The Kent area provides the vibrant "college town" atmosphere that is typical of many a Midwestern college, but the presence of amenities of larger nearby metropolises makes for a rather ideal locale. The town of Kent is best described as "quaint," with its abundance of local, independently-owned shops and eateries. Though it's probably seen better days, the town possesses quite a bit of charm for those willing to seek it out, and the University and local officials have recently taken significant steps to improve attractions in the downtown area and strengthen the University's connection to downtown.

Regarding available entertainment, the student population is a diverse crowd to cater to, but whatever is not offered in the town of Kent can likely be found in one of the more nearby urban areas. Some complain that too many local students head home for the weekend, leaving a lack of life on campus. While this has been true in the past, there have been concerted efforts by the University and organizations to increase student involvement and keep students on campus and in town on the weekends. There is always something to do, and with a little effort, students can keep themselves entertained in Kent for all of their years there.
