3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I like that it is a decent size school with great people. It is just a great place to be and learn and make new friends

Off-Campus Housing: There are many trailer parks. Which if you can afford it that is the best way to go. Its cheaper and you can buy a trailer instead of throwing money down the drain!

4 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: Just dont run to the chain restaurants. Lake Charles area has many places that you have to find. Darrel's is a must for a poboy. Louisiana is known for its food for a reason. Also the seafood is the best.

5 College Senior

Administration: Never had a problem with the. The ones you have to watch out for are the exchange students because they pay them to write parking tickets.

4 College Senior

Campus Food: I like eating at the coffee shop. Has good food for not a bad price.

3 College Senior

Campus Housing: I do not know personally what it is like to live on campus but i have friends that love it.

3 College Junior

Administration: Parking violations are closely regulated, almost everyone I know has gotten a ticket at some point.

4 College Junior

Campus Food: Starbucks is my go-to; the one on campus is the quickest and best. Einstein Bros. has great sandwiches.

4 College Junior

Scholarships: Once my FAFSA was taken care of, my school handled the rest with almost no assistance from myself. Very helpful staff.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: You need to find someplace close enough that you can walk if you have to.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: It is mostly fast food.

4 College Freshman

Administration: The campus is pretty secure. Especially when it comes to parking. They will literally ticket you even when barely anyone is still at school.

Scholarships: If you are an international student, don't expect to get aid. This school only give aids to citizens or permanent residents even if you have better grades and scores.

3 Recent Alumnus

Scholarships: The process takes place in many buildings on campus. For first semester freshmen, and often really after, the process will lead you all over the place. The staff that were familiar with the process were incredibly helpful, however many of them were unaware of paperwork and so you would be led to several buildings and offices for a piece of information. It was a hassle but it was not impossible to maneuver. Best advice would be to have a friend tough out the adventure with you, if for no other reason than emotional support.

Campus Food: The cafeteria is, well, a cafeteria and therefore the food is not as spectacular as any of the smaller food stops which make your meal for you at the moment you order. This cafeteria had fantastic days where they served full meals, and fresh fruit; other days there would be no bread and stale rice served. Thankfully, on those off days, there were other options. My only other critique would be timing; residents would find themselves fighting their schedule and dining times often enough, and many of us found it annoying.

Campus Housing: The housing process and staff were the most difficult part of campus residency. Much of the problem was from the methods in place for payment, scheduling, and so forth. The overall experience and ease of access absolutely offset the negatives. The dorms had a great establishment for both introverts and extroverts, the campus active and passive student. Residing on campus is a must as a college student, and this experience helped cultivate social skills and my overall college experience.

Greek Life: Depending on the organization you're a part of, the Greek life is a great part of the community. Most of the sororities help foundations such as the Make A Wish foundation. I am not familiar with fraternities other than the parties they throw.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: The athletics at McNeese are fairly good. We have a huge wellness room, which is a gym, that is available to students for free. Our school spirit is good and students love to attend sports events and cheer the cowboys on.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: I am not very familiar with off-campus housing because I have not experience that.

Off-Campus Dining: Off-campus dining near school is easy to access. There are a few fast food places, but they don't have many healthy choices. There are student centers like the Newman club, The Wesley, The PCE, and the BCM that off free lunches or paid lunches. They are convenient and have home cooked food that is very good. I haven't tried to use student discounts but I don't think they places around school have that choice.

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: The financial aid process is fairly easy. All you have to do is fill out your FAFSA form and it's mostly taken care of. The financial aid office workers are rude and usually act like the student should already know the answers to the questions they ask.

Party Scene: I don't necessarily engage in the party life as much as I used to because studying consumes my life, but when I did they were fun. They usually have parties somewhere every weekend and even sometimes on week days. They usually take place at apartments near campus where students live alone or with a roommate. I think parties are good to get stress out but they are also a huge distraction to studying habits.

Campus Food: I don't usually buy food on campus because it's pretty expensive. There have been times that I do get lunch there and the food is very good. There are a lot of choices including Einstein's, the cafeteria, and sometimes free meals that certain organizations give out. There are healthy and unhealthy choices in the cafeteria, I try to stray from the unhealthy ones. I don't have a meal plan because I don't live on campus but if I did, I would be eating at school a lot more.

Off-Campus Housing: there is lots of variety. Cost can be reasonable for some properties. And the safety can sometimes be an issue.
