campus to the another within about 15 minutes. There are some loopholes to the system though. There are a few streets by Heritage Commons that do not have any parking meters or signs so you can park there for free if need be. Also, if you plan on getting past the system do not buy a permit, by not buying a permit you are not putting your car or self into Miami's parking system, and if you park illegally on Campus, you may get a ticket but they would have no way of collecting the money as they do not know who are are, but obviously this does not work in Oxford itself.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: Hockey has the lagest fan base while other varsity sports fall behind. Many are involved in intramural sports, however, like broomball or soccer.

5 College Sophomore

Local Area: Miami has tons of attractions, such as bars, clubs, and social places. The night life is very lively at Miami, and there are always a large number of people going out to Uptown. Going to Miami hockey games is something you cannot miss. Miami is very safe when compared to other schools. There are a number of shops uptown to go shopping and if those are not enough there are several malls just about 45 minutes south of Oxford down in Cincinnati.

2 College Sophomore

Diversity: Miami tries to be diverse, but they have lately just been drawing in large groups of Asian students that never interact with the majority of white, conservative students. Many different people represent Miami, but they almost never come together and overlap.

Technology: There are lots of labs and several different libraries, some even that few know about. You don't have to get a certain computer, and you have the choice of a PC or Mac in each lab/library. Printing is easy but you need an account on your ID to pay for it, and it's always hectic in the mornings/hell week

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: The housing situation at Miami really depends on the individual. If you want to be close to the Rec, Goggin, and a couple awesome dinning halls then South Campus is the place. Most of the dorms in the South Campus are freshmen dorms so making friends in your grade and classes is rather easy. North Campus is where the athletes are, and the dinning hall is not very good. Eastern Campus has awesome dinning halls and is situated in the middle of Miami. Western Campus is more secluded and has its own dinning hall. A negative aspect of Western is that it is far from uptown, classes and pretty much everything besides Western.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

There’s an old saying that goes, “You can make a big school small, but you can’t make a small school big.” The overall experience at Miami University is different for every student, but most seem to have enjoyed their time here, and most will agree that the former part of this statement is representative of Miami. Miami is not a huge school, but it is large enough to feel like a big university without being overwhelming. It is essential to find a niche when you arrive; otherwise, you may get lost in the shuffle. One of the best ways to determine if you will like Miami is to take into consideration what is important to you in a school and to really weigh your options. Visit the campus and ask questions—this is the next four or five years of your life. If Miami does not fulfill an important need you have, it probably isn’t the school for you, and there are people here who feel like they don’t belong.

Nobody enjoys school 100 percent of the time, but the students at Miami have a plethora of options, both social and academic, at their doorsteps. At Miami, you cannot be afraid to try new things, talk to new people, or grow as an individual. However, this is true no matter where you decide to attend college. Overall, the most important fact to take away from this guide is that most students feel that they made the right decision in attending Miami.
