5 College Student

Athletics: Other then the volleyball arena, the sports complexes are the best I have been too. They are up to date and I love seeing a game especially at the new football complex and baseball facilities.

5 College Freshman

Athletics: K-State takes football seriously. The whole town of Manhattan transforms on Saturdays during football season. Tailgating is a huge fan event and students all walk down to The Bill (Bill Snyder Family Stadium) together. Basketball is a big deal, but football is a bigger deal; more people attend conference basketball games (particularly the KU game) than the non-conference games. Students are eligible to buy several tiers of passes for games— ICAT football & basketball combo, GA football/basketball combo, or GA football only. Sophomores and up and buy ICAT passes (better seats and two shirts included). The Pride of Wildcat Land (the band) is a MUST see.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Fan support is always there. We all love to cheer on our wildcats. The community comes together and its such a good time.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: The school spirit here is great. You can definitely feel the family vibe.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: K-State football; what more can I say?

The influence exercised by the football program at K-State is truly epic in scope. When the team wins big games, it's like Jesus coming back. This zeal by no means fizzles after graduation; alumni snap up season tickets, and watch parties are organized by spirit clubs everywhere from Alaska to Florida.

Though football often upstages other sports, it is by no means the only player on the scene. The equestrian team and women’s volleyball have made quite a name for themselves. Women’s rugby games, too—though, chronically underattended—are well worth a watch. In addition to this, intramural and club sport participation is mammoth. How many colleges can lay claim to parachuting and inner tube water polo teams? Even nonteam players are not immune to the prevailing mentality. Come mid-March, the campus sidewalks bloom into kaleidoscopes of spandex.

Most Popular Sports
You have to ask? The devotion with which football is followed here borders the religious. Students who generally remain physically conjoined to their mattresses until noon can be sighted ducking into shower stalls at 7 a.m. in the event of a mid-morning home game. Their loyalty is not without foundation. Since Coach Bill Snyder took the reins in 1988, the team has rocketed from a bottom-of-the-basement embarrassment to a resident powerhouse of the Big 12. Basketball probably qualifies as number two, but the perennial mediocrity of the team prevents the onset of a similar fanaticism.

School Spirit
There are only so many places where you can speak of Purple Pride with a straight face. But such is the dedication of K-State's student fan base: They're loud, they're proud, and they're oblivious to the overtones accompanying an apparel store known as the "Cat's Closet." They're also everywhere—football is a way of life here. When it comes to academics, the sense of pride is less marked but still present. The University's major claim to fame in this department is its place in the national fellowship-distribution rankings—a statistic the administration and a few of the more self-satisfied students cite at every available opportunity.

Best Place to Take a Walk
The Quinlan Natural Area, a strip of woodland winding along Petticoat Lane, is one of the best-kept secrets on campus. Soothing and secluded, it makes for ideal introvert territory, complete with babbling brook.
