Overall, students at John Carroll believe that the campus is very aesthetically pleasing. The architecture is beautiful, and it is a great part of the campus. Also, although the University has some great buildings (such as the Dolan Science Center), some residence halls, as well as the student center, should be renovated. The residence halls are being updated every year, but the progression is rather slow, and the changes aren't very drastic. And while the student center is great, it isn't the center of all campus activities as it could and should be.

Despite some need for renovations, overall the facilities on campus are well maintained and kept clean and up-to-date. The latest renovation was the construction of the Dolan Science Center. Soon, the Bohannon Center will be knocked down, and plans for a parking garage are in the works. The library has had some recent renovations, but it could definitely be updated more—although it is a great, spacious space in which to study. Finally, while John Carroll is a small school, you can almost always find something to do on campus. There is always something going on, and the best part is that everything is less than a 10-minute walk across campus.

"Green" Initiatives
John Carroll is currently improving its "green" initiatives through renovations like turning a parking lot into a green space. Most students feel like the school can do more, and in response, the school is working very hard to improve the recycling around school.
School Slang
  • Dirty Murph: This term refers to the residence hall Murphy. Murphy is a fun dorm, but doesn't always smell quite right.
  • Prospies: This stands for "prospective" students. Every time students see a large group on a tour, they refer to the group of prospective students as "prospies."
  • Christmas at Carroll: Around the holidays, there are always many events to attend. There are "Christmas Carrolls" being sung, cookie decorating, and so much more. It gets better every year.
  • Greek Week: This is a whole week of activities where Greek life on campus faces off in various competitions.
  • Homecoming Week: The week of Homecoming is full of crazy events. John Carroll has an amazing street fair, a football game, and always food and free prizes. There are events held throughout the entire week, such as student Jeopardy, and each year they come up with something new!
  • Winter Formal: At the start of winter, the Student Union Programming Board (SUPB) hosts a Winter Formal that is held off campus. Dinner and a dance are provided. It's usually a lot of fun, and although not as packed as Homecoming, turnout is relatively good.
Urban Legends
  • John Carroll supposedly has underground tunnels that connect multiple buildings. They are service tunnels that possibly connect the Administration Building to the residence hall Bernet Hall and possibly other buildings.
  • The Dolan Science Center has parking underground, but not many people know about it.
  • The ghost of Hamlin!
Favorite Things To Do

Clubs and Organizations on Campus
At John Carroll, there is always something to do. There are more clubs than you could imagine at such a small school, and students love staying involved in as many activities as possible. John Carroll has clubs and organizations that deal with campus ministry, service, sports, art, music, dancing, politics, student government, cultures, and event planning (just to name a few). There aren't really one or two clubs that are more popular than others, but students make sure to get involved in something that really interests them. Also, John Carroll really encourages students to start their own organizations. There is a process to go through, but it is really very easy to start a club on campus.
