3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Depends on where you are living and housing options are very limited for sophomores, juniors and seniors.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: There are some nice houses and apartments in Ithaca. The town is mostly populated by Ithaca and Cornell students so landlords are very polite and lenient regarding the residents, Ithaca is a very safe place to live. The off side is the college makes it difficult to live off campus unless there are a lot of students in a given year. cost is also cheap. the houses are close to campus so for the most part one could simply walk or take a bus to school, though driving is also relatively easy.

Off-Campus Dining: There are so many restaurants in Ithaca, and they are some of the best in the world. I have never eaten at the same place more than twice, and have never had any bad food. it is all so good. Chili fest, apple fest, and other festivals offer a great way to try out all the food.

Administration: Ithaca is the kind of school where no one really minds what you do, so long as it does not bother RAs, Campus Police, or other students. However in the odd chance that Campus Police does have an issue with you, they are very strict and often times are very aggressive. In my opinion they also do not respect the rights of students in certain situations.

Scholarships: Many students don't apply for financial aid. I NEEDED it, and when explaining my situation the financial aid helped me and gave me as much money as I needed. It was very comforting and helpful, however the school is very expensive and though I have a lot of student aid, it is still difficult to afford. Work on the financial aid ahead of time, the school will help the best they can.

Party Scene: There is a party every night from Thursday to Saturday. what it comes down to is how outgoing you are. Many people go to the same places for parties, and the bar scene is awesome. Greek life is returning and that being said there are a lot more parties. The parties are usually safe as the residents in Ithaca are all very nice and fun.

Campus Food: There are three dinning halls, campus center being the worst. Towers offers the best lunch, and terraces the best dinner. Towers also has late night dinning which is very convenient, and usually appetizing. there is a huge variety of food and the service is nice. Having a kitchen is useful for treating yourself to a home cooked meal ones in a while, and the town is not far from campus either. Bonus Bucks are great too because the food is not bad and there is an even wider selection.

Campus Housing: The dorms are all relatively close to the classrooms. There is a lot of walking between buildings and the walk may be cold in the winter. The buildings are connected so the cold is avoidable. The upper and lower quads are very close to the center of campus. Garden apartments and terraces are nice, but are further from campus. Circle apartments are the nicest, however they are the furthest from campus. The dorms are all very clean and each has a very positive social atmosphere. The cost for room and board is not as expensive as other schools, but definitely not cheap. The housing lottery is fair, but it works to your advantage to have roommates ahead of time.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

When students are asked to evaluate their overall experience at IC, they often look at the lessons they learned both inside and outside of the classroom. Students who go beyond the social aspect of college and get involved end up both gaining the most experience and having the most fun. Many students love IC because of its size. Sometimes, it’s hard to walk anywhere on campus without bumping into someone you know. With such dreadfully cold winters, the academic programs and well-organized student groups are the main reasons students come back every year. Also, the great size allows students to connect with other students in their majors and their professors/advisers, as well.

Like many things in life, students’ experiences with IC are simply what they make of them. If you sit in your dorm room for four years, you will be miserable. If you experience the life Ithaca has to offer and go outside of your comfort zone, you most likely won’t regret your decision to attend IC. The school’s high retention rate proves this. IC offers a great mix of academics and everything else college life should offer—friends, fun, professional opportunities, active campus life, and a time to learn and grow.
