5 College Junior

Majors: Mechanical Engineering fits my life perfectly. I love math and figuring problems out (I also have a Math minor). I really don't worry about my grade other than to get higher than a D and teachers would prefer it too, in the sense of wanting students to "understand the material" rather just past a class and move on. Having 3.0 gpa I obviously take doing well serious and my best always.

Health & Safety: Compare to home (Cleveland, Ohio) Miami does provide what I personally would consider "extremely safe" environment that allows me to conduct myself in a worry-free/"I-don't-have-to-look-over-my-shoulder-everyfive-minutes" places. Back home it isn't the best idea to walk around (let alone by yourself) past, say, 9pm. Here, I pull all nighters all the time and can safe walk to and from my car, in the parking garage, or even across campus to my dorm when i did live on campus.

Campus Housing: Rooms can be to condensed for two people to share/live in. Beds are older a squeak with every movement. They are, however, building new/updating all older dorm, making them more energy efficient and of better quality (finally). But nothing I'm sure that's any worse/better than most colleges.

Athletics: Sports and fittness in general is a very important part of campus life. Many students are applying to Miami Uni because of sports.

Off-Campus Dining: There's really not much off-campus dining that's "exciting" except for uptown. Most of the restaurants are good, but they're very expensive.

Local Area: Oxford is on of the most beautiful towns I've been in. There's not much to it, but the scenery is amazing.

Greek Life: I'm not in greek life, since I'm a first year. I've heard most of the girls are pretty stuck up, but it just depends on which sorority you want to be apart of.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

There’s an old saying that goes, “You can make a big school small, but you can’t make a small school big.” The overall experience at Miami University is different for every student, but most seem to have enjoyed their time here, and most will agree that the former part of this statement is representative of Miami. Miami is not a huge school, but it is large enough to feel like a big university without being overwhelming. It is essential to find a niche when you arrive; otherwise, you may get lost in the shuffle. One of the best ways to determine if you will like Miami is to take into consideration what is important to you in a school and to really weigh your options. Visit the campus and ask questions—this is the next four or five years of your life. If Miami does not fulfill an important need you have, it probably isn’t the school for you, and there are people here who feel like they don’t belong.

Nobody enjoys school 100 percent of the time, but the students at Miami have a plethora of options, both social and academic, at their doorsteps. At Miami, you cannot be afraid to try new things, talk to new people, or grow as an individual. However, this is true no matter where you decide to attend college. Overall, the most important fact to take away from this guide is that most students feel that they made the right decision in attending Miami.
