4 College Freshman

Athletics: Many students are involved in either varsity or club sports here, and though the school spirit during most of the year could use a boost, the Cortaca football game always brings everybody out.

Local Area: Ithaca has a ton of awesome places to shop and eat, whether down in the Commons or in Collegetown. Plus the town is spotted with beautiful gorges, some you can even swim in.

College Freshman

Greek Life: We do not have Greek life on our campus, however, it is possible for our students to join fraternities and sororities at Cornell. That's where our students go for frat parties.

5 College Junior

Local Area: My favorite little city in America.

4 College Junior

Campus Food: Much better than schools that I have visited.

College Junior

Greek Life: There is no Greek Life.

Athletics: A lot of students are a part of athletics and it is definitely important, but it is not the most important aspect of the school.

Scholarships: Ithaca is a very expensive school, and though the school gives money for scholarships, I think that the amount offered does not relate correctly to the price of an education. I greatly appreciate the money that I received, I wouldn't be able to attend the school without it, but I believe that Ithaca should offer more scholarships.

Off-Campus Dining: Ithaca is known for it's amazing restaurants and beer. No matter where you go out to eat on a friday night when your parent's come to visit it will most likely be amazing. With so many blending cultures here you are bound to find a variety of cuisines from very talented chefs. You can't go wrong in Ithaca when it comes to dining out.

Guys & Girls: I think everyone is awesome! Especially if you're involved with Athletics. I play volleyball and I have made a lot of friends through that connection to volleyball and the athletics program as a whole. A lot of us are friends and support one another at games and such. Overall I think the students that attend Ithaca are pretty attractive and there is definitely a certain style.. LL bean boots, flannels, leggings, and a north face vest is probably one of the most sported outfits here. I'm not complaining though because a lot of what is considered cute and fashionable is also very comfortable.

Administration: Honestly, I have not had any issues with administration at school. Everyone is looking to help you and address any issues if you have them. Not only do they listen, but they also actively try to make a change that will benefit you and hopefully fix your problem. In regards to alcohol they are most concerned about the safety of students, than the punishment, which I think is an important thing at a College where drinking is almost inevitable.

Health & Safety: I always feel safe at Ithaca, wether it be noon or 3 o'clock in the morning I don't feel threatened. The campus police do a good job of making sure students are safe while still letting them have fun.

Overall Experience: It was definitely stressful. I also had to go through the recruiting process for volleyball so that added an extra component to the college search. Not only was I just trying to find a school that would fit me, I was also trying to find a school where I could play volleyball at. This meant I probably had to search a little deeper than the big name brand universities. Not saying I'm bad at volleyball, but to play at the level you most definitely have to be at the top of the game nationally in high school. This added pressure led to a lot of extra hours of researching schools as well as arranging meetings and visits with coaches. A positive to recruiting however, was that I was exposed to a lot of different schools and got to go visit a lot of different campuses. This helped me understand what kind of school and atmosphere I wanted to be in for the next four years of my life.

Local Area: I absolutely love Ithaca and the surrounding city. The atmosphere is almost indescribable. Cornell is right across the city so there are plenty of college students around when class is in session. Ithaca is absolutely beautiful and known for it's scenery. I was lucky enough to have my freshman room on the 8th floor of the East Tower with a lake side view. With giant windows that span one of the walls of our room, it's an amazing view to wake up to every morning. Overall, Ithaca has it's unique culture with a lot of artisans and farmers who come into the city from the surrounding farms. It's a great big melting pot of interesting people and stories from warm smiles.

Scholarships: It really wasn't that hard to go through the process of financial aid, however I did not receive much from the school at all. I got a single scholarship for my academic achievements in high school, but I did not receive nearly enough to come close to covering the costs of the school. As a consequence I had to take out student loans and my parents have contributed as well.

College Freshman

Greek Life: We do not have greek life at Ithaca

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Its a typical living situation for a freshman, but I really like it because it gives that real college experience. With so many first years in one space you're bound to make friends and have a good time.

5 College Freshman

Majors: The Park school is rated one of the best for communications

Off-Campus Housing: Don't know mush about it yet

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: If you want to party you can, if not you don't

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: The dinning is fine, lots to choose from

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: Never did any research on Greek life, don't know mush about it

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Rooms are a little small

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: Office staff is very helpful and knowledgeable

5 College Freshman

Academics: Some of the classes are very hard, but it is definitely worth it. The professors are always willing to sit down with you and talk about anything. I feel like I can have pretty open conversations with most of my professors. The workload definitely depends on what class you are in. Some classes won't have a whole lot and then there are some where you are over worked.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

When students are asked to evaluate their overall experience at IC, they often look at the lessons they learned both inside and outside of the classroom. Students who go beyond the social aspect of college and get involved end up both gaining the most experience and having the most fun. Many students love IC because of its size. Sometimes, it’s hard to walk anywhere on campus without bumping into someone you know. With such dreadfully cold winters, the academic programs and well-organized student groups are the main reasons students come back every year. Also, the great size allows students to connect with other students in their majors and their professors/advisers, as well.

Like many things in life, students’ experiences with IC are simply what they make of them. If you sit in your dorm room for four years, you will be miserable. If you experience the life Ithaca has to offer and go outside of your comfort zone, you most likely won’t regret your decision to attend IC. The school’s high retention rate proves this. IC offers a great mix of academics and everything else college life should offer—friends, fun, professional opportunities, active campus life, and a time to learn and grow.
