The college atmosphere provides a growing experience for each student to acknowledge that he or she is an adult. Students tend to find holes where they may be able to break a few rules, but there are consequences if caught. Jackson State is not at its full potential of strictness because of the open campus title.

A majority of the campus strictness comes from visitation. Visitation takes place in every dormitory, and each dormitory has its own rules and regulations. Each student is required to attend a workshop to be informed about and what their visitation rights are and how not to lose them. Students can lose their visitation rights if any rule is broken.
