Majors: I'm currently in an internship and appreciate it immensely. While money is almost always a hardship when it comes to internships, as long as one picks the right internship for themselves the experience is always valuable for building background and experience in ones desired field.

Academics: The curriculum is great; very flexible so you can pretty much take whatever you want. The workload is pretty heavy but there are lots of resources you can take advantage of if you need help.

Campus Food: Over the summer, the campus dining was completely redone and a new food company was hired. There are now many more healthy options and the food quality is much better overall.

Guys & Girls: Since I'm a girl I can only speak from that perspective but I think the guys here are generally attractive and nice mannered people. I'm not sure how likely it is that you'll find your soulmate here but there are some cute guys you could def date.

Off-Campus Dining: Hopkins has recently switched vendors so I can't speak about the new vendor but I know the old one was not that great and lot of time the food was not that great and definitely below sub-par. The food options as well got very repetitive and some things just were tasteless. It was basically a hit or miss for me on the food. Hopefully this semester the food will be much better.

Technology: There are really nice computers with great wifi and reliable printers whenever you need them but generally get very crowded during the day or especially during midterms. But since everyone has their own laptop you should be fine, and I've always managed to be able to do everything I need to do in the library in a small enough amount of time.

Local Area: Baltimore is not a big town but it is pretty dynamic. We have couple of different schools located in this town. Peabody music school, Bloomburg Engineering school, plenty of student activities that are always going on.

Off-Campus Dining: Not many fast and healthy choices in this area. Plenty of fine restaurants though, not affordable for a student to have dinner there every day. Got Wholefoods there thouth.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Students who love Hopkins and students who hate it both recognize that JHU isn’t the school for everyone. Many students believe that classes at JHU are just as hard as Ivy League schools, but they complain that Hopkins professors grade much harder. Many students wish that Hopkins offered grade inflation, as other top schools do, since even people who work hard sometimes end up with low grades. This influences some students to put studying above any social activity, in the hopes of being one of the few people in a class to receive an “A.” Hopkins offers a variety of social programming, but no one forces students to participate, and there’s no one holding your hand and leading you to fun activities. Even though students complain, most say that they’ve enjoyed being challenged by their experiences at Hopkins.

Hopkins presents a well-rounded experience for most students, but not every student takes advantage of the academic, social, and extracurricular opportunities. Some students wish that Hopkins encouraged students to get involved in all aspects of University life, but once you realize that it doesn’t, you can make your own choices about how you want to spend your time. The school’s academic reputation and its state-of-the-art facilities are strong points at Hopkins. Campus housing and food have been improved considerably in recent years with new constructions popping up.
