Off-Campus Housing: I don't live off-campus but I've heard that it is cheaper and makes it easier to lower costs since they are so high nowadays.

Diversity: The diversity on the campus is not very much but I do not believe its the college's wrongdoing or mistake but I think the area may put people off because of the cold and the mountain area the college is in. So far the college has been great especially since I am able to find connections with people who are like me but also people with people who are completely opposite of me and my background. The college is also very accepting and supports one another in ways that would amaze you whether it may be religion, political beliefs, ethnic/racial diversity and sexual orientation and with these topics, I know a lot of people struggle with them whether it may be at home or to themselves

Scholarships: Although I would have liked to receive more financial aid, I am happy with the merit scholarships I have received from the school itself.

Administration: The school overall has average strictness

Off-Campus Dining: While a lot of restaurants in Ithaca can be pricy, there are many that are affordable for the average college student. Not only that, but there are endless options to choose from! Some of my favorites include The Ithaca Bakey, Collegetown Bagels (CTB), Moosewood, Ale House, Taste of Thai, and Simeon's. The TCAT bus system makes it easy to travel to off-campus and experience the food for those who don't own cars.

Athletics: I constantly see posts on Twitter, newspaper articles, etc. about the many Varsity teams winning at competitions. I am a student-athlete myself, on the Women's Swim team, and we have been undefeated so far this season.

Local Area: There's plenty to do around campus and off campus when the weather is a lot nicer, like Apple Fest, Porch Fest, etc. As for shops downtown, there aren't a whole lot except for a lot of smoke shops. The restaurants and cafes however, are my favorites. I always try to take a trip down town to eat. Safety is top notch. There's blue lights all over campus in case you start to feel scared and help will come right away. I've never had to use the blue lights though as long as I'm with friends, and I feel safe walking around downtown at night. Everyone is super nice to students and get involved with the community.

Weather: The campus is absolutely beautiful during the summer, spring, and beginning of fall. I love walking around and to downtown. However, winters are brutal. It gets below freezing and there's snow all the time. As long as you're prepared, it's bearable.

Athletics: A lot of people do sports at the college, but as for attending events and what not, people only attend the like the big games that the campus holds. As for the facilities, I think the gyms are one of the best. The A&E Center is amazing inside, and it's great to see sporting events.

Parking: I don't really know how to answer these questions since I don't own a car as a freshmen, even though they do allow freshmen to own cars. However, they raise the price for on campus parking for freshmen to just kind of persuade to now own a car. The local bus and taxi's are pretty convenient for travelling, and are sometimes a couple minutes late depending on what day it is. And on the plus, when the weather is warmer, I can just walk maybe 10 minutes to down town.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: The bus isn't always on time or dependable. There are different points on campus where you can get dropped off or picked. It does make a lot of stops and there are different lines but that is also why it is a bit slow. The cost is $1.50 but I think doubles if you are going into Zone 2, which is a long distance away.

Weather: It's my first year here so I don't really have a feel for the weather. I can tell you one thing,

Local Area: I don't feel like I would live here after graduation because I feel like I would be reliving my college years. Ithaca is a college town. Like seriously, it's swarmed with IC and Cornell students.

Ithaca is known for its gorges hence the famous "Ithaca is Gorges" pun. There is a variety of restaurants in the Commons. The Commons are like Ithaca's downtown area, at least in the IC side. There is a mall best accessible by car because it takes forever to get there by bus. The best pizza is from Sammy's. You can order late-night cookies from Insomnia Cookies.

Everyone's really chill and down to earth and you can always find something to do.

Administration: Alot of students get away with drinking because you don't have to sign in or out of your building or the college. Students go to parties and though they do get busted nothing really happens unless you're caught with a drink in your hand or in a really bad state. You can get caught in your building if your RA sees anything or if you're making too much noise in your dorm. We have quiet hours and they are strictly enforced. From stories I've heard I think the possession of drugs is taken more serious than alcohol.

