4 College Sophomore

Technology: Their are computers in every study lounge with printing capability. Every building has wireless. Network reliability is good, it is being updated this summer.

4 College Freshman

Technology: I can use my laptop outside anywhere on campus and have connectivity

3 College Sophomore

Technology: We have great technology and opportunities but the network and wireless connection is a shot in the dark every time you log on.

4 College Sophomore

Technology: There are always computers available but it is the wifi that is a little harder to get especially if you live in towers...

3 College Sophomore

Technology: The wireless needs to be fixed. The dorm I'm in now sometimes takes 10 minutes to load a Google page on my laptop. I can't upgrade to the newest 5G or else I have to pay an obscene amount of money. If there was a way to fix it so all Luther students can have a great internet connection that would be wonderful. Sometimes I can't get my homework done until late because of the internet connection.

Computers are as essential as books, paper, and underwear at Luther College. Technologically speaking, Luther doesn’t often set the curve, but it isn’t lagging behind either. The computers will all do basic things, and many of the Mac systems in the library or the Center for Fine Arts will do things like graphic design, DVD-movies, and professional recording. The campus e-mail system and KATIE learning management system are essential to any class, so check them often. Spam filtering and virus protection are also provided to all students.

Luther offers its library catalogue and resources to anyone with an online connection, with many journals and subscriptions available by logging in. It’s a great way to do research in your dorm room if you’re working on a term paper. Many seminars on technology, especially as it relates to careers or majors, take place and are somtimes mandatory for certain classes. Students will also get most major announcements regarding holidays, campus events, security briefs, and campus news in the form of e-newsletters, although these are easily deleted. In short, a student who makes the effort to learn and take advantage of the available tech resources will find all the tools needed right at his or her fingertips.

Did You Know?
You can check your e-mail almost anywhere on campus between classes. In all of the main academic buildings, Luther features computers set up in common areas, all open without an access key. The computers will do nothing but run Internet, so you can check your Facebook account, but you won't be able to print off that last-minute final.
