4 College Freshman

Greek Life: Can't wait to go through rush myself!

3 College Freshman

Athletics: Not the greatest, but still fun! No football team

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: Hampden- Sydney always has something going on right up the road!

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Mostly chains and fast food, but there are a couple of great local places to go as well!!

3 College Freshman

Administration: Pretty average! The only issue with administration that i've ever had has come from the Parking department.

2 College Freshman

Scholarships: Issues that are still being worked on...

4 College Freshman

Campus Food: For the most part, the food isn't bad at all! After transferring from another school with TERRIBLE food, D-hall isn't truly that bad! I wish there were more healthy options however!

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I lived in one of the off campus apartment complexes and they are incredible! So spacious and equipped with everything that I needed. Quick five minute walk to campus and a great environment to live in. I'm living on the same hall next year!

2 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: There are really only fast food options. Farmville is such a tiny town that having lots of sit down or nicer restaurants would be difficult to keep in business especially when students aren't there like in the summer or on winter break.

4 College Sophomore

Administration: I have never had an issue with strictness. They take things seriously when it is necessary but I have never seen them be overly strict or unnecessarily punishing.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: Getting it set up was difficult as well as getting questions answered.

1 College Sophomore

Campus Food: There are few healthy options and not much variety. If you live in campus housing, you MUST have a meal plan. This is very inconvenient considering I live off campus. The food in the dining hall isn't very good either.

Campus Housing: I have had a great experience living in campus housing. I live in a campus managed apartment now which includes an outdoor pool and gym. The RAs plan many social events to get the residents together. The only downside is the distance from campus, but there is a bus service provided to transport to and from campus if you don't have a car.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: Most people live in Sunchase or Walk to Campus properties when they don't live in Longwood Managed housing, but because longwood has a lot of options under their managed housing facilities, not a lot of people live off campus

3 College Junior

Party Scene: Our party scene is pretty hit or miss. Sometimes it's amazing, and sometimes not enough of a variety of people go out. The campus is not the most diverse by race or gender so sometimes outside people have to come in to liven things up, and no one seems to know how to dj at open parties

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: There are mostly chain food stores and that's about it. There are a few mom and pop shops not far from the campus, but they are usually fairly expensive. The town pretty much dies after sundown making it hard to get late night food without having to drive, especially when the bus system stops at 8

3 College Junior

Administration: Our school isn't that bad about enforcing all the policies. However, Attendance and parking are common complaints. Campus police do not always take sexual assault victims seriously and make light of the situations often.

4 College Junior

Scholarships: As long as you fill out your FAFSA before the priority deadline, the office of finanical aid is usually fairly flexible about finding a way for you to get the money you need, and they are very easy to talk to and work with.

2 College Junior

Campus Food: The food is rarely warm, and the combinations are very hit or miss. The amount of times that you will eat grilled cheese, pizza, and cereal because of a lack of better options is ridiculous.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: First year students are better off in curry and frazer. the proximity to the gym, dining hall, and Mcdonald's make it very convenient, however they are the least renovated and usually most dirty dorms, but the sense of community is unbeatable.

Off-Campus Housing: I don't personally live in off campus housing but I know many people who do and I've been inside a fair share of the houses that are offered. The houses in general are pretty nice, assuming you take care of them. A lot of times, especially if it was previously a fraternity house, it could be in a not too good condition, but it's college housing...what else do you expect? You usually have to furnish it yourself, pay monthly rent (utilities not included), and deal with the Walk2Campus system which is apparently quite difficult and bothersome. Some of the perks to off campus housing is that they'll take the trash cans to the front for you, they'll often repaint the house and redo the floors, and you can have pets (which you can't have in any longwood managed housing).

Off-Campus Dining: Farmville is a tiny town in the middle of nowhere. There's mostly chain fast food restaurants with a few sit down restaurants. We have McDonalds, Chick Fil a, Moes, Taco Bell/Long John Silver, Bojangles, Cookout, Wendy's, Ruby Tuesday, Applebees, El Patron, La Parota, Huddle House, a few hibachi options, Charley's, and Macados. There might be more, but that's what I can remember. If you want good food, I would recommend Macados. It's somewhat pricy and the service isn't the best but the food is excellent.

Party Scene: The GDI party scene here is relatively ok. Before I went Greek, I usually ended up at Delta (DTX) or the Rugby house because those were the two houses that usually had consistent open parties. Occasionally you can find an open party at Theta Chi or Sigma Nu. Most of the houses that have parties have closed parties with sororities and don't open up to the general population until about 11 PM or Midnight, depending on the night. Yik Yak is a good resource to use to find out when parties are opening up and what's going on. If you want to have a consistent party scene, I'd recommend going Greek.

Administration: The main concern at Longwood is the safety of you and those who surround you. The Longwood PD is not out to get students, they just want them to be safe. I know that a lot of people, especially in freshman dorms, drink in the dorms. As long as you're not blatantly obvious about it then it usually isn't all that big of a deal. RAs would rather not do paperwork filing reports so they'll usually just tell you to stop unless it truly is a problem. I know a ton of people that do drugs here. As long as you're smart about it and don't do it on campus and in public it's usually not a big deal, just take the steps to make sure that you don't get caught. Weed is the most prevalent drug on campus but I've seen pretty much everything here at one point or another. Alcohol is a given. On any given night you'll see at least a handful of people stumbling around drunk. As long as you're being smart and safe about drinking and drugs, you'll be ok.

Scholarships: I never had any issues with the financial aid. I did the FAFSA and Longwood sent me my financial aid package. It was simple.
