4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I really liked almost all of my professors! They are all extremely encouraging and open minded. Much of the in class work is discussion with peers moderated by the professors. The extremely progressive campus makes discussions like this very open and inviting, especially around sensitive topics that wouldnt be discussed at more conservative colleges.

Overall Experience: It depends on what major youre going for, but if youre going for anything in the Park School of Communications, the Musical Theatre Program, or the Physical Therapy Program, youre degree will be pretty valuable.

Health & Safety: The campus is well lit at night and there are blue lights everywhere in case of emergency. Everyone goes through sexual assault prevention classes at orientation, and because the campus is so progressive, the attitudes towards any type of sexual misdemeanor are extremely negative, which helps keep things like that to a minimum.

Campus Housing: The price you pay for the dorms is not justified. They are extremely simple average sized rooms with no air-conditioning. Restrooms are kept clean, but they are not very nice at all. Compared to some of the dorm rooms Ive seen at other colleges, these are extremely sub-par. If you want to live somewhere half decent, pay the extra money to get into Emerson Suites or tough it out the first year and try to get an apartment as a sophomore.

Greek Life: If youre looking for Greek life, Ithaca is not for you. We have no school affiliated frats or sororities, the only ones we have are independent and no one really knows about them unless they are in it.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: We have one of the most expensive athletics and events center in the United States, however, since our school is only division three, most people who attend the school are only interested in sports as a hobby.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Everyone at this school is very friendly, and extremely open minded. You are free to be yourself around just about anyone!

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Overall I love my experience with Ithaca so far

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: It's very important to me to earn my degree

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I feel safe and confident on campus

3 College Freshman

Athletics: Not much of a sports person

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I have enjoyed the whole process of applying for and acclimation

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: Personally, I wish that more people attended varsity athletics. We have so many passionate people at Ithaca and we should all get together and support the sports teams more often. It would be beneficial for the teams knowing they have support, and fun as a community for fan support and school spirit!!! Intramural clubs are not that big and are often a joke, or are taken too seriously for people who want to do them, as the people who don't make varsity often do the clubs.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Ithaca has so much to offer, from the school itself to the community and town of Ithaca itself. Academics, groups, the social life, etc etc, its all wonderful. And the town has so many things to do, various small nichey stores, the gorges and many trails to blaze, lake cayuga, and the food of course!!!!

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Most of the professors are passionate about what they teach. There are a wide variety of classes to take. There are a lot of clubs and people are usually inviting and friendly. The negatives are that some classes have teachers that are not that good at teaching. The core curriculum is messed up. Picking classes and getting the ones you need can be stressful.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: The have a strong alumni network for communications, one professor e-mails you lots of internship opportunities. You get to take lots of classes that help you with communications marketing internships and jobs.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: A lot of people don't know where to go for sexual assault and I feel as though public safety would take a long time to solve the issue.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: I like the variety of options, they have apartment style, suite style, and dorm apartments. The housing process could be easier though

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Haven't heard much about the Greek life but I know some throw parties with controversial themes that appropriate some people's cultures

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: The facilities for varsity sports is way better and bigger than the gym for average students. They should expand the gym that is not for varsity stuents

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: The experience has been really great I joined the breakdancing club which is amazing and everyone is willing to help. The only negatives are that some teachers are not very good at teaching. And the school needs to give more money to the mental health program

4 College Freshman

Athletics: People are incredibly supportive for the football team, but lackluster when it comes to other supports. The only game that I've attended where there was mediocre school spirit was the annual Cortaca football game, and even then people were barely cheering. Ithaca could do better with school spirit

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I love the school, the professors are really great and they always have office hours, so if you don't understand the material in class. If you go to their office hours you learn so much

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: Bars are great. Nightlife is great. Moonies is lit

5 College Freshman

Academics: One of the best in the nation for communciations

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

When students are asked to evaluate their overall experience at IC, they often look at the lessons they learned both inside and outside of the classroom. Students who go beyond the social aspect of college and get involved end up both gaining the most experience and having the most fun. Many students love IC because of its size. Sometimes, it’s hard to walk anywhere on campus without bumping into someone you know. With such dreadfully cold winters, the academic programs and well-organized student groups are the main reasons students come back every year. Also, the great size allows students to connect with other students in their majors and their professors/advisers, as well.

Like many things in life, students’ experiences with IC are simply what they make of them. If you sit in your dorm room for four years, you will be miserable. If you experience the life Ithaca has to offer and go outside of your comfort zone, you most likely won’t regret your decision to attend IC. The school’s high retention rate proves this. IC offers a great mix of academics and everything else college life should offer—friends, fun, professional opportunities, active campus life, and a time to learn and grow.