Diversity: The LGBTQ community is accepted here. There are a lot of students with wealthy background as well as those with a low income background. Racial diversity is few, the majority of students are Caucasians. However, this year we are the most diverse class therefore I can see the college making an effort to gain diversity on campus.

Technology: Printing is free, at least this year and in the past it has been free. There are several computer labs in the library and in almost all the other buildings. There is WiFi on campus and though I've heard some students complain I've had a positive experience with it. You don't NEED a personal computer for a class unless your course requires a Mac or a certain app. In other words, unless you're in a major that requires it of you, you can get by using library computers or a computer lab unless you WANT to.

Athletics: Ithaca is a devision 3 school so sport are not a huge part of our school although we have almost every sport out there. Not to mention we are one of the best D3 schools in the country. Most people join clubs such as dance or club sports. Yoga and Zumba classes are also available. We offer a lot of fitness classes because that is something student here value most. School spirit during big games such as our annual Cortica game is huge. This is something that almost everyone attends.

Campus Quality: We have an amazing Athletics center that was just build. All facilities are brand new including our indoor track and olympic size swimming pool. Apart from that we have an awesome gym with two basketball courts, a training room with new weights and exercise equipment and new work out facilities. There are also open yoga rooms and mats that are multipurpose.

Campus Quality: Everyone is extremely nice here. Social life is great there are always fun things to do on and off campus. There are tons of clubs and activities to join along with open screenings and activities open to everyone. We also are located in a beyond gorgeous area. There is so much nature around us and gorges to swim in and even jump off for some spring, summer, or even fall fun.

Majors: I am in the business program and it is wonderful, there is so much for you to do and accomplish including being apart of associations and clubs. The networking opportunities are the best here. Internships are their #1 priority. Work load can be a lot but it's fun and exciting especially with the amazing facilities the business school provides us like our stock exchange room.

4 College Freshman

Majors: I have never had an internship because I am only a freshman, but from what I have witnessed and heard from my friends it is very easy to get an internship, especially if you attend the networking opportunities, are a hard worker, and contribute your time to clubs, associations, and volunteer opportunities.

Administration: Noise violations are pretty big in our dorms. After quiet hours it is easy to get in trouble or a warning. With drugs and alcohol our school is more on the lenient side, how ever if you are naive enough to get caught there will be a warning or punishment.

4 College Freshman

Technology: Ithaca College tries very hard to have up to date software and fix an sort of technology problem you may have. All of the schools have up to date technology, for instance the Business school has a stock exchange room that is precisely up to date with Wall Street. Wireless access is almost everywhere around campus and in your dorm it is easy to connect your phone and laptop to your own FREE wireless internet.

Diversity: The amount of diversity is very strong here. There are people of all different ethnicities, sexualities, political and religious beliefs and from all different countries. There are international clubs, lesbian and gay alliances, and so much more for everyone out there.

Overall Experience: Ithaca is a great college. The facilities are amazing and new. We are a GREEN school! the Music and Communication schools are one of the absolute best. The Business school has amazing networking opportunities and clubs. The atmosphere is safe and very friendly. You do not feel left out what so ever. there are an unlimited amount of activities and clubs to join, plus you can start your own club. Ithaca is very close with its alum so such as the CEO of Disney who comes and visits every year and has even recruited students. You cannot get bored here.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

When students are asked to evaluate their overall experience at IC, they often look at the lessons they learned both inside and outside of the classroom. Students who go beyond the social aspect of college and get involved end up both gaining the most experience and having the most fun. Many students love IC because of its size. Sometimes, it’s hard to walk anywhere on campus without bumping into someone you know. With such dreadfully cold winters, the academic programs and well-organized student groups are the main reasons students come back every year. Also, the great size allows students to connect with other students in their majors and their professors/advisers, as well.

Like many things in life, students’ experiences with IC are simply what they make of them. If you sit in your dorm room for four years, you will be miserable. If you experience the life Ithaca has to offer and go outside of your comfort zone, you most likely won’t regret your decision to attend IC. The school’s high retention rate proves this. IC offers a great mix of academics and everything else college life should offer—friends, fun, professional opportunities, active campus life, and a time to learn and grow.
