3 College Senior

Local Area: Its a small town. Its has improved over theyears and I would stay if I had a well paying job.

Local Area: I like the town of Galesburg; there are nice parks and enough attractions to keep one occupied. It's not a cultural mecca but considering it's a country town it does alright. The Carl Sandburg Home is here, and a railroad museum. There's Discovery Depot for kids (many students volunteer here) and the Orpheum to see theatre. On the far north of town there's a movie theatre; you'll need a friend with a car to take you unless you bike well. Lake Storey is pretty and has camping; Knox also gives students access to Green Oaks for camping; it's out of town though. Shopping is limited, there's a Target and a mall but it's not full of options. Some of my suite mates would take trips to Peoria to shop there. The Quad Cities also attract a lot of bigger concerts and shows. Most of Galesburg is safe; there are some sketchy patches to the west of campus. But I feel safe here. With a good job I could see myself here. I've heard reports that townies aren't always nice but I think that's not true because every person I've told about Knox has been incredibly supportive. Though I do volunteer work and work in the public schools. The key to a good town/student relationship is getting out of the so-called "Knox bubble".

2 College Sophomore

Local Area: Only public transportation is few small buses which only come once in every 30 min. Life is hard without a car. Few restarents are in walking distance, but crappy. Only shooping place for girls is walmart, target, or thrift shop. Oh yeah, and Amazon.com. I wouldn't have survived without it. They have old but quite decent thratre in downtown.

Local Area: I do not leave campus very much. The town is small

3 College Sophomore

Local Area: I personally really enjoy Galesburg, but many do not. Galesburg is a small, rural town, so if you're used to or are looking for a party town, this isn't it. There's plenty to do (movies, theater, bowling, lovely restaurants, fun shopping, etc), but this definitely isn't a city, and it doesn't really have a mall. It's a quaint little town, and not enough people realize that before getting here and deciding that they want to go to a club Friday night, but there's not really clubs they're looking for in Galesburg. There is stuff to do though, and the people of Galesburg are lovely and friendly, in my general experience.
