The campus shuttle and public transportation (the Rapid and the RTA) are the most popular ways to get around. Taxis are not used very often, and John Carroll does not yet offer Zipcars (although the idea has been brought up). Most students think the campus shuttle is convenient and that cars aren't necessary on campus, as students usually walk or take the bus/shuttle to get around; however, cars are nice for venturing outside the bus line. Students do bring cars to campus, but underclassmen must park their cars off campus and take the shuttle to retrieve them. However, there are plans for a parking garage on campus. All in all, it's fairly easy to get around town, whether you have a car or not.
John Carroll, located in a nice Cleveland suburb, has some great areas to grab a bite or to have some fun. Although there are some places around campus you can walk to, other places you need a ride to get there. The parking and campus shuttle systems have been updated in recent years and are still being improved. During the week, the shuttle generally only runs to the parking lots where cars are kept. One parking location is centered around a plaza with a Target, Payless Shoe Store, and multiple restaurants. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the shuttle runs a regular loop to several different locations, including Beachwood Place Mall and Legacy Village, two wonderful shopping areas. The Rapid and the RTA, the bus and train systems, are easy to get to and not too difficult to figure out. Either will take you into downtown Cleveland—just be sure to take a friend!
