Greek Life

5 College Sophomore

Greek Life: I'm in a sorority and I love it; it's one of the only reasons I've stayed at Knox. Some frats are better than others, but only because they're better, not because they're inherently good. They all have way too many sexual assault trials against them, and they all have issues with being on sopro (social probation) where they can't throw parties. At least one of the frats does haze, even though Knox claims strict anti-hazing policies. They are all so different as organizations, honestly, and only a few are typical frats. Sorority life is amazing, though we can't live in the house.

Greek Life: Greek life is a cancer at Knox. I only say 'It's okay' because it's fairly typical of comparable schools. Fraternity members throw horrible parties consisting of lights and top-40 music and have never followed chapter alcohol policies (literally not once, and I attended these parties for four years) and regularly sexually assault women. They do almost nothing for the hurting community of Galesburg (one frat would donate a few bucks to the Wounded Warrior Project occasionally, which does fine work, but has very little to do with those struggling at home). Sororities are fine, women do not live in their houses and they don't host parties (although they probably should, given how bad and full of alcohol poisoning and sexual assault the frat parties are). I hope the school takes steps to stop its number of fraternities from continuing to poison campus life.

Greek Life: The greeks makes sure everyone is included in their events on campus. Everyone is welcome and there is an anti hazing policy on campus, which is great!

Greek Life: You are not pressured to join in either a fraternity or sorority. Greeks and non Greeks get along well. They do have good parties. I was rushed my freshman year, but did not have the time. Heard about incidents of hazing at other colleges an universities but did not hear that the same was going on at Knox.

Greek Life: Only the Fraternities have special houses. The cost isn't too terrible. There are some requirements such as GPA to get in and a certain number of hours of community service that a member has to do.
