Administration: Attendance in classes is incredibly important - I have one class where if you miss more than 2 classes, it's 10% off your grade. They take that really seriously. Campus safety is pretty lenient with alcohol if they see you drinking it, if you just pour it out and don't make a scene or be aggressive and it's your first strike they'll let you go. Just don't be obnoxious about it in dorms and your RA won't have to report you. Weed is extremely popular and they're pretty strict with that but that doesn't stop people from smoking it every day.

Off-Campus Housing: I'm a freshman and I don't know any people who live off-campus

Athletics: Personally, I don't care about the football team or other athletics. But i do know that the school spirit here sucks because we're always overshadowed and put down by Cornell

Health & Safety: they have these emergency posts with a blue light on them around campus that you press a button if you're in trouble and campus security comes. I see the campus police around sometimes, but their presence isn't excessive. I walk back to the dorm alone from the library at 3 am frequently and I feel really safe, just because the crime rate is so low and the odds of being "attacked" or "assaulted" seem microscopic basically.

Greek Life: It's technically not allowed but there are "underground" sororities and fraternities but they're really lame and have a bad reputation for having ugly weird people

2 College Sophomore

Campus Food: all the food is the same. no flavor

3 College Senior

Scholarships: be persistent with calling the financial aid office

5 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: lots of different places and cuisines to choose from, all close and conveniently located

4 College Junior

Local Area: Ithaca is great, the town is awesome and everyone is really chill and hippy-like. Cornell is literally across the hill and it's one big college town.

Administration: They're not too strict at all, as long as you're smart and don't do anything really stupid, you'll get along just fine.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: I am a girl and I feel just as safe at midnight as I do at noon. My friends and I have never had a problem on campus and have never felt in danger.

Party Scene: It's mostly friends who party together -- you have to know someone to get in and really have fun. If you want a big party and you're a girl, go to Cornell

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: There are sooooo many different places to eat in Ithaca! It's great -- I love CTB and Viva.

3 College Junior

Scholarships: Email people and ask, sometimes that's all it takes

4 College Senior

Campus Housing: Had a huge room freshman year and everything is kept really clean

3 College Senior

Diversity: The college is currently working towards a more diverse student body

4 College Senior

Campus Food: I had a great experience eating on campus. Plenty of dining halls to choose from.

2 College Sophomore

Diversity: There is little to no diversity on campus. With the diversity that Ithaca College does have, there is always acceptance

Campus Quality: The library is one of my favorite spots to study at. There are three floors and the higher you go, the quieter the spots are.

2 College Sophomore

Athletics: Sports are definitely not a large part of campus life. The only sporting events attending are the larger ones, like that of homecoming and the Cortaca Jug.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: For Ithaca College's Physical Therapy program, you must apply early decision because the program fills up quickly. Once enrolled, student must maintain a C- or higher in every class and preferably a 3.0 CGPA.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: Only being a rising sophomore, I personally have not had an internship just yet but I do plan on applying for internships soon. My hometown has many private physical therapy office in which I can receive information and possibly hold an internship at.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: The class sizes are large enough for interesting group discussion and small enough for one-on-one with the professors and other students when needed.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Ithaca College's Office of Career Services is always informing it's students of new opportunities through the school whether the student is a freshman or graduating, interships and help with careers are always available.

3 College Sophomore

Administration: Visitation in the dormitories is more laid back than other school taking into account that Ithaca College is much smaller than other school and does not circulate many visitors at once.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

When students are asked to evaluate their overall experience at IC, they often look at the lessons they learned both inside and outside of the classroom. Students who go beyond the social aspect of college and get involved end up both gaining the most experience and having the most fun. Many students love IC because of its size. Sometimes, it’s hard to walk anywhere on campus without bumping into someone you know. With such dreadfully cold winters, the academic programs and well-organized student groups are the main reasons students come back every year. Also, the great size allows students to connect with other students in their majors and their professors/advisers, as well.

Like many things in life, students’ experiences with IC are simply what they make of them. If you sit in your dorm room for four years, you will be miserable. If you experience the life Ithaca has to offer and go outside of your comfort zone, you most likely won’t regret your decision to attend IC. The school’s high retention rate proves this. IC offers a great mix of academics and everything else college life should offer—friends, fun, professional opportunities, active campus life, and a time to learn and grow.
